*5 days later*

"Where's Boo?" Mario asked Daisy and Yoshi. The 4 teens were going to board a train in 2 minutes and Boo had still not arrived. Daisy and Yoshi looked at each other and started laughing.

"Guys!" Mario groaned. "It's not funny. If he doesn't come in-" Boo suddenly appeared in front of Mario.

"Hello," he grinned. Mario stumbled backwards into Yoshi, making both of them fall to the floor. Daisy and Yoshi started laughing even harder.

"Boo was already here," Yoshi told Mario. "He said to keep it a surprise for you."

"I'm not in the mood for jokes," Mario grumbled. "It's 3 am and I barely got any sleep."

"I didn't sleep at all," Daisy yawned. Soon, their train had arrived and Mario, Daisy, Yoshi, and Boo boarded it. The 4 friends took beds near the back of the train. "Welcome to Shy Guy Perplex Express, Train 19," a voice said through the speaker. "This ride will be 23 hours long. We will be getting off at the DK Summit Lodge Station. Food and drinks may be purchased in the dining car. No smoking, please. And thank you for riding with us." Daisy closed her curtain and went to sleep. almost immediately. After about five hours, breakfast was being served. Mario opened Daisy's curtain to wake her up, but started laughing. Daisy was a drooling, snoring mess. Her appearance was indescribably funny. He signaled for Yoshi and Boo to come over. Both of them cracked up when they saw Daisy. Mario, Yoshi, and Boo all took pictures of Daisy. Eventually, they woke her up. The four friends then went to the dining car to get breakfast. During breakfast, Mario sent a picture he took of Daisy to Luigi.

Luigi: Lol. Why did you take that?

Mario: Why not?

Luigi: If Daisy finds out that you took that... How do you think she will react?

Mario: I don't know because she'll never find out. :D

Luigi: I'm saving that photo into my camera roll. :)

Mario: Send it to Rosalina, too.

"Send what to Rosalina?" Daisy's voice startled Mario.

"Hey! Don't read my texts," Mario said. "It's an invasion of privacy."

"Fine," Daisy left the dining car since she was finished eating breakfast.

*at night*

"What time is it?" Yoshi asked Boo.

"It's almost 9," Boo replied, checking his phone. Then, he suddenly had a great idea. "Come with me," Boo told Yoshi. The two friends went to the engine room. "Hide outside the door," Boo whispered. "Make sure no one sees you." He gave Yoshi his phone. "Take a video of the conductor," he instructed. "Don't end the video til I signal you to." Yoshi nodded, unsure of what Boo was about to do. The conductor Toad headed to a mic on the right side of the small room. Yoshi adjusted the angle of the camera, so it was focused on the conductor and started the video.

"Test, test. In 5 minutes, we will begin to turn off the-" the conductor stopped mid-sentence because Boo, who was previously invisible, appeared right in his face. "It's a g-g-ghost! AHHHHH!!!" the conductor panicked and ran away. Boo started laughing and Yoshi's facial expression was almost as priceless as the conductor's. Boo nodded at the camera and Yoshi shakily ended the video. Boo exited the engine room.

"So, what did you think?" he asked Yoshi.

"That... That was horrible!" Yoshi exclaimed. "Why did you do that? Now, no one will know that the lights will be turned off in 5 minutes!"

"That announcement was unnecessary because the lights are already being turned off," Boo pointed out.

"But, still! You have to apologize," Yoshi crossed his arms.

"Chill, Yosh. It was just a prank," Boo replied.

"Poor conductor," Yoshi shook his head. "Let's join the others now."

*the next morning*

It was 1:30 am and the train was arriving at DK Summit in around half an hour. Mario and Boo stayed up to alert Daisy and Yoshi. Boo never slept, it was his lifestyle. Daisy and Yoshi were woken up.

"We're already here?" Daisy yawned.

"Almost," Boo responded. "Where are we gonna stay again?"

"My uncle's lodge," Mario replied. "Well, he's obviously also Luigi's uncle." Luigi and Rosalina were already there.

"Tell me about it," Boo said. "What's it like?" Boo was informed of the trip just one day in advance and didn't hear much details about the lodge.

"The last time Luigi and I went there was 8 years ago," Mario said. "It's got a shopping village and a ski hill. We're going there on Christmas Day. There's a good breakfast buffet and room service. Each room has a fireplace. Oh, and since Luigi and I are related to the lodge owner, we get one of the biggest rooms."

"Correction: two of the biggest  rooms. We're getting two rooms, since there's six of us. I think the groups are Mario, Weegee, and Rosie and Yosh, Boo, and I," Daisy added.

"Oh no, I'm with Boo," Yoshi said in fake horror, remembering the prank earlier. Boo laughed.

