Connor Murphy- Emergency Ward (a)
Dear Evan Hansen One Shot
"Let me see him!" The constant beeps and screeches of hospital equipment fell silent as you barged past the nurse, the hundreds of other people in the emergency ward became nothing but blurs. Wires, monitors and clips clung onto Connor's pale and torn skin. Ragged and frayed the nurses had tore his clothes from his almost lifeless body leaving nothing but a sweat and blood-soaked shirt and jeans trapped underneath him.
"Connor, I got a call what happened?" The doctors tried to usher you away from him but nothing was going to stop you from seeing him, the doctors spoke to each other, hiding behind their clipboards, using language they knew you wouldn't understand almost as if they were trying to scare you, trying to make you worry.
"I..." Every syllable led to spluttering underneath his mask, he clutched onto his side just as a white-masked doctor tapped you on the shoulder, he stood in front of you as the staff worked to get him stable.
"Mr. Murphy has been in a very... unfortunate accident involving a collision with a car." You looked over his broad shoulders to see Connor just lying there as they poked and prodded at him his eyes rolling into his head.
"We are waiting for the scans to come back from the radiology department... I'm going to be honest with you..." You had no choice but to stand strong for Connor now as you had done in the time that you had known him. "We don't know if Connor will walk again."
It took everything within you to not just break down on the spot but what good would that do for him?
A solemn looking nurse signalled the doctor and he gestured you forward to speak to him, everybody else seemed to dissipate, giving the two of you some privacy
"Connor what's happened?"
"I'm sorry." He tried to raise his blood covered hand to your cheek, but he only managed to get it a few inches off of the bed before it fell, you grabbed onto it and he squeezed it so tightly.
"Come on man what are you sorry for, this isn't your fault."
"It... was." It only took those to words and he was breathless, you knew he mad more to say so you held he mask up to him, it wasn't like stubborn Connor to actually accept help but at this point he was desperate.
"It was my fault." Your heart sank and tears rolled down his face, smearing the blood that had splattered onto his cheek. "I did it on purpose."
