Trina- Psychiatrist (c)
Falsettos One Shot
Working as a therapist was a hard job, especially when you fell in love with one of your clients. It was complex situation in itself let alone when you then considered whom the woman was and why she came to see you.
You had met Trina, through her husband Marvin. He had originally been your client, and still was and recommended that Trina speak with you to, to have someone to talk to about the breakdown of their marriage. She struggled to accept her husband having left her for another man and the fact that he wanted to keep a close family connection with her and her son. Of course, it was a far more complex situation than you could ever imagine but you were there to support her as an unbiased advisor and in seeing her regularly, you had become friends.
Every session you had she would speak of Marvin and Whizzer and how she felt about their relationship along with the struggles she had being a mother and what she thought of the situation influencing her son. There was a lot to discuss and she never strayed from such topics, so it shocked you when she arrived for a session and wanted to talk about something else.
"I feel incredibly stupid and damaged," she stated. "Marvin has ruined me for any man and that scares me as I don't think it bothers me anymore."
"What do you mean?"
"I feel as though my heart longs for someone it shouldn't. It made me sick to think of Marvin with another man, I never thought I would ever want another woman, but I think I do," she said, a pained expression on her face.
You offered her a gentle expression. Although it wasn't something people talked about often, Trina knew she could trust you with discussing her possible homosexuality as you spoke with Marvin about his and never judged him, not that she knew it was due to you being in the same boat.
"There isn't anything wrong with being in love with another woman Trina, love is a power no one can truly understand," you explained.
"But I'm in love with you."
Your heart skipped a beat, hearing words that you had wanted to hear for so long.
"I can no longer be your psychiatrist," you stated, closing your notebook.
"Please no," she begged. "I didn't mean to offend or upset you."
"Trina, do not mistake my words. It would be wrong of me to be the psychiatrist of the woman I am romantically involved with," you smiled fondly.
A grin curled onto her lips, worries flying to the wind, both of you appreciating the moment of happiness and peace.