"Why?" Mario and Daisy questioned.

"He pranked the conductor," Yoshi answered simply. "He snuck up on him while he was talking on the mic."

"Oh, that must be why the conductor screamed, 'It's a g-g-ghost! AHHHHH!!!'" Mario laughed at the memory.

"Yeah," Boo grinned. "Scaring people is my hobby."

"Tell me something I don't know," Daisy replied. Soon, the train had arrived at DK Summit and all of the passengers got out of the train.

*on Christmas Day*

Siiilent night, hoooly night. Aaaall is calm, aaaall is-

Daisy lazily shut the alarm off. "Just five more minutes!" she groaned. Then, Daisy came to her senses and excitedly jumped up. "IT'S CHRISTMAS!" she yelled, throwing a pillow at Yoshi, who was still asleep.
"What the-?" Yoshi sputtered. "I'm not gonna give you your present if you do that!" Daisy ignored Yoshi and threw another pillow at him. "Get up!" she exclaimed. "It's Christmas!" Boo was just sitting at the breakfast bar, laughing at both Daisy and Yoshi. "It's 6:30 now. At 8, we'll go to Mario, Luigi, and Rosalina's room to exchange gifts. Let's start getting ready," Daisy ordered. She then rushed to the bathroom with her clothes before Yoshi or Boo could.

*an hour and a half later*

Daisy burst into the room."MERRY CHRISTM-" That's when she saw Luigi and Rosalina sleeping. In. The. Same. Bed. Daisy quickly looked at Yoshi and they made eye contact. And if you've been best friends with someone for more than 2 years, you kind of know what they're thinking sometimes. Yoshi's facial expression read, "Continue being happy. It's harder for others to notice that way." Daisy started smiling again, grabbed a pillow from the couch, and threw it at Luigi and Rosalina. "WAKE UP, LOVEBIRDS!" she exclaimed. "IT'S CHRISTMAS!" Rosalina sat up in bed. "Wow, you're hyper today," she said. Luigi also woke up.

"Hi, Daisy," Luigi yawned. "You have good aim." Daisy couldn't help but notice his adorably messy morning hair. She blushed and pretended to be fascinated with her outfit, so no one would see the color change in her cheeks.

"Let's exchange gifts already!" Boo said.

"Ok!" Mario agreed. Everyone sat down around the Christmas tree that had been set up.

*4 hours later*

"The shuttle's here!" Yoshi said to his friends. The 6 teens entered the large vehicle. Daisy was planning to take seats at the very back, but she saw that Luigi and Rosalina were also there. Daisy immediately turned around and went to a seat in the second row.

"Yoshi!" she called.

"What?" Yoshi asked.

"Sit with me," Daisy said, patting the seat next to her.

"Ok," Yoshi sat down beside Daisy. The shuttle started moving. Daisy was staring outside, her breath fogging up the window she was looking out of.

"I can't stand it anymore," Daisy finally turned to Yoshi after a few minutes.

"What can't you stand?" Yoshi asked.

"Every time I see Luigi, he's with Rosie," Daisy sighed. "Kissing, laughing, SLEEPING WITH HER."

"Are you doing anything about it?" Yoshi questioned.

"Well, I'm keeping my distance from Luigi," Daisy answered. "I don't know what else to do." Daisy glanced back at the couple. "See, they're whispering to each other now," she told Yoshi. Meanwhile, at the back of the shuttle, Luigi faced Rosalina to ask her something.

"Do you know what's up with Daisy?" he whispered.

"No... Why?" Rosalina asked.

"She's been ignoring me lately and I have no idea why," Luigi replied. "Is it something I did?"

"I don't know," Rosalina leaned against the window. "Maybe you should ask her." Soon, the shuttle had arrived at DK Summit itself. It was a very well-known place to go skiing and snowboarding. Mario, Luigi, Daisy, Yoshi, Boo, and Rosalina all got out of the shuttle and stepped out into the -20 degrees Celsius weather. Luigi, Boo, and Rosalina rented skis and Mario, Daisy, and Yoshi rented snowboards. "Guys, I have to confess something to you," Rosalina said when she and her friends were lining up to ride the ski lift.

"What?" everyone asked.

"I've never been skiing or snowboarding before..." Rosalina admitted.

"It's ok, just watch and learn first," Luigi suggested.

"Ok," Rosalina replied. After about 30 minutes of going up and down the large hill, Rosalina went to the bathroom. Daisy got onto a ski lift and to her dismay, Luigi was siting next to her. There wasn't an awkward silence because right away, Luigi turned to Daisy.

"Daisy, I'm gonna ask you something and you better be honest about it," Luigi said.

