Katherine Plumber- Dinner (c)
Newsies One Shot
Normally it didn't take you very long to put your hair up but with the dread of leaving the house weighing upon you, you decided to make it take as much time as you possibly could in the hopes you'd not be forced to leave. It wasn't even like your girlfriend Katherine wanted to go out either; neither of you were fans of going to her father's home but sometimes you had to do things that you didn't want to and this was one of those times.
"Are you okay?" Katherine asked as she looked at your reflection in the mirror.
"You know I am not your fathers' biggest fan and I am certainly not looking forward to spending any time with him," you sighed. "I simply do not like spending time with your family at Christmas."
She offered you a gentle smile, knowing how you felt. Even though he was her father, she never enjoyed his company. He was a heartless, sexist man who cared little about his daughter's happiness, only caring about her if she could somehow offer him some form of gain in life. He had once had great plans to marry her off to a man of status to gain him more money and power but when Katherine had met you, a woman of little money or status, he lost all hopes. Even if neither of you liked her father, you knew that he could offer you both great opportunities in the future, whether he knew it or not, so it was for the best that you kept yourselves in his good books and attended when he beckoned.
"We will only be there for dinner. I doubt it shall last long and he does always get the grandest goose for Christmas dinner. His company may be foul, but the meal shall be splendid."
"I guess there are minimal positives to have Christmas dinner at your fathers house although as soon as he opens his mouth, I'm sure I shall change my mind about there being anything positive."
Katherine laughed, resting a gentle hand onto your shoulder.
"If we stay strong together, we shall survive," she smiled. "Once this is over, I doubt we shall need to see him for a few months as long as we appease him."
You let out a deep sigh, standing up from your seat. You held your hand out for Katherine to hold and she happily did.
"I guess we should head there and get it over and done with."
