Title: Til Death Do Us Part
(y/n)'s POV
Cathy and I stood outside of The Ledbury, bearing the red "Closed" sign in the door. We got all dressed up and made reservations, only to be told as we walked there that it was closed today due to an emergency of some sort. The small velvet box in my blazer pocket was pressed against me, making me very conscious of it.
I'd had to lie and say it was a weird coin purse earlier when Cathy asked me about it. She definitely didn't believe me, and was still eying me and all, but whatever. I had a little secret to keep, after all.
"What about we grab some McDonald's to-go and find a cute picnic spot in the park?" She asked. I smiled, taking her hand in mine.
"Yeah, I wouldn't mind that. Happy anniversary, love-bug." I cooed, leading the way. She pressed a kiss to my cheek, likely leaving a berry colored stain, but it just made my smile grow wider. I was so in love with this girl, sometimes it still would hit me like a truck.
I never thought I'd be this glad to have left Henry at the altar, no matter how much I knew it had to be done. I was relieved, yes, to not spend a longer portion of my life lying. Everyone was angry for ages, but those that stuck around soon learned that I'm so authentically happy now. And of course, Henry eventually understood, and now is engaged to a lovely, very straight woman named Tina. I couldn't be happier for the pair.
I was lost in thought as we walked through the chilly wind of London to get McDonald's, but after a second I noticed my girlfriend shivering. She wore a dark purple dress with spaghetti straps, a plunging, lacy neckline, and a tight fitting bodice. To make matters worse, it was so short that it hardly reached a third of the way down her thigh.
Without a second thought I removed my blazer, shaking my head lovingly. Underneath a wore a black long-sleeved blouse, as well as skinny black slacks on bottom. I wrapped it around her, forgetting about the little box that laid inside the pocket.
She stuck her arms in the sleeves gratefully, looking over at me.
"Thanks, darling. You're the best." She said in a low, quiet tone. I grinned, both at just generally how cute she was and the nickname she always loved to call me. It was my favorite thing ever at this point. Well, in general she was my favorite. That's why there was a ring in my-
OH MY GOD, SHE HAD THE JACKET.
SHE HAD THE RING.
OH GOD OH NO.
She stuck her hands in the pockets, trying to warm them. I saw the moment she felt the little box, and pulled it out curiously. My face dropped, but hers lit up.
"Wait no!" I said, panic welling up in my veins.
"Is this an engagement ring?" She whispered, opening the box. The ring was gorgeous, I spent hours looking for it and hundreds on actually acquiring the perfect one.
I nodded, taking it from her softly and closing the box, pulling her by her elbow to a less crowded area. Since she already saw, I might as well give my speech in a less romantic area. I got down on one knee, smiling. I felt all my anxiety melt away as I saw her already tear-ridden face, her hand covering her mouth daintily.
"Well I guess theres no better time than now to do this, since you've already figured out what's going on. Catherine Parr, there hasn't been a day that's went by since we met that you didn't make me smile, and laugh, and feel safe. You're my favorite person, and I can't imagine giving you up for the world. And I promise that if you say yes, I won't leave you at the altar. So Cathy, will you marry me?" I asked. She nodded, laughing.
"Yes, yes I will! I love you so much, (y/n)!" She said, it was a mixture of a giggle and a sob. I pulled her into a hug, ignoring the cheering passerby.
"She said yes!" I called out joyously, earning a louder reaction from the London citizens that were out and about. I turned back to her, opening the small box and taking the ring out, slipping it onto her finger. She grabbed my face and pulled me into a loving kiss, and all I could register thinking was that I could used to the cold metal I felt on my cheek as she held me tenderly. I loved this. I loved her. I loved us.
There was never a better moment in my life than this here. She was the reason I felt complete. And I mentally made a decision, that for the rest of our lives I would show her just how much this moment meant to me.
Because ya know, til death do us part.
