Chapter 13 - I'd Rather Be Me
- Chapter 13 - I'd Rather Be Me -
Ships: Spot x Race x Albert, Smalls x Sniper
Warnings: Talks of Bullying
Third Person POV
(A/N I do use the head cannon that Smalls is female, since she was mainly played by a female, and Race (in this, though people do head cannon him as Trans, from girl to boy) is male.)
Race and Smalls pushed past the Delanceys, somehow, since the Delancey brothers were a good bit bigger than them.
The two Newsies ran to the middle of the cafeteria and jumped on a table. They had had enough of the bullying, and they knew most people were getting bullied by the Delancey brothers.
Race: So your best friend screwed you over
Acted nice when she's not nice
Smalls: Well, I have some advice
'Cause it's happened to us...
She looks at Race, who was counting. He couldn't figure the actual number out, so she just said 'twice'
Race: Here's our secret strategy
It always works because
Smalls bitterly smiles at Oscar and Morris.
Smalls: The world doesn't end
It just feels like it does
Race: So raise your right finger
Race and Smalls raise theirs.
Race: And solemnly swear,
Race, Smalls: "Whatever they say about me
I don't care!"
Smalls: I won't twist in knots to join your game
Race rolls his eyes at past memories.
Race: I will say, "You make me mad."
Smalls: And if you treat me bad
I'll say,
The two Newsies point to Oscar and Morris.
Race, Smalls: "You're bad."
Race: And if we eat alone from this moment on
He looks at Smalls, smiling. She smiles back, taking his hand in hers. They were siblings, brother and sister, and although they annoyed the heck out of each other at times, they loved each other.
Smalls: That's just what we'll do
'Cause I'd rather be me
Race: I'd rather be me
"Always have to out-do me, don't you?" Smalls playfully whispers to Race, smiling.
Race sends her a cheeky smile. "That's me."
Race, Smalls: I'd rather be me than be with you
Smalls: We're supposed to all be ladies
Smalls points to all the girls.
Race, mockingly: And be nurturing and care
But, is that really fair?
Boys get to fight,
Smalls, rolling her eyes: we've to share
Here's the way that that turns out
We always understand
How to slap someone down
Race, Smalls: With our underhand
They put their fingers up again.
Race, Smalls: So here's our right fingers
Smalls, rolling her eyes: To how girls should behave
Race: 'Cause sometimes what's meant to break you
Race, Smalls: Makes you brave
Smalls, mockingly: So I will not act all innocent
Race: I won't fake apologize
Smalls, smirking: Let's just fight
Race, jumping in as he subtly glares at Smalls: and then make up
Race, Smalls: Not tell these lies
Race: Let's call our damage even
Smalls: Clean the slate till it's like new
It's a new life for me
Race: For I'd rather be me
Race and Smalls hold hands and raise them in the air, smiling at each other.
Race, Smalls: I'd rather be me than be with you
Race, pumping his fist in the air: I'll say, "NO!"
Smalls, doing the same: NO!
Race: I'll say, "Knock it off, with your notes
And your rules and your games."
Smalls, pointing to a Oscar: And those sycophants who follow you
I'll remember all their names
Race: And when they drag you down
Smalls: Like they inevitably do
Race, shaking his head: I will not laugh along with them
Smalls, mockingly: And approve their palace coup
Race, Smalls: 'Cause that's not me
"Yes, Smalls! Race!" They hear shouts from the Newsies, cheering them on, making them smile.
Smalls: I don't need their 'good opinions'
Race stifles a laugh at Smalls air quotes and sarcastic tone at 'good opinions', causing Smalls to smile.
Smalls: I have plenty of opinions
Race: Everybody has opinions but it doesn't make 'em true
Smalls, pointing to herself: What's true is being me
Race: And I'd rather be me
Race, Smalls, holding hands in the air again: I'd rather be me than be with you
Smalls: So raise them high
'Cause playing nice and shy
Is insulting my IQ
Race bursts out laughing, as Smalls snickers a bit. Some of the Newsies were laughing a lot as well.
(Race is in the () parentheses)
Smalls, Race: I'd rather be me
(I'd rather be me)
I'd rather be me
(I'd rather be me)
I'd rather be me than be with you
(I'd rather be me)
I'd rather be me
(I'd rather be me)
I'd rather be me
(I'd rather be me)
Race, Smalls: I'd rather be me than be with you
The two Newsies end their songs, hands in the air, as all of the kids, including the Newsies (and not Oscar and Morris) cheer.
Even some of the teachers were clapping for them.
As Race and Smalls hugged, they saw a teacher lead Oscar and Morris out of the room.
Oscar and Morris looked defeated and a bit worried about what was gonna happen.
That made Race and Smalls extra happy.
They hugged each other tighter. "No more Oscar and Morris. No more bullies. No nothing."
Race smiles. "No nothing."
Smalls smiles, too.

If you have suggestions and one-shots you want to read, comment them and I'll write them, I'm always looking for new ideas, though I have a lot of ideas right now. (If I don't know the song, I'll try my hardest to still write one.)
