Chapter 7 Raw
Lyric sat quietly at the dinner table eating. She had been quiet since her father picked her up. She glanced up from her pasta at her parents who were both watching her.
"Please stop." She muttered and went back to eating.
"What happened at school?" Darren asked. Lyric just shrugged and tried to focus on finishing her dinner but she could feel her parents staring at her.
"Its very uncomfortable trying to eat with the two of you staring at me like that." She sighed.
"Lyric, honey.. you are starting to worry me." Sarah said. "You haven't been..yourself." She added. Lyric rolled her eyes.
"Don't roll your eyes at your mother Lyric." Darren said.
"May I be excused?" Lyric asked.
"No, you may not. I asked you a question. What happened at school?" Darren asked crossing his arms over his chest.
"I'd rather not talk about it."
"Lyric you called me crying hysterically to come and get you. We are going to talk about it. and we are going to talk about it Now." Darren said sternly.
"Why can't you just back off?!" Lyric asked losing her temper and her mind temporarily she sighed. "Sorry. I.. just don't want to talk about it." She said looking down at her plate.
"Why? You used to tell us everything." Sarah said. Lyric struggled to keep tears from falling out of her eyes. Darren stood up and walked around to Lyric and crouched down beside her.
"Talk to me kid." He said.
"I can't." She replied.
"Yes you can. You always can." Darren smiled and pushed her brown hair out of her puffy red eyes.
"It's just a bully Dad." Lyric shrugged.
"No, it's not just a bully. You've dealt with Bullies before and this has never happened. What is going on?"
"I changed my mind. Julliard is not what I want." Lyric said. "I just want to go back to Boston. Please." She begged. Now her parents were incredibly worried but Lyric was serious. She didn't want to go back to a school where every one of her classmates thought she gave a teacher a blow job just to get what she wanted and if this was the only thing standing in the way to get into the school she wanted, she didn't care anymore everything was much better before she moved here it was easier.
"You don't mean that. You are just homesick." Darren said.
"No. Dad. I'm not homesick. I changed my mind. I don't want to go to Julliard and I don't want to go back to this school. I just want to get the hell out of this town!" Lyric said and stood up pushing her way past him.
"Where are you going?" Darren asked as she walked towards the door and slipped her shoes on.
"I don't know. I need some air." She said and picked up her guitar case that was leaning up under the coat rack and opened the front door and walked out.
Killian was helping his brother set up the bar for an open mic night as people were starting to show up. He strummed away at his guitar and sang into the microphone. He finished his song and looked over at Liam who was standing in the back. "How does it sound back there?" He asked.
"Good, but a simple testing, 1. 2 would have worked brother." Liam smirked. Killian grinned and chuckled to himself.
"I thought it sounded great."
Killian's head snapped up in the direction of the voice and he set his eyes on Lyric.
"Be right back Liam." He said and set his guitar down and walked over to Lyric taking her by her upper arm and pulling her away from everyone else.
"You can not be here." He hissed.
"Why not?" She asked.
"Because, you are severely underage!" Killian snapped.
"But I'm not drinking. I just want to play." Lyric said Killian shook his head.
"No. Not here." He said. Liam walked over
"What's the problem?" He asked.
"The problem is, we need to fire our bouncer for not knowing a fake ID when he sees one." Killian said. "This is Lyric, she's one of my students." Killian said. Liam extended his hand Lyric shook his hand.
"Liam Jones." He smiled.
"Nice to meet you." Lyric said returning his smile.
"What, you don't get enough of this bastard during school you have to come see him here?" Liam asked with a smirk. Lyric giggled.
"I didn't know he'd be here. I was just out walking and saw the open mic sign, but Mr. Jones already said I have to go." She said.
"Oh, Come on Killian just let the girl play. What's it going to hurt?" Liam asked.
"Fine." Killian sighed. Liam patted his shoulder and walked off.
"I like him." Lyric smiled.
"Everyone does." Killian said rolling his eyes. "You're up first." He said.
"What? No.. I need some time to prepare." Lyric said.
"Nope, you wanted to play. You play first. Consider it extra credit."
"You're grading me on this?" Lyric asked.
Killian smirked and walked away. Lyric looked around at all the people in the bar. She hadn't played in front of this many people since she lived in Boston.
