The Perfect Song
I tried to find the perfect song
Sung for loves long gone
But none did speak,
Of the way his eyes lit,
When he saw me standing there
After two long years.
I tried to discover the perfect melody
Like the one I heard
After all those years,
Of his laughter in my ears.
So I dug a little deeper
For words for the warmth in my chest
When I hear his laughter
For the way,
Of all the places,
He is my home.
I did try to write the perfect lyrics
Of how his voice is music;
And whenever the world deafens me,
He'd be there to cover my ears;
To encase my hands with his own
When the nights are cold.
I know the days are longer
And the nights are darker
But I guess what they say is true:
Distance makes the heart grow fonder
(But it does at times make me wonder,
Do you love me;
As I love you?)
But of all the things we've battled through,
We'll survive this too .
I've hurt him so terribly
Yet he still finds a way to love me
And just know that when you hurt,
I'm hurting too;
And if you ever lose your path,
I'll follow you into the dark.
Now I believe there might be a few,
That describe the peace I feel
When I'm lying next to you;
Or the crinkles by your eyes,
That light up my world when you smile.
I wish I could find the words I can't say
For the pain when you're not there;
Or how it's a couple degrees colder
When I don't have your arms around as my sweater:
Or how my heart skips a beat
Every time that you look at me.
So here is all of me,
That is all I can give;
And here is my heart,
Please don't drop it:
Not because it's mine,
But because you are in it.
And I'll always cherish the feeling
Of your lips against mine;
But I'm always afraid to lose it
In case we run out of time.
If by some cruel twist of fate
The stars don't align,
Just know I'll always love you
And to the heavens I'll forever beg,
Please let him be mine.
Sometimes I fear
I won't just break apart and fall;
But I know we've survived all these years,
It's you and I, after all.
And the strength that carried us through,
Will take us the rest of the way too.
Because I've found my way in the light of your eyes
Those almost onyx orbs,
With rays of golden sunlight.
I'll treasure the secret of you and I
And the worlds to be
When we would meet again
And finally be free.
Until then I'll collect the pieces
Of memories that lie on my floor;
And wait with tears in my eyes,
For you, standing at my door.
So should you venture to find someone like him
Who completes me as I complete him;
You will be forever grateful to the stars
As I am,
For I hold one in my arms.
And so,
I did try to find,
The perfect song for us,
And none that was ever sung fits;
But I then realized;
It was the one
The rhythm at which my heart beats.
For you.
