In Dark
When the world is swimming in dark
And the moon is tending broken hearts,
I'll tell you I'm fine;
And I'll be waltzing in its beam,
Drowning in cigarettes and wine
Let my fingers curl around the bottle's neck
As the smoke cloaks my wreck
As it ties a noose with whispers of forgotten love in my ear
And the red drips from my lips
Like a kiss of fear
I stutter, ask my mind why
It folds unto itself with a weary sigh
And tells me:
No one can see,
And it hurts to try.
I cried in words
I bled in poetry
But nothing was enough
To make you dream of me
A year ago
You were here
But the leaves don't rustle anymore
And the winds have stopped howling your name
The weary nightingales still sing
But they know too
How I screamed;
And you weren't even listening
I called, and called out
But nothing came out of my throat
And how could it,
When you had been strangling it for so long?
So I tried one last time,
Looked you in the eyes and said,
"The moon is beautiful tonight,
isn't it?"
You looked over and hmm'ed;
Never spared a glance either,
At my broken tomb
Only muttered:
"The stars have always been prettier."
So I spared myself,
Learnt to feel nothing;
But the waves keep coming,
And they don't stop coming.
