18. It Can't Always Go Your Way
*one week later*
Bowser heard the school bell ring and knew he was late for his first class of the day. He casually strolled to his Math class and as soon as he opened the door, Ms. Paratroopa gave him an annoyed glance. “Mr. Koopa, please get a tardy slip from the office,” she spoke calmly. Ms. Paratroopa was never one to yell, but she could be pretty scary in her own ways… Not that Bowser found her scary.
“Sure,” Bowser went back out. Once he returned, he gave the tardy slip to the teacher and went to a seat Toad had reserved for him. Bowser noticed that Toad was looking quite distraught. “Dude, what’s wrong?” Bowser whispered.
“Do you think my party will go well?” Toad asked worriedly.
“Why wouldn’t it? It’s just you, Wario, Waluigi, DK, Diddy Kong, Peach, Birdo, Toadette, Dixie, and I. No dorks,” Bowser answered. Then, his facial expression changed. “Don’t tell me you’re planning to keep your parents around to ‘stop us from doing anything bad’. We’re freshmen, supervision is for little kids! Toad, please tell me there won’t be any adults there,” Bowser pleaded.
“Of course there won’t be adults at my party,” Toad replied. Bowser sighed with relief. “But, you’re wrong about there being no nerds,” Toad added quickly. Bowser’s jaw dropped.
“WHAT?!” he yelled, causing all of his classmates and the teacher to look at him. “Weren’t you just joking about that text?” Bowser whispered.
“No…” Toad said slowly.
“Gentlemen, what is concerning you?” Ms. Paratroopa asked them. “Is it in any way related to my current lesson?” Luckily, Bowser and Toad could always rely on each other to be good liars.
“Of course, ma’am,” Toad grinned. “He confused scientific notation with expanded notation.” Bowser nodded in agreement.
“Well, you should have learned expanded notation in 5th or 6th grade. Please listen to this lesson for your own good. Or if you want, I’ll give you a detention slip, Mr. Koopa,” Ms. Paratroopa then continued on with her lesson. Bowser shot Toad one last glare.
*at lunch*
“Dettie!” Peach squealed. “The pizza’s here!” Today was Toadette’s 14th birthday and since Peach’s family owned Goombolio’s, one of the most popular pizzerias in Toad Town, Peach brought 2 boxes of mixed flavor (½ Cheese Bonanza and the other ½ Pizza Explosion) and of course 4 boxes of Meat Lovers pizza, Toadette’s favorite flavor. In total, there were 6 square-cut pizzas waiting to be devoured by hungry teens. Peach brought all of this as a gift for Toadette. When the pizza was brought to the cafeteria, Toadette gasped.
“Thanks, Peach!” she exclaimed, hugging her friend. She kept 2 Meat Lovers pizzas for her table, gave the other two to the guy populars’ table, and had the two mixed ones left. Toadette, however, had an idea. “Girls, I’ll be right back,” she said. “Don’t finish the pizza without me.”
“What are you gonna do?” Peach questioned.
“I’ll just give these pizzas to the staff,” Toadette replied.
“You better not give any pizzas to the dorks,” Dixie said and Peach nodded in agreement.
“Of course I won’t,” Toadette laughed and left the table. She passed the nerds’ table on her way out of the cafeteria. Toadette slipped them a mixed pizza. And when they gave her confused looks, Toadette just winked at them and left to give her last box of pizza to the teachers. A few minutes later, Peach came by the nerds’ table. Yoshi grabbed the box of pizza and hid it under the table.
“Has Toadette given you weirdos any pizza?” Peach asked.
“Nope,” Luigi answered. Mario was gazing up at Peach and daydreaming about her.
*daydream*
Peach came to the table that Mario was in and slid into the seat next to him. “Hi, Mario,” she kissed him on the cheek. Mario’s heart began to beat way faster.
“Y-you smell n-nice,” he stuttered. Peach laughed.
“You’re gorgeous,” she leaned her head on Mario’s shoulder. Suddenly, everyone vanished, except for the two of them. Mario turned his head to kiss Peach…
*daydream over*
“Umm, why is he kissing air?” Daisy asked quietly.
“Probably another daydream about you know who,” Luigi shrugged.
“Should I snap him out of it?” Daisy offered.
“Sure,” Rosalina replied. Daisy leaned across the table and slapped Mario hard across his face. Suddenly, Mario’s eyes widened and he started hyperventilating.
“Do it again,” Boo told Daisy. Daisy slapped Mario again and he calmed down. Mario smiled at all of his friends.
