Top 10 Hated Songs That I Actually Enjoy
So, there are a lot of lists for really bad songs, but too be honest, most of the songs they list, I've never heard of, and about half of the ones I have heard of I don't think are that bad. Additionally, there are quite a few bands that I don't typically enjoy, but I still like one of their songs.
Here is my top ten list of songs that usually get hate from either me or other people, but that I actually enjoy. Keep in mind that (excluding the honorable mentions) I'm placing these songs based on my personal preference, mot based on their overall popularity, although all of these get hate from either me or the general population.
9) Don't Wanna Know (Maroon 5)
Similar to the previous choice, I came to enjoy this song because of the 2016 edition of Just Dance for the Wii. I don't personally own the game myself, but I played it at a New Year's dance this past December before 2017. This is also the first song on this list to be included in my main Spotify playlist, and again, I'm not entirely sure why it gets so much hate.
8) Love Yourself (Justin Bieber)
Okay, let me start by saying that...I'm sorry. And this time, I really am. This is the only song on the list that I am truly embarrassed to admit that I enjoy, and trust me, from this point on, there are only three other songs that are truly hated by most people. I don't know why I like this one. When I first listened to it (this was also at a youth dance), I wasn't even sure it was Justin Bieber singing it. I will tell you right now, there is are very, very few things in this world that I truly hate, and I hate Justin Bieber with a passion. However, like with many terrible things, this is the one thing that I found good about this artist (not to mention the awesome parodies).
7) Indy Kidz (Cage the Elephant)
Okay, I'm sorry - I did include Cage the Elephant. I just had to, okay?
I do have to admit, this does happen to be one of my least favorite songs. But then again, this is a spectrum. Just because it's on the low end doesn't mean that I hate it. People complain that they were making fun of Indie Pop fans, but I don't really think that's the case.
6) Japanese Buffalo (Cage the Elephant)
I swear, this is the last Cage the Elephant song.
5) Heathens (Twenty-One Pilots)
Let me explain you a thing.
I'm sorry, okay? I've tried really hard to enjoy this artist. I really have. I'm not not too hyped on the mixture of pop, rock, rap, and somewhat hip-hop feel. The songs are okay. Just okay. I don't hate the band, I just don't really enjoy them at all.
4) We Built This City (Starship)
Okay.
I know I've said I'm confused why some of these songs get so much hate. I know that most of these are rated as either the worst songs ever, the worst songs by an artist, or the worst song of a generation. I know I've put some really bad songs on here, I know that I've apologized a lot, I know that I've said "okay" a lot in this list, and I know that I've said "I know" a lot in this paragraph alone.
But there's one thing that I don't know, and that's why this song has gotten so much hate. I think this song is excellent. Definitely a classic, and definitely one song that I'm not embarrassed to admit that I like.
3) Stressed Out (Twenty-One Pilots)
Yes, I don't like Twenty-One Pilots. I get it.
I love this song, though. I used to not since rap is the one music genre that I avoid, but it kind of grew on me after hearing over and over. And over. And...over. And over...and over...and over...and over...and...
Moving on.
I love the lines "My name's Blurryface, and I care what you think" as well as the bridge, "We used to play pretend, give each other different names. We would build a rocket ship, and we'd fly it far away," but my favorite line by far is "Used to dream of outer space, but now they're laughing at our face, singing, 'Wake up! You need to make money!'" I can totally relate to that.
I especially love the acoustic cover of this song by Alyssa Poppin:
This song was not only the first Twenty-One Pilots song that I heard, but it was also the song that lead me to explore the other songs written by the band, but also partly because my sister happens to be a fan.
2) Drag Me Down (One Direction)
I don't care what you guys think, I like this song. It's another one of those songs that I would use to describe a huge event that occured recently in my life. I came to love this song, again, hearing it at a youth dance.
1) What Makes You Beautiful (One Direction)
Again, I'm not a die-hard fan of 1-D (I'm not a fan, period) but this song is just gorgeous and it makes me cry, especially the parody, Virtue Makes You Beautiful.
Honorable Mentions (most of these are either just okay, or just don't get as much hate):
Me Too (Meghan Trainor)
Hey Soul Sister (Train)
I Knew You Were Trouble (Taylor Swift)
Can't Stop the Feeling (Justin Timberlake)
1) I'm Not Okay (My Chemical Romance)
...OKAY LET ME EXPLAIN!!!
I do NOT HATE My Chemical Romance. I think they are awesome. However, a lot of their songs are not appropriate. Additionally, this is the ONLY song I listen to that swears. I'm serious. Even so, I listen to a clean edit of this song.
I came across this song because I'm a fan of Thomas Sanders, especially the Sanders Sides videos, and this song was used to describe Anxiety's mood in the Personality Q&A video. I loved the song immediately, but once I heard that f-bomb I was sooo disappointed. Too late - I already loved it - so...clean edits. The bane of my existence.
