Zoe Murphy- Sunflower (c)
Dear Evan Hansen One Shot
"Where did you put the tape measure?" You asked looking through the folder that had all the information for your project in it and should have had the tape measure in it, but it was missing.
"Check behind the pot," Zoe responded.
You looked behind the small plastic flowerpot to find the wrapped-up tape measure. It had come out of a dollar store sewing kit and the numbers were barely legible anymore, but it still did the job you needed. You handed the folder over to Zoe whom was sat on the edge of her bed. She dug through the paper to find the table that had only been filled in about halfway.
"What's the date?" She asked.
"Fourteenth."
She nodded her head and filled in the box before looking up at you for you to do your bit of work so she could finish filling in the table.
You rolled out the tape measure and held it up to the stem of the plant. Holding the end that once had 0 written on it to the soil, you straightened the thin fabric until you could find which number corresponded with the top of it.
"Eleven centimeters," you stated.
She wrote down the height before slotting the paper back into the folder. You rolled the tape measure back up so that it could join the rest of the project. Picking up the small watering can, you poured a few drops of water into the soil to help the growth of your plant.
"What is the point of this project?" Zoe questioned.
"Something about caring for something. Getting a little sunflower seed and showing it love and care and giving it everything that it needed until it grows big and strong and blossoms for the caregiver," you shrugged. "Or maybe I'm reading into it a bit too much and it's teaching us the basis of gardening."
"It's probably the latter," Zoe chuckled as you joined her on the edge of the bed.
For one of your classes you had been given the task as pairs to see who could get a sunflower to grow the tallest. Of course, you picked your best friend Zoe Murphy and it seemed as though you were doing well together even if you had both begun to question what the point of the project even was.
"Either way it seems to be growing pretty well."
With that the two of you talked for a while before moving onto other homework that needed your attention.
