Connor's POV
"Please Connor! It'll be fun!" Cynthia begged as she sat down at the dinner table.
"Why can't you take Zoe?" I asked as I stabbed my whatever-Cynthia-was-into-now lasagna.
"Can't. I'm sleeping over at Alana's." Zoe interrupted with a smirk.
"Fuck you." I spat. She waved her middle finger in my face before turning back to her food.
"Please just come with me Connor! We can bond! I can tell you some of my old ice skating stories." Cynthia pleaded. I glanced over at the empty place across from me where Larry would've sat.
"Get out of my house Larry!" I heard someone scream from downstairs. I looked up from my tumblr and walked over to my door. I gently pulled it open and peered outside.
"Cynthia please, just think for a moment! Do you really want to throw all that we have away for that fag?" Larry shouted. My heart stopped.
I know that he didn't mean Zoe.
She hadn't come out yet.
But neither had I.
"Get the fuck out! Never come back!" She yelled in his face as she pushed him towards the front door. There was an suitcase packed laying right next to it. When she finally got Larry outside, Cynthia threw the bag out onto the lawn.
"Fine. I'll go." I grumbled. Cynthia smiled and her eyes sparkled. Zoe stopped eating and looked over at me, her eyes wide. I shrugged and slouched in my chair.
I'm going to regret this, aren't I?
Evan's POV
"Hi honey! I'm so sorry I won't be able to make it. Naomi took off and I had to pick up her shift." Mom told me.
"I-It's alright." I sighed. This had happened so many times before that I was used to it by now.
"I love you sweetie! Have fun! Good Luck! Oh, and tell Jared I said hi! Bye honey!" She exclaimed before ending the call.
"So. She's not coming?" Jared asked from behind me. I shook my head and squeezed my eyes shut.
It still hurt when she couldn't show up.
A few tears slid down my cheeks as Jared patted my back.
"Look on the brightside! Maybe we can do something rebellious after the competition!" He announced, trying to cheer me up. I shrugged and wiped away my tears.
"I'm g-going to p-practice a little more." I told him as I sat down on the bench behind me and out my skates on.
Connor's POV
"Here we are!" Cynthia cheered as she pulled into an empty parking space. She parked the car and looked over at me.
"C'mon, let's go! Maybe we can catch some skaters practicing." She said as she pushed her car door open. I did the same and hopped out.
"Did you know I used to compete every weekend? My father never approved but my mother always encouraged me. She payed for the coaches and the costumes and drove me everywhere." She admitted as we crossed the lot that was starting to fill up.
"Wow." I mumbled. We walked the rest of the way in silence.
Evan's POV
I stared at the mirror.
I saw my whole body shaking and shivering with nerves.
Tears leaked out of the corners of my eyes.
I needed mom.
I needed Jared.
I needed someone.
Connor's POV
"Go to the bathroom first honey. You don't want to have to go in the middle of the competition!" Cynthia told me as she left me in the middle of the stadium. I saw her slip into the crowd and I scowled.
After a few minutes of asking for directions and scaring kids, I finally stumbled across a bathroom. I opened the door and saw someone standing right in front of the sinks.
It was a boy.
A hot boy.
The boy I've had a crush on for years.
His dirty blonde hair shone in the dim lights. I could see his crystal blue eyes that were sparkling with tears.
"Hey, are you okay?" I asked as I stepped towards him. The boy's head snapped up and he stepped back.
"N-N-No. I'm f-fine." He stammered before running out. His shoulder brushed mine on his way and my heart skipped a beat.
"What just happened." I whispered.
*Time skip brought to you by me having to go another three weeks until I'm told when my braces can come off*
"I'm so excited!" Cynthia squealed as we sat in our seats. I nodded and stared out at the rink. My mind started to wonder and I thought about him again.
Damn.
"Announcing Rich Goranski, number 1, performing to the song Burn."
The lights in the crowd dimmed and everyone's attention turned to the rink. A short guy with a red streak in his hair waddled out onto the ice and began his routine.
After a few people skated I eventually lost interest. To me, it was the same thing over and over. But when I looked over at Cynthia, she looked so happy.
"Announcing Evan Hansen, number 18, performing to the song The Death of a Bachelor."
I glanced back at the ice and my heart did a flip.
It was the guy from before.
Throughout his whole performance my eyes followed him. I felt a blush rise to my cheeks but I didn't stop watching.
Evan Hansen.
My crush.
Evan's POV
My heart was pounding as I stepped off of the ice.
I could not control my emotions because as soon as I sat down to take my skates off I was crying.
"Hey buddy. Whath up?" Rich questioned as he came up behind me.
"J-Just a little s-sad m-my mom couldn't be here. T-That's all." I confessed.
"Well, I know that the'th proud of you no matter what." Rich told me before walking away.
I took a few deeps breaths and wiped my eyes.
After this you can go do something rebellious. Or just read a really nice book. Or talk to a tree!
Just the thought of trees had me smiling again.
*time skip again because oof*
"Ready to go partayyyyyy?" Jared cheered.
"I-I think I'm j-just g-going to go home." I sighed as I picked up my duffel bag. I kept thinking back to when I saw The Connor Murphy in the bathroom.
My crush.
"Alright, but you're missing out on all the hot guys, girls, and everything in between." He teased before walking down the hallway. I watched him go and figeted with the strap of my bag.
Once he was gone I went the same way. I speed walked all through the stadium and peeked around corners, looking out for Connor.
"Ow." Someone whined as I ran into them.
"O-Oh Jesus F-Faist! I'm so s-sorry!" I exclaimed.
Of course.
It was Connor Murphy.
In all of his amazing, beautiful, majestic...
Shut up Evan!
"Its okay." He told me with a small smile. My heart melted and my cheeks burned.
"You did really good out there." Connor added as he started to fiddle with his hands. I gripped the hem of my shirt and stared at the ground.
"T-Thanks." I murmured.
"Fuck it! I'm just going to say it now!" He exclaimed. I jumped when he gently grabbed my hand and turned me to face him.
"Evan, I've had a crush on you since 8th grade. I was always too nervous to tell you how I felt because I knew you'd reject me. I mean, who wants to be with a fuck up like me? But seeing you in the bathroom and out there on the ice, I couldn't hold it in anymore." Connor confessed. Tears pricked my eyes and my heart pounded even faster.
"C-Connor I..."
"Its okay Evan. I always knew you would never feel the same way. I just needed to get it out." He sighed before turning on his heel.
I gripped the edge of his jacket and yanked him back towards me. My blush got even more intense.
"I l-love y-you you ferning i-idiot." I whispered before pressing his lips to mine.
I kissed Connor Murphy.
Connor Murphy kissed me back.
Fireworks went off in my body.
Spruce he's a good kisser.
