29. Unpopulars For The Win
*the next day, at lunch*
“Hey, girls,” Birdo sat down at her usual table.
“Hi,” Toadette waved.
“Hey, Bow!” Dixie grinned.
“Nuh-uh,” Peach shook her head. “Don’t sit down yet.” Dixie and Toadette glanced at each other, unaware of what Peach was up to now.
“Why not?” Birdo questioned. “Can I at least put down my tray?”
“Fine,” Peach replied.
“Well, what do you want?” Birdo asked, still standing. Peach took out her phone from her pocket and went to the Photos app.
“Does this look familiar, Birdo?” Peach smirked, showing Dixie, Toadette, and Birdo a picture of…
“How did you get that?” Birdo simply asked, looking at the picture of she and Yoshi hugging last night. Dixie and Toadette gasped in surprise.
“Well, I happened to pass Flipswitch Felix last night and I just couldn’t resist taking a picture of the happy couple,” Peach stated.
“Can I sit down now?” Birdo sighed.
“Not until you make a decision,” Peach answered. “If you want to remain friends with us, you have to go to Yoshi sometime today and tell him that what happened last night was a prank.”
“But, it wasn’t!” Birdo protested.
“Darling, it’s called lying. You’ve done it before,” Peach said. “But if you love him so much that you can’t dump him a second time, then you might as well leave the table.” Birdo picked up her tray.
“You know what? I don’t freaking care if I’m ‘popular’,” Birdo said. “I absolutely can’t deal with you anymore! You think that the world revolves around you. You’re only nice to us when we follow your ‘orders’. PEACH, WE’RE NOT YOUR SERVANTS! Why do you treat us like we are? I’m not just leaving because of Yoshi. I’m leaving because I want to be my own person, not a clone of you!”
Birdo then stormed off, leaving the girls she had been a friend of for as long as she could remember. Although it’s mostly Peach’s fault, Birdo thought. If she didn’t become part of our little group in 7th grade, everything would be fine.
“Peach, that was kinda a bad idea…” Toadette said slowly and quietly.
“Do you want to join her, Toadette?” Peach snapped, obviously now in a bad mood. Toadette quickly shook her head.
“No thank you,” she replied, awkwardly looking down at her food.
“I still can’t believe she chose those losers over us,” Peach muttered.
Dixie remained quiet, she knew that no one should mess with Peach when she was in a bad mood. Toadette, however, was slightly sad and she couldn’t help but think that what Peach said was unfair. Because of Peach, Toadette’s possibly-ex-best-friend was no longer part of their group.
Meanwhile, the unpopulars were having a conversation of their own.
“I knew it, I knew it,” Daisy grinned. “The way you looked at each other before you got together- you two obviously missed each other!”
“Since when did you start reading romance?” Boo questioned.
“I don’t…” Daisy was confused. “What are you implying?”
“That what you just said sounded as if it came from a cheesy romance novel!” Mario laughed.
“It did not… Oh wait, it kinda did…” Daisy turned slightly red.
Toad suddenly noticed someone quietly standing near the table and glancing at him and his friends.
“Umm… How long have you been standing there?” Toad asked, causing everyone else at the table to look at whatever Toad was looking at, which happened to be Birdo.
“Not very long,” Birdo answered.
“Hey, Bow!” Yoshi waved. “What do you need?”
“Can I sit with you guys?” Birdo said. The unpopulars looked at each other before looking back at Birdo.
“Sure!” Rosalina replied. “Pull a chair over.”
“Thanks,” Birdo pulled a chair to the table and sat down in between Daisy and Yoshi.
“Why aren’t you with your friends though?” Luigi questioned.
“My friends? You mean Peach and her wannabes?” Birdo gestured to her old group. “I left them.”
“What made you decide to leave now of all times?” Toad asked. Birdo told them about what had just happened ten minutes ago.
“You know… You didn’t have to leave them for me…” Yoshi blushed.
“I didn’t just leave them for you,” Birdo stated. “I got sick of Peach. She's so conceited and self-centered.”
“Welcome to our world,” Boo said quietly, being the shy ghost he is.
“So glad you joined us, Birdo,” Toad smiled. “The less populars, the better.”
Soon, everyone at the table had finished their lunches and they hung out by the lockers.
*one week later*
Luigi saw someone at the end of the hallway and took a deep breath. It's now or never, he thought. He approached the person and cleared his throat.
“Daisy?” Luigi tapped Daisy’s shoulder.
“Oh, hi Luigi,” Daisy turned around to face her crush.
“Can I talk to you for a bit?” Luigi asked.
“Umm, sure,” Daisy leaned against her locker. “What do you need?”
“Well, can we go somewhere else?” Luigi said.
“Oh… You want to talk in private?” Daisy questioned.
“Yeah…” Luigi replied.
“Then, come on. I know where to go,” Daisy led Luigi out of the hallway and to the school courtyard.
Since it was almost spring, the snow had already begun to melt and the ground was a mix of brown, green, and white. Luigi and Daisy felt the cool, but faint morning breeze as they walked towards a bench to sit down.
“So, what’s up?” Daisy asked. “Not literally, of course.” She didn’t know what Luigi had to say, but she certainly wasn’t expecting what was going to happen in the next few moments.
“Daisy, I’ve been thinking about this for awhile and the way you feel about me-” Luigi started, but was interrupted.
“Is wrong and I should just think about you as a friend,” Daisy finished.
“No, I don’t think it’s wrong,” Luigi replied. “Because if I thought it was wrong, we wouldn't be talking in private right now.”
“Go on…” Daisy said.
“I think… I feel the same way…” Luigi’s voice was only slightly louder than a whisper.
“What?” Daisy was confused, but shocked as well. “Y-you do???”
“Want to go out with me?” Luigi cracked a small smile when he said that.
“Of course,” Daisy grinned and she kissed her crush of three years. Meanwhile, someone was taking a walk in the courtyard…
“Hey beautiful, wanna run away with-“ Waluigi approached the couple, but what he said was obviously directed at Daisy. However, Waluigi suddenly realized that Luigi and Daisy were in each other’s arms and both of them were completely ignoring him.
“Dang it!” Waluigi exclaimed, immediately heading inside.
Yaaayy! Luigi and Daisy are finally together. I never thought I would see the day... Wait, what am I talking about? I wrote that part! Silly me... Oh and Birdo's an unpopular now! She finally lost her patience with Peach. Btw there's still drama in the next chapter... I never get tired of stressing out the characters in my book, do I? Plus, what Waluigi said at the end of this chapter is a continuation of what he was saying in Chapter 12! Anyways pls add, comment, vote, etc. Thanks!