“I can’t wait for the party,” Mario sighed happily. Then, he sighed and stared blankly. Suddenly, his eyes lit up. He turned to Daisy.
“I love you, Peach! I love you! Give me a kiss…” He leaned toward Daisy, puckering his lips. Daisy sighed and punched him in the face… Twice, just to make sure.
*a few minutes later*
“And that is why your classmate has a black eye and a bleeding nose?” Ms. Wiggler, the short-tempered lunchroom supervisor, asked.
“Um… yes ma’am.” Daisy said.
“THEN THAT’S TWO WEEKS OF DETENTION FOR YOU!” Ms. Wiggler screamed. She cleared her throat. “Ahem. I’ll notify the dean of students.” she finished calmly. Then, she left. Daisy just blinked, along with the other nerds.
Yoshi cleared the awkward silence. “I dibs bringing this home!” he pulled out the pizza from under the table.
*two days later*
Luigi: Wanna come over to study with Mario and I? We can go biking after. :)
This was the text Daisy woke up to on a fine Saturday morning. Her face lit up.
Daisy: Sure! Coming over in 20 mins.
Daisy got ready to leave very quickly and excitedly and tried not to think of this as a date, which it wasn’t.
*a few hours later*
“Let’s go biking now, my brain hurts,” Mario suggested.
“Sure,” Luigi said. “Let’s bike to Cooligan’s.” Cooligan’s was a slushie place and it would take around 30 minutes to bike there. Mario, Luigi, and Daisy strapped on their helmets, got onto their bikes and left the house. Once they got to Cooligan’s, they bought slushies. Mario bought a watermelon slushie, Luigi bought a blue raspberry slushie, and Daisy bought an orange slushie.
“I’m still wondering why you love orange-flavored things so much,” Mario laughed.
“I dunno… You shouldn’t question my favorites,” Daisy shrugged.
“Daisy is very unique, she doesn’t like soda either,” Luigi said. “Why should we be surprised?” The three teens went to sit in a bench outside Cooligan’s. Daisy felt Luigi’s arm touching hers and she casually shifted away. As Daisy sipped her slushie, she zoned out.
*flashback*
“Now, you can stand up and pick your partner for the field trip tomorrow!” Mrs. Toadley, the 6th grade History teacher said. The class was going to a museum to learn more about the history of the Mushroom Kingdom. Daisy headed toward Peach and Rosalina, only to find out that they were already partners. “Dai, now’s your chance to get paired up with you know who,” Peach whispered, nodding her head towards Luigi. Daisy’s face reddened.
“There’s no way I’m doing that,” Daisy shook her head. Suddenly, as Daisy turned around, she bumped into Luigi. “Oh, sorry!” she exclaimed.
“It’s ok,” he smiled. “I was gonna ask you to be my partner for the field trip.” Daisy looked behind her and noticed Peach motioning for her to say yes.
“Umm, sure,” Daisy replied.
“Cool, can’t wait for tomorrow,” Luigi then left to join Mario and Yoshi.
“Same here…” Daisy said, but mostly to herself.
*flashback over*
Rosalina was the cheer captain and Luigi was the MVP of the basketball team. What am I? Daisy wondered. Am I just a wallflower? Daisy had wanted to make a move on Luigi for about 3 years already but always backed off in shyness or fear… Fear that Luigi didn’t like her back. But, there was absolutely no way Luigi could like Daisy back because it was so obvious he loved Rosalina. Daisy was just scared of accepting the sad truth… She always tried to move on, but her heart would pull her back. What is it trying to tell her?
Meanwhile, Luigi was glancing at Daisy who seemed to be staring into space and absentmindedly drinking her slushie. It was actually kind of cute. Lately, Daisy had been quite pretty. Luigi then mentally slapped himself for thinking these thoughts. He was supposed to think of Daisy as a friend. But lately, Luigi had been very confused. He knew he loved Rosalina, but he couldn’t help but have these tiny feelings for Daisy, too. Luigi knew that Daisy was always unsure of her title or where she belonged and he wanted tell Daisy something as a very good friend- she may not be in any extracurricular activities or be acknowledged to the school as anything more than a student, but she was a really good friend to have… And that was why Luigi was kind of tempted to think of her as even more than one.
I hope you enjoyed reading this chapter! Well the title's kinda long but if you think about it a little it's still somewhat relevant to the chapter. I'll be out of town for the entire upcoming weekend so I won't be able to update. I'll try to update RWM&F and TLOM&F today or tomorrow. Well the chapter after this is something I've been planning for quite awhile already and it will be super dramatic. So I really hope you'll like that one too! Anyways pls add, comment, vote, etc. Thanks!
