The Dandelion Field
The night was still and the breeze was soft. They held hands as they lay on a soft dandelion field. The coarse grass tickled their feet. Their young hearts had known no hate nor their minds any greed. Their eyes held only innocent wonderment captive as they gazed towards the stars. Stars. So far and yet as close as her next breath. She lifted her arm but it fell short of the distance. The stars blinked peacefully back at them. He looked at her and smiled. Her eyes smiled back sadly. The sweet scent of childish love and innocence hung in the air. The dandelions stirred in their slumber and opened their sleepy eyes to this rare call. They shivered and shifted. Her eyes widened and her hand tightened around his. He held back reassuringly. To the stars... the ground seemed to whisper as they left it. With a bed of white dandelions beneath, they were lifted up into the cobalt twilit sky. Higher and higher. Each puff of the wind cradled them like a river bed and the clouds greeted them like old friends. Her heart beat in unision with his as the dandelions lifted them closer to the stars...

Something warm and wet touched her face. She woke up to a crying sky. The eyes which opened now had seen the world and the hate it harbours. They were not the same pools of innocence which had once wished to touch the stars. He was someplace far far away now. Someplace unknown to her. But she liked to imagine him still laughing in the dandelion field ...his eyes soft with adoration, holding out his hand for her to take. But the dandelion field was not here now and nor was he. Whether her vision was blurred with the rain or her own tears she could not tell. But she could still make out a familiar white fluffy shape flying over to greet her. The dandelion circled around her waist twice and then swayed at the tip of her nose for sometime before being swept away by the storm. It took some weight off her chest with it, she realised with a smile.
Go sweet dandelion. Fly free, fly true. Find him and remind his heart of the girl he once kissed in the silence of a dandelion field, while the stars stood witness.
