Velma Kelly- Partners (c)

Chicago One Shot

After Velma had left prison, she instantly wanted to be back on stage, but there was one hitch in that plan, she had murdered her sister and fellow performer, so she needed replacing. You had met her unrelated to her performances and fell for her hard. You started dating and you felt like the luckiest person in the world, and when she asked you to join her on stage, it only felt even more special.

At first everything was perfect, she taught you the routines and you'd go on stage to a cheering crowd every night, but the happiness and bliss couldn't last forever. Quickly, she turned for a doting girlfriend, to a cold and harsh boss, training you within an inch of passing out. No matter how hard you tried, you were never good enough to be up on stage by the side of Velma Kelly and she made sure that you knew that. It hurt to hear her tear down everything that you worked so hard on.

No longer did she treat you like a girlfriend. You were an employee to her, and from how she acted, you were a nuisance as well. She made sure you were aware of how tedious teaching you was even though you couldn't see half of what she was trying to say was an issue in your rendition of the routine. You tried to keep a brave face as you knew how stressful it must be for her but after three hours of training one day, you finally snapped.

Velma told you off for spinning to slowly and you let yourself stop on the spot and turn to her with a loud.

"I'm sick huff of this," you shouted. "You're meant to be my girlfriend, not my boss. You are meant to love me; not critique everything I do."

"I am your girlfriend, but I am also your performance partner," she corrected.

You could feel tears of frustration welling up in your eyes.

"I never wanted that. I never wanted to be your performing monkey, I thought it would make you happy, but it just makes me miserable," you stated. "I want love, Velma. I want someone that I can melt around. I want someone who melts around me too. I don't want this standoffish, unromantic love that you're offing. I want more than that."

Velma looked taken aback by your outburst.

"I'm going home. I can't do this anymore."

You took your aching body and exited the stage, letting the silence from Velma be enough of an answer for you.
