Six The Musical One Shot

Whilst you tried to do your duties as a lady's maid, you tried to do your best to keep your emotions in check and not allow them to get in the way. Catherine was a lovely woman to work for and she was far more like a dear friend of yours rather than an employer but you didn't see it as her place to need to console you or see you in a vulnerable emotional state.

You were planning to have a cry for a short while and then head off with a cheery disposition to take care of Catherine and make sure you could help her through her day as you were expected to. Your plan didn't go completely to plan as Catherine left her chambers before she would normally and caught you sat in one of the window seats, letting your sorrow take hold.

"Y/N, are you okay?" She asked rushing to your side.

You did your best to wipe away the tears and try to keep a smile on your face, but it wasn't so easy to be convincing with your emotions. Lies left your lips as you tried to tell her that you were fine, but it didn't take a genius to see the truth to your words.

"You know you can tell me if something is wrong," she said softly. "You are my closest confidante; I hope that you will be able to do the same for me."

It took you a moment to compose yourself before you could admit what was going on. "My husband left me. He found a woman younger, more beautiful and with a healthy dowry for their marriage. Clearly love is no longer necessary for a long living marriage that I thought it was."

Catherine rested a gentle hand onto your shoulder, offering you a sympathetic look. She had lost men who she thought she loved before, not in the same manner as yours, but she knew heartache and knew how debilitating it could feel.

"I'm sorry that he was such a fool. I wish I could make the heartache end, but time heals those wounds and you will have my support through this all," she smiled softly.

"Thank you for your kindness, milady," you said as you wiped away more of your tears.

She shook her head. "You do not need to thank me. You deserve all the love and kindness in the world, so do not let him convince you otherwise."
