21. Valentines Day

*a week and a half later*

Bowser was nervous. He had spent the past week worrying about whether Peach would like what he had planned for the two of them or not. Bowser knew Peach had extremely high standards. It had to be extra-special because it was also his and Peach’s one-year anniversary of dating. Bowser was waiting next to his car in front of Peach’s house.

5 minutes after 6 pm, Peach exited her house and walked to Bowser’s car. She was stunning. Peach had worn hot pink stilettos, a glittery magenta dress, and a white blazer. She also wore sapphire earrings, a diamond necklace, and a red hair bow. Peach’s makeup consisted of mascara, red lipstick, and coral blush.

“You look beautiful,” Bowser smiled.

“Thanks,” Peach replied. Bowser opened the car door for her and entered the car after her.

“Oh, you have to have this around your eyes because where I’m taking you is a surprise,” Bowser tied a cloth around Peach’s eyes.

“My makeup might be ruined!” Peach complained.

“It won’t be,” Bowser assured. During the car ride, Peach was getting impatient.

“Are we there yet?” Peach asked ten minutes into the car ride.

“No,” Bowser answered.

“Are we there yet?” Peach asked ten minutes later.

“Umm, sorry to say this but we’re stuck in traffic,” Bowser said. Peach groaned. “Well, you shouldn’t be surprised because there’s always traffic during evenings of Valentines Day… For obvious reasons,” Bowser pointed out.

“I guess that makes sense,” Peach said.

“We’re at our destination!” Bowser told Peach twenty minutes later.

“Yes!” Peach replied happily.

“But, now we have to ride an elevator.”

“Ugh.”

“Come on, let’s get out of the car,” Bowser took Peach’s hand and the two of them got out of the car. Bowser thanked his driver. Then, they headed into an elevator.

“What floor is this place you’re taking me to on?” Peach questioned.

“100th,” Bowser replied simply.

“Well, we’re gonna be here for awhile,” Peach mumbled to herself.

The elevator doors opened three minutes later. Bowser and Peach walked down a short hallway and then they stopped.

“I’m removing your cloth now,” Bowser untied the cloth that was covering Peach’s eyes.

The first thing Peach saw was a large rectangular poster on a wall. It said “Blue Star” in an elegant font. At the top of the poster, it said “First Revolving Restaurant In Toad Town”. At the bottom of the poster, it said “5-Star International Cuisine”.

Bowser nervously glanced at Peach. To his relief, she looked awestruck.

“Omg, thanks so much! I’ve been wanting to go here since it opened,” Peach kissed Bowser on the cheek. Blue Star had only opened about a month ago.

“Anytime for you,” Bowser smiled as the two of them approached the entrance.

“Reservation for 2 under Koopa,” Bowser told the hostess. She led the couple to their table.

“I have a gift for you, too,” Peach gave Bowser a small wrapped box.

“Thanks. Can I open it?” Bowser asked.

“Sure,” Peach answered. Bowser unwrapped and opened the box to reveal 6 VIP tickets to a Big Bad Bullies concert.

“Seriously? VIP tickets?! I can’t thank you enough!” Bowser exclaimed.

“Haha, well you’re welcome. The tickets are for you, Wario, Waluigi, DK, Diddy, and someone else. I bought one for Toad because I bought the tickets before the incident,” Peach explained.

“Come with us,” Bowser suggested.

“Nah, they don’t do my kind of music. Besides, I’m going on a shopping spree with Di, Dettie, and Bow then. If you can’t find anyone else to take, you can give the extra ticket back to me because I have a cousin who really wants to go to the concert,” Peach said.

“You can take back the extra ticket,” Bowser said. “Thanks again!”

“No prob,” Peach grinned. “I’m getting hungry, let’s look at the menu now.”

*meanwhile, in Yoshi’s house*

Yoshi wasn’t in a very good mood today. He needed someone to get his mind off Birdo. Yoshi knew who to call. He picked up his mPhone and made a call. “Hey, Yosh,” Daisy said.

“Hi, Dai,” Yoshi said. “Are you busy?”

“Umm no, why?” Daisy wondered.

“Wanna sleep over at my house? I need someone to hang out with,” Yoshi said.

“Same. Ok, I’ll come over. See you in a few minutes!” Daisy hung up. She showed up at Yoshi’s house 15 minutes later. “What do you wanna do first?” Daisy asked.

“Umm, eat I guess? Go to my room, I’ll bring up some food,” Yoshi went to the kitchen. He brought bags of chips and bowls of fruit on a tray to his room. The two friends instantly began snacking.

“I’m glad you invited me over. I think about Luigi way too much and it’s seriously making me feel guilty because every time I think about him, I end up thinking about the incident and how it ruined his relationship with Rosie. You’re the best and only person that can help me,” Daisy said.

“I’m glad you came because I also have a problem. No matter how much I try to move on from Birdo, I just end up thinking about her even more. It’s upsetting because I was looking forward to spending Valentines Day with her,” Yoshi popped a peach into his mouth.

“Our hearts may not agree with our brains,” Daisy said thoughtfully. “Our brains want us to move on, but our hearts don’t. And our hearts are more powerful than our brains.”

“Well, where did you find that out?” Yoshi asked curiously.

“As Rosie once told me, we need to pick up words of wisdom from our experiences in the past,” Daisy smiled. “So Yoshi, I can’t really give you any advice even though I want to because I can’t control your heart and neither can you. So, all I can tell you is to hope for the best and trust that your heart is doing the right thing.”

“But, is missing Birdo the right thing to do?” Yoshi questioned, slightly frustrated.