"What?" Daisy asked, not at all sure what to expect.

"Why haven't you been talking to me lately?" Luigi looked at Daisy's eyes.

"Umm..." Daisy tried to think of a good excuse. "Really?"

"Yeah, it's like you want to be away from me all of a sudden," Luigi replied. "Like earlier, in the shuttle, you were heading to the seats at the back, but when I got there, you went to sit somewhere else."
"Oh, that?" Daisy fake-laughed. "I just decided I wanted to sit near the front. I wasn't trying to avoid you or anything."

"But, tell me the truth. Did I ever do anything to you that made you start to give me the silent treatment?" Luigi asked.

"No, you didn't do anything," Daisy lied.

"Are you sure?"

"Yeah."

"If you say so." If only he knew, Daisy thought.

*an hour and a half later*

"Guys, we have one hour left to ski or snowboard," Mario announced. "So, I have an idea."

"What?" everyone asked.

"Follow me," Mario said. The friends walked for about 5 minutes then came to another route to go down. This one had several obstacles, such as trees and large rocks. "So, until the end of the session we paid for, we will go down this route."

"Umm, can I sit this one out?" Rosalina asked, glancing nervously at the deserted route. "And no one's here. Are we allowed to do this?"

"Yeah, it's just that everyone else is too chicken," Mario said honestly. "And you can sit out, but you'll be missing the fun."

"Pshaw," Boo said. "Those obstacles are nothing for me. I can go through them."

"But, your skis won't," Luigi pointed out.

"Oh, right," Boo replied, slightly embarrassed.

"Umm, guys..." Daisy said slowly. Mario also looked behind him and was really surprised at what he saw. Soon, the others turned around and saw Peach and Bowser arguing. Bowser was carrying a snowboard and Peach was in a giant fur coat and was basically not wearing the right outfit for skiing or snowboarding. The group casually moved a bit closer to Peach and Bowser to eavesdrop on their conversation.

"Why did you even wear that stuff?" Bowser asked. "You did realize we were going to DK Summit, right?"

"I came here for shopping and a luxurious lodge!" Peach snapped.

"Why don't you stop being lazy and try something cool for once?" Bowser said.

"Excuse me? Are you trying to tell me that my fashion sense isn't cool?" Peach edged closer to Bowser.

"Well, I'm tired of seeing you do the same things over and over again!"

"You can't force me to do anything that I don't want to do. I'll just watch you go down some hill and come back up." Bowser gave up and left to try a route. Peach glanced at a familiar-looking crowd of people nearby and raised an eyebrow. The 6 friends quickly looked away when they felt Peach's gaze land onto them. They thought she didn't recognize them. Mario, Luigi, Daisy, Yoshi, Boo, and Rosalina shuffled away from Peach.

"Ok, who's brave enough to go first?" Mario asked the group.

"... I can," Daisy said. She got onto her snowboard and looked back at her friends with a smile. Then, Daisy disappeared down the steep hill.

"Maybe we should stay up here until she returns," Boo suggested. The others agreed and waited for Daisy. Several minutes later, Daisy returned.

"That. Was. Awesome!" she grinned.

"Yoshi, wanna go next?" Luigi turned to Yoshi.

"No, you guys can go before me. I wanna be last," Yoshi answered.

"You sure?"

"Yeah."

"Alright, is it ok if I go next?" Luigi looked pretty excited to try out the route. Everyone nodded. Then, Luigi sped off down the hill.

*20 minutes later*

"That was..." Mario stumbled forward towards his friends. "That was the most fun I've had in a long time. Ok Yoshi, it's your turn."

"Alright," Yoshi gripped his snowboard tightly. Peach sneaked a glance at Mario, Luigi, Daisy, Yoshi, Boo, and Rosalina. She hated that they were having so much fun. It was time to change that. Peach moved closer to the hill, but not close enough that the dorks noticed her. She had a plan. And there was only one opportunity left for the plan to take place.Yoshi took a deep breath and started down the hill. It was enjoyable. It was fast. Yoshi went through the first few obstacles with ease. Then, Yoshi heard a faint voice behind him.

"Look behind you!" the voice called out. Yoshi didn't know what to expect to see behind him or why he even looked back, but for some reason, he did. There was nothing unusual... When Yoshi looked forward again, he was heading straight for a big rock and it was too late to avoid it. His snowboard skidded to a stop as soon as it hit the rock, causing Yoshi to fly into the air. Unlike most people's experiences, this moment was not in slow-motion. Yoshi didn't have a lot of time to react, but he tried to make sure he landed on his feet. Unfortunately, Yoshi wasn't a cat. As soon as his feet touched the snow-covered ground, he heard a crunch.