"You Ready Lass?" Liam asked into the microphone. Lyric stared at him like a deer in headlights. "Come on love, Don't be shy." He chuckled. Lyric walked up and opened her guitar case and pulled out her guitar and sat down on the stool and went to speak in the microphone but almost knocked it over she grabbed it before it fell.
"Sorry." She said and looked over at Killian who pointed to his watch and mouthed the words "Tick Tock Love" She raised her eyebrow at him.
"So.. my name is Lyric McKenna and...yeah..so.." She sighed Public speaking was not one of her strong suits.
"Here goes." She muttered to herself and started playing the beginning to Walking in Memphis.
Killian stood back watching her play and sing Liam walked over and nudged his shoulder.
"Shes good."
"Aye." Killian agreed. "She is, but I've seen her do better."
Liam just gave him a look.
"In class, Liam." Killian sighed.
"Well, she's not in class. She's at a bar, singing in front of a bunch of people. She's nervous." Liam said in Lyric's defense. Lyric finished playing and people clapped.
"Th..thank you." She stuttered out.
"She's not done yet." Killian muttered and walked to the stage and rolled out the keyboard and took her guitar.
"What are you doing?" Lyric hissed
"One more song Love." He said.
"Then give me back my guitar!" She whispered.
"Nope. Play this."
"I'm going to make a fool of myself Kil-Mr. Jones." Lyric sighed.
"No you wont. You do better when you challenge yourself." He said.
"I don't know what to play." She said.
"Play what speaks to you." He smiled. It was the words he used when she first played for him in the summer. He walked off the stage and joined Liam.
"She looks like she wants to kill you mate." Liam chuckled.
"Just wait." He said.
Lyric sighed heavily and cleared her throat and flexed her fingers before playing the beginning notes of Desperado which was the song that was playing when She met him.
"Damn.." Liam said halfway through the song. Killian just nodded struggling to keep his emotions in check as he listened to her singing, her voice was powerful and full of raw emotion. Lyric finished and people stood while clapping. Lyric was overwhelmed
"Thank.. you." She managed to squeak out before standing and picking up her guitar and walking off the stage and towards the door. Killian caught her arm.
"Where are you going? That was amazing." He said.
"I just thought I should go." She said.
"No.. stay a while." He said and led her to a table. She sat down and Liam brought her a water.
"Thank you." She said quietly as Killian sat down next to her.
"So.. What really happened between you and Regina at school today?" Killian asked.
"Trust me. You do not want to know." Lyric said and sipped at her water.
"Well, I do, or I wouldn't have asked." Killian chuckled.
"Fine, The entire school thinks I gave you a blow job to get back into your class." Lyric said with a straight face. Killian spit his water out.
"What?" He asked.
"Don't make me say it again." Lyric said.
"That is ridiculous!" He said. "You should have said something, I could have put a stop to it."
"Its.. fine." Lyric said.
"No. Lyric it's not." Killian said.
"I'm.. trying to convince my parents to move back to Boston." Lyric said softly.
"Why?" Killian asked with disappointment in his eyes.
"Because, I changed my mind about Juilliard."
"No. You didn't. You just don't want to deal with Regina. You don't just change your mind like that."
"I did and the sooner I get out of here. The better." Lyric said.
"So you are just going to run away?" He asked.
"I'm not running away."
"Yes you are." Killian argued. "It's a rumor, it will pass. Don't give up just because Regina is a bitch."
"It's not just Regina Killian!" Lyric said raising her voice.
"Quiet!" Killian hissed.
"It's not just Regina. Its you. I am trying so damn hard to stay away from you and the universe just keeps pushing us back together, and we can't do this. You are my teacher. I am your student it is wrong on so many levels" Lyric whispered.
"I know." Killian sighed.
"I have to go." Lyric said and stood.
"Let me take you home. Its dark."
"I'm not afraid of the big bad wolf." Lyric said.
"Just hush, and get in my car." Killian said and led her out of the Bar. Lyric hesitated but got in the car anyways knowing damn well she shouldn't have but here she was yet again losing herself over Killian Jones.
"Where do you live?" He asked.
"1300 East Oak." Lyric replied.
They sat in silence as Killian parked the car outside of her house.
"Don't go back to Boston." Killian spoke up.
"Why?" Lyric asked.
"Just don't." Killian said.
"Yeah. Okay." Lyric sighed and went to get out of the car put Killian caught her wrist and pulled her to him.
"Don't. Go." He said again and pulled her in planting his lips on hers.
