Juliet Capulet- Feminist (c)
&Juliet One Shot
It was hard to not become best friends with Juliet. When you walked through the Verona streets with your nanny, you struggled to befriend the other girls your age, unable to accept your fate to marry the first man to consider you worth his time and be a happy wife and mother as you aged. You wanted adventure, you wanted excitement, you wanted something in life that could bring a smile to your face and offer your mind a challenge. Juliet saw life in a similar way to you. You were both happy to get messy and talk about the unfair society you grew in, aware of the disadvantages of being women before you were even grown into them.
As you aged you only shared more views, you were always happy to discuss feminism and a patriarchal society that you were to be oppressed under but together you felt like you could make a change for your own lives and womankind alike. Your parents had arranged you a marriage with a man from a nearby city, offering you a life of luxury in their eyes but a life of boredom in yours. Juliet had fallen victim to her heart though, she fell in love with Romeo Montague who was from a family that rivalled hers. You didn't really understand it, but she seemed happy and that was what mattered most to you, until she fell a bit too deep and faked her death, leading to his own death.
All though you desperately wanted to tell her that you were right, you felt like she suffered enough when she came to sit on your bed, holding her head in her hands, disappointed in her decisions that led her there.
"How can I call myself a feminist?" She huffed, annoyed at herself.
"Even feminists make terrible ideas."
"I am so passionate about women's freedom in a patriarchal society, but I threw it all away for Romeo," she frowned.
You shrugged your shoulders. "We all make terrible decisions and our hearts can lead us astray, but we live, and we learn. It doesn't matter how strong your feminist mind is, your heart can be far stronger even in something that isn't good for you in the end."
Juliet looked up at you, barely moving her face from her own hands.
"Do you think I'm an idiot?"
You shook your head. "I don't think you're an idiot, but your decisions were certainly idiotic."
