chapter one: Where It All Started.
*who would have imagined it started with this?
~~
" Ellie!!! "
I could see her running towards me waving her hand, and yelling my name at the top of her lungs. She continued to run and yell my name at the same time. The need to yell my name, I didn't quite understand. Wasn't she on her way here already?
I shut my locker. And leaned against it as I patiently waited for here to get here. A trashcan got in her way and she fell, with a loud thud. But that didn't stop her. Oh no. She got up again, gave the can a good kick, but ended up hurting herself instead.
She rubbed her foot, cursed a little and continued on her mission.
Finally, after kicking all obstacles that stood in her way, she made it, painting heavily might I add.
She bended over, trying to catch her breath. Then, she stood up straight, clearly unstable.
"Ellie! I've been yelling your name! You didn't hear or see me?"
I fake gasped." You were? I didn't realize."
"Meanie." She muttered and I smirked.
"Why were you so excited anyway? " I asked her. "You got an A on a test or something? "
" Nope. Even better."
"What could be better than an A on a test?"
"Aaron? "
Of course.
"Aaron Shaw. He's walking in. Look!"
I turned my head and sure enough, there he was. Aaron Shaw. He walked in with his signature headphone, around his neck. I honestly didn't know if that was his favorite headphones, or if they were just his only pair.
What I'm I saying!? The dude's loaded! His dirty blonde hair was swept to the side and his small, thin lips was in a small smile and his grey eyes brightened as he talked to his friends.
"Isn't he a hottie?"
"Wait, let me get this straight, you ran a marathon, yelling my name, fell on your face flat, because of Aaron?"
" He's worth it, Ellie, he is so worth it."
I shook my head. What can I say, I'm not surprised. She does this every day. It's like her thing.
"Remind me why I'm friends with you. " I groaned.
"Because you love me?"
"No, it 'cause I don't have a choice. "
"Ellie! " she shouted, giving me a smack on my arm.
"Aww! I was kidding! " I said, rubbing the sore spot on my arm.
"I know. I just wanted to hit you."
"Now, who's the meanie?" I resorted.
I turned my attention back to my locker and started listing out my books for the day.
"Miss Bloom's announced that she was going to assign a project to us this week. She said we were each going to monitor the life circle of a chick. Imagine that. Has she told you in your class?"
I got no response.
" Skye? "
I turned to find her attention completely glued to a particular direction. I followed her gaze, till it fell on Mr oh-so-perfect. Aaron. Oh, my God.
"SKYE! "
"I'm listening!" she yelled as she quickly turned back to me.
"Good. Then, you'll have no problem telling what me what I said?"
Her eyes widened. "Uhh, you, were, telling, me, something, about, uh, marshmallows?"
Marshmallows? She honestly couldn't have thought about anything, anything at all, but marshmallows?
"Skye." I whined.
"I'm sorry, okay. But, but it's not my fault. "
" Who's fault is it, then? "
"Blame the heat radiating off of that hot, hot body." she said as she dreamily starred at Aaron.
I won't be able to get a word into her skull if we're anywhere near 10 feets of Aaron.
"Come with me."
I grabbed her bag, dragging her off with me.
"Hey! "
"You'll thank me later." I told her.
"I definitely will not. "
I sighed."You know you shouldn't even metinon Aaron around me. We're practically enemies!" I told her.
"Just because you guys are rivals at your bands doesn't I mean you can't be friends at school. "
"Uh, yes. It does. If Christine should get to know I'm even talking about a rival, she'll waste no time in kicking me out." I explained.
"She can't kick you out. " she said waving me off. But when she saw the reaction on my face she asked, "Can she?"
"well, considering the fact that she's the leader, I think she can."
"Bummer. "
If you're confused on what is going on here. Here's a recap.
I'm Ellie. The newbie who just joined the well known girl band: The shakers. And Aaron is a part of our rival group a boy band called The boy cruise. The leader Christine, does not mix pleasure with work. If she learns I'm having any thing to do with a guy from one of the rivals team? She won't hesitate to throw me out.
"If I was in you're shoes I wouldn't care about whatever Christine thinks, I'll go right ahead and kiss him. "
"Dude! "
"What? I'm only speaking the truth. "
"Let's just get to class." I told her pulling her with me. "You say the most ridiculous things."
"Says the girl who has a grudge on snow." She scoffed.
"Hey!," I yelled. "Snow and I are mortal enemies, you hear me?"
"You've gone insane, Ellie."
"Says the girl who stalked Aaron for a whole weekend. " I imitated her.