“If you miss her, it means you don’t have a heart of stone,” Daisy replied. “But to find out if missing her is the right thing to do, you’ll have to wait.”

“Thanks, Dai,” Yoshi grinned. “My turn to give you advice.”

“Actually, my problem is a little different from yours. I don’t wanna move on from Luigi but I’m really stressed out about my relationship with him. Whenever he’s around, I feel indescribably awkward,” Daisy explained. She noticed that her eyes were starting to feel weird, so she rubbed them.

“Maybe all you really need to do is wait. Or you could do it Rosie-style and talk to him, unless he talks to you first,” Yoshi suggested.

“I don’t think I can talk to him straightforward,” Daisy said. “I’m not that brave.” Suddenly, Daisy’s eyes felt weird again and she quickly rubbed them once more.

“Then, make your progress gradual,” Yoshi advised. He noticed that Daisy looked a little strange and leaned slightly closer to her to notice what about her was odd. Then, it hit him. “Dai… Are you crying?” he asked quietly.

“No, what makes you think I am?” Daisy replied. Unfortunately right after she said that, a tear escaped her eye and rushed down her cheek. And a few more did after that. Yoshi came closer to her and gave her a hug.

“It’ll be ok, I promise. You just have to wait a little and get through it,” Yoshi said. Daisy hugged him back and silently cried into his shoulder.

“And what if it doesn’t get better? What if my friendship with Luigi is ruined?” she said.

“Has he tried to make up with you?” Yoshi asked.

“Well,” Daisy sniffed. “He tried calling and texting me on the Saturday and Sunday after the party.”

“Did you answer his calls or reply to his texts?” Yoshi questioned.

“No,” Daisy admitted. “I was scared.”

“Did you even read the messages?” Yoshi said.

“No…” Daisy replied softly.

“See? For all you know, Luigi could be trying to make amends with you,” Yoshi pointed out.

“And what if he isn’t?” Daisy stuffed a handful of potato chips into her mouth.

“There’s only one way to find out. You just need a little bit of confidence. Besides, I don’t think Luigi’s the type to get mad at people for these types of things,” Yoshi said in an attempt to make Daisy feel better.

“You don’t know that…” Daisy replied slowly.

“Want me to talk to him for you?” Yoshi asked.

“I’d appreciate that,” Daisy smiled.

“Daisy, you’re one of the strongest people I know. You can get through this. Just try to have small talk with him at first and let your relationship progress from there,” Yoshi said, looking into Daisy’s bright blue eyes.

“Yoshi, I owe you so much right now. Thanks for always being there for me,” Daisy hugged Yoshi again.

“No problem. Wanna play something on my PS3?” Yoshi grinned.

“Sure!” Daisy grinned despite the fact that tears were still rolling down her face.

*a few hours later, at Birdo’s house*

It was almost 2 am and Birdo couldn’t sleep. She hadn’t been sleeping much for about two weeks. Yoshi was always on her mind and she kept remembering what happened at the party.

*flashback*

"... Everything all came from a prank?" Yoshi mumbled.

"Yosh, I've changed. Now, I love you for real," Birdo said.

"How am I supposed to believe that?!" Yoshi stood up. "Everything we did together wouldn't have happened if Peach hadn't given you that stupid dare!"

"I told you this because I love you! I felt so guilty for keeping this a secret..." Birdo felt her eyes welling up with tears.

"Why did you accept the dare in the first place?"

"I-I don't k-know..."

"Because you were so eager to 'break that loser's heart'? Well, if it makes you feel any better, just know that you've accomplished your goal. Go tell your insensitive friends about your accomplishment."

"You changed me for the better, ok? I appreciate that so much and that's why I stayed with you! Why do you think I didn't dump you after two months?"

"Because you wanted the breakup to affect me even more than it was supposed to." Yoshi began to leave the room.

"Yoshi, don't leave me! Please..." Birdo pleaded.

"I appreciate your honesty and all, Birdo. But, we all know that the truth hurts," Yoshi stood at the doorway. "What you just told me is enough to break us up. Why? Because everything we did together... None of it was genuine. We should live like we did before you asked me out. We're not dating and we're not friends. Because I'm just a gullible loser whose heart is good for breaking. That's all I am to you and your friends, right? Just try to forget about all of our memories together."

"It's not that easy!!!" Birdo yelled. But, it was too late. Yoshi had walked out of the room and out of their relationship.

*flashback over*

Birdo had that flashback every night and it made her so guilty that she always stayed up late thinking about it. This caused her to have a big lack of sleep and even bigger eyebags.  Of course, no one knew about Birdo’s depression because she always covered up the eyebags with concealer (concealer that was made for Birdos).

The amount of guilt Birdo had was getting bigger and bigger each day. She had to tell someone. Birdo texted Toadette, her closest friend. About five minutes later, Birdo read the messages she had typed rather quickly.

Birdo: dettie! ik you’re probably asleep now but i need to tell someone about a problem thats making me depressed.

Birdo: ive been trying so hard to move on from yoshi bc ik that some relationships arent meant to last forever. i guess my relationship w/ yoshi is one of them. but hes always on my mind and so is the flashback of how we broke up. dettie i cant take this anymore!!! i have insomnia bc the guilt is making me sleep less than i should! its like the more i wanna forget about our memories the more i end up remembering them! i still love him even if i dont wanna! pls don’t tell anyone about this. ugh i hate emotions sometimes. :(

Birdo fell backwards onto her bed and let herself zone out again.

Hope you liked that chapter! Sorry for the longer-than-usual wait! The next chapter should be umm... Interesting. Lol sorry for the short A/N. I don't really have much to say at the moment. Anyways pls add, comment, vote, etc. Thanks!
