26. Rosalina's Birthday

*a week and two days later*

“Coming!” Rosalina yelled when the doorbell rang. She quickly brushed her hair one more time. Before going downstairs to answer the door, Rosalina glanced at her reflection in the mirror.

Rosalina was wearing a white romper with her favorite sky blue hoodie over it. She was also wearing glittery blue flats. Rosalina also sported a dreamcatcher necklace, a bracelet with an infinity charm, and a bright blue hair clip. Her makeup consisted of mascara, red lipstick, and coral-colored blush.

A minute later, the birthday girl went downstairs and opened the front door. “Hey!” she grinned. Mario and Luigi were at the door.

“Happy belated birthday!” they said in unison, hugging Rosalina after putting their gifts down. Rosalina had actually turned fifteen yesterday.

“Thanks! I’ll open my gifts later,” Rosalina stated. “Right now, we have to wait for the others.”

Soon Daisy, Yoshi, Boo, and Toad had arrived. After hanging out for a bit in Rosalina’s house, the friends left for where they were going to have dinner.

*twenty minutes later*

“Oh my gosh, Rosie!” Daisy exclaimed, looking ahead. “We’re eating THERE?!” The friends were approaching Chef Toadley’s, a first-class steakhouse and Rosalina hadn’t told her friends where they were eating in advance.

“Yes, we are,” Rosalina said.

“I know we haven’t eaten yet, but thank you so freaking much!” Yoshi was awestruck. “I’ve been wanting to go here so badly! I heard they have the best steak in town.”

“Yeah, everyone who’s rich enough to eat here says that,” Mario said.

“Guys, we’re only eating here because of the occasion,” Rosalina stated. “Don’t start treating me like a millionaire. I haven’t been here before either.”

The group arrived at the restaurant. They were taken to their table right after Rosalina claimed her reservation. On the way there, the friends heard two oh-so-familiar voices.

“Hey, losers,” one of them said. Mario, Luigi, Daisy, Yoshi, Boo, Rosalina, and Toad all noticed Peach, Dixie, and Peach’s parents at a table. Seeing Peach and Dixie would normally ruin Rosalina’s mood, but not today.

“Losers?” Peach’s mom raised an eyebrow.

“It’s just a joke,” Peach assured her and gave the unpopulars a fake but convincing smile. “Happy birthday, Rosalina.”

“Thank you,” Rosalina returned the fake smile. “And you might want to deal with that misplaced hair strand.” Peach gasped and immediately looked at herself on the camera of her phone. Rosalina’s friends managed to contain their laughter. Then, the unpopulars went to their assigned table and sat down.

*an hour later*

The friends had just finished their meals and were waiting for Rosalina to receive her birthday cake slice.

“The food is so indescribably delicious,” Toad grinned, adjusting his glasses.

“I know right,” Mario agreed. “I’d eat here every weekend if I could.”

“But if you do that, this place won’t be so special anymore,” Boo pointed out.

“Aww,” Mario frowned. “Fine, but I’ll consider eating here for my birthday.”

“OUR birthday,” Luigi corrected. Everyone at the table laughed.

“Sometimes, I forget that you two are related,” Rosalina said.

“Well, I’ll always be a minute older than Weegee,” Mario stated. “Just remember that.”

“At least Luigi acts older,” Toad joked, causing the friends to laugh once more.

“Speaking of age, I can’t believe you’re already fifteen,” Daisy told Rosalina. “You make me feel so young.”

“Don’t worry, we’ll be the same age again in a month,” Rosalina giggled.

Shortly after the birthday girl said that, her birthday cake slice was given to her. Several waiters and waitresses gathered around the table to sing Happy Birthday. Boo snatched Rosalina’s phone and took pictures and a video of the scene.

Once the waiters and waitresses left, Rosalina took a moment to admire her cake slice. It was chocolate- her favorite- with white icing and sprinkles. Big strawberries bordered the plate and “Happy Birthday, Rosalina!” was written in whipped cream.

Rosalina took a picture (Boo had returned her phone) and then closed her eyes. I wish to keep the friends I have and make new ones as well, she thought. Then, Rosalina opened her eyes and blew out the candle.

“What did you wish for?” Mario questioned.

“I can’t tell you or else my wish won’t come true,” Rosalina replied.

“I’m definitely making a review on my blog about this place,” Yoshi stated.

“Your blog recently reached 200 followers!” Toad informed the green dinosaur.

“Seriously?!” Yoshi grinned. “Why didn’t I notice before?”

“Peachy’s StarTube channel recently reached 100,000 subscribers,” Mario said.

“Peachy? You call her Peachy now?!” Luigi simply stared at his brother.

“It’s a cute nickname,” Mario sighed happily.

“Mario, I’m sorry but no talking about Peach today. It’s my birthday and you know how much I hate her,” Rosalina said.

“Fine…” Mario replied. “But, I can talk about her tomorrow right?”

“Yes, yes, you can,” Boo assured to make Mario stop talking about Peach for now. After Rosalina paid for the food, the friends returned to Rosalina’s house to hang out even more.

*two hours later*

Everyone had left, except for Daisy. She and Rosalina sat on Rosalina’s bed, eating watermelon popsicles. Rosalina decided to tell Daisy something.

“Dai,” Rosalina said.

“What?” Daisy turned to face her best friend.

“I have a secret blog,” Rosalina said. “It’s kinda like my journal.”

“Wow,” Daisy smiled. “That’s cool! What’s its URL?” Suddenly, Rosalina looked out the window.

“I think your car is here,” she told Daisy.

“Aww,” Daisy wasn’t very enthusiastic about leaving. “Well, happy birthday again! And tell me the URL, okay?”

“I’ll text it to you,” Rosalina replied. “Bye! Thanks for coming over and giving me the gift!” Daisy had gotten her a novel that she thought Rosalina would like. Daisy knew that Rosalina was the kind of girl that read a lot. Once Daisy had left, Rosalina texted her the URL of her blog.

Shortly after sending the message, Rosalina noticed something terribly wrong. Oh no! Rosalina thought, panicked. I sent the message to the wrong person!!!

*meanwhile, at Peach’s house*

Peach suddenly got a new text notification from… Rosalina?! she thought. What would she want to send me? Peach opened her conversation with Rosalina, which was completely empty except for that one text. She read it.

“What’s this?” Peach wondered aloud.

She typed the link on her laptop and immediately saw what looked like an online journal. Peach read each and every single entry on the blog. Some entries were even posted in 7th grade!

“Poor Rosie,” Peach laughed. “Looks like this blog of hers will soon be a most visited site for our fellow classmates!”

How was that chapter? Fyi this isn't the first time Rosalina's blog is mentioned. It was also mentioned in Chapter 13. If you're thinking that Peach will tell everyone about Rosalina's blog right away then... Well find out what happens! In case you're too lazy to go and check the non-chapter I published after Chapter 13, Rosalina's birthday is on March 1 which means this chapter took place on March 2. I'm telling you already that lots of things will happen in March (in this book) so be prepared! Anyways pls add, comment, vote, etc. Thanks!