"But at least I'm not spending extra time in school just so I could practice my songs."
" You know I'm doing that 'cause my mom will freak if she finds out I'm in a band."
"I know, I know. " she muttered. "Are you doing it today too? "
"Well, I have to. We have a riff-off with the boy cruise this weekend and I can't afford to mess up." I told her my, face creasing with worry.
"You won't mess up". Skye said, reassuring me.
"How can you be so sure?"
"Because I know you. And you have a killa voice."
I sighed. "Ellie, it's gonna be fine. "
She rubbed my arm soothing me and I nodded.
I hope.
########
"I'll see you tomorrow?"
" Do you need to ask? "
"Can't you just say 'yes'"
I rolled my eyes. "Bye, skye." she pulled me into a hug before she got into the bus. The last bus that comes only after all buses were back at school. The school was almost empty right now.
"Bye Ellie! "she waved and I smiled at her waving back before I went back into school.
Okay, now to get to business. I need to get a a lot of practice done if I'm going to prove myself to the rest if the shakers. I entered one of the empty classrooms and started rehearsing for the riff-off.
"Hmm, hmm, hmm hmm. "
I warmed my voice. I cleared my throat and coughed a little.
"Oh oh oh, oh, oh, oh oh, oh, oh, I've been watching you for some time,"
No not good enough. I tried again.
"I've been watching you for some time, can't stop staring at those ocean eyes, burning cities and napalm skies, "
No, no, no.
I groaned. This is not going well. I'm gonna mess up at the riff- off. No, I can give up yet. I need to try again.
" I've been watching you for some time, can't stop staring at those ocean eyes."
"Bunrnig cities and napalm skies, fifteen flares in those ocean eyes, your ocean eyes."
That wasn't my voice.
I turned. Aaron.
Oh God.
"Yes? Aaron, how may I help you? "
"I want to help you, actually. You're raising the pitch of you're voice too high. That's why you're not getting it. Put the pitch low at he first few lines. Then when you get to the last two you raise it higher. But, just a little bit."
Wait , what? Why was he helping me? I get that he's nice and all but why is he helping me?
"You didn't understand what I said? " he asked.
"uh," I said struggling to find my voice."No, no. I did. It's just I'm.. "
"Then try it. " He cut me off.
Pushy...
Swallowing and coughing, I managed to do exactly as he said. "I've been watching you for sometime, can't stop staring at those clean eyes. Burning cities and napalm skies fifteen flares in those ocean eyes. Your ocean eyes. "
It sounded amazing. A smile immediately tugged at my lips.
"Thank you, thank you, thank you." I squealed, laughing.
"No problem. " He said
"You know I'm probably gonna beat you in the riff -off now right? " I told him.
He shrugged. "At least I helped."
Hmm. I literally have nothing to say to that.
"What are you still doing in school anyway?" I asked him.
"The same thing you're doing. " He replied.
"But, why are you rehearsing in school?" I asked.
" I could ask you the same thing." He resorted.
"Fine. I won't tell you why I'm rehearsing here and you won't tell me why. Deal? "
"Deal." He agreed.
"Good. Now, let's get the hell outta here."
" Elsa! Language. " Aaron scolded me.
"Sorry, dad. " I grinned. He turned to leave. Then I remembered something. "Hey, Aaron!? "
I stopped him. He turned back to look at me.
" This doesn't make us friends or anything. Just so you know."
I told him. I couldn't afford him trying to talk to me at school tomorrow. That'll be risky. Our teamates would freak if we said we were friends. And I'm sure he knows that too.
"Don't worry, I know. "
I nodded, assured. He lead the way to the door. The entire school was empty. But I was used to it. This isn't the first time I'm doing this. The school was always empty but the door was always unlocked. Always.
Aaron pushed the door.
It didn't open. He pushed again and again, nothing.
"Aaron what's going on? "
"I don't know. It's not budging. "
" Meaning? "
"I mean, it's not opening."
God, this boy his so weak.
"You're muscles are fake, Aaron. Move aside, let me."
He raised his hands in the air and backed away from the door. I pushed. And pushed. And pushed. "Aaron, try again, please. "
" I thought my muscles are fake? " He teased.
But, he immediately, backed up when he saw the the scrowl on my face.
He sighed. And resumed pushing.
"It's no use. It's like something's blocking it from opening."
" Something's blocking it?" I monotoned." So in others words, we're. stuk. in. here?"
He nodded slowly.
Well. Will someone do me the honors of hitting me with a bus?
