10. I Can't Move On
*the next day, after school*
"Peach, I was looking for you," Birdo said, walking into the girls bathroom. She saw Peach brushing her perfect-as-usual blonde hair.
"Uhh, why?" Peach asked.
"You owe me," Birdo answered. "100 coins."
"Why?" Peach questioned, slightly annoyed. Then, she remembered. "Oh, yes, it has been over 2 months. So, will you stop?"
"No, not anytime soon," Birdo replied. "That's why you owe me."
"Alright," Peach said, digging into her wallet and giving Birdo 100 coins.
"Thanks," Birdo said. Peach did not keep promises very often.
"Whatever, I'm just surprised you're not giving up yet," Peach laughed. The two friends walked out of the bathroom and went their own ways. Peach luckily did not forget that she would be walking home with Daisy, so she went to find her. Peach found Daisy organizing her locker. "Gosh, why do you spend so much time organizing your locker? No matter what you do, it'll look ugly... Like a loser owns it!" Peach said, getting Daisy's attention. Peach would never admit it, but Daisy's locker was the neatest one she had ever seen.
"Why, thank you!" Daisy replied sarcastically.
"Hey, look on the bright side. At least your locker is a goddess compared to you," Peach started twirling her hair right on the spot. Daisy looked a bit hurt, but shook it off.
"Well, unlike someone I know, I have more important things to care about than my looks," she said. Peach rolled her eyes and accompanied Daisy to a nearby vending machine. When Daisy got a chocolate bar- her favorite kind, to be exact- Peach snatched it from her.
"What's wrong with you? You're so fat already!" Peach exclaimed. Daisy became confused. Peach had never called her fat before. But, Daisy didn't think she was, so she ignored the comment and let Peach eat the chocolate bar.
"I don't know. Maybe you should ask yourself," Daisy muttered.
"What?" Peach blinked, not hearing what Daisy said.
"Ask yourself what's wrong with you," Daisy said. "Stop acting like you're perfect because you're not! Sure, you're a beauty queen, but the personality of a perfect girl is NOTHING like yours!"
"You're just jealous," Peach rolled her eyes. Daisy sighed. Why was I ever friends with her? she thought. Oh, that's right. Because Peach used to be different. Way different, personality-wise. The two girls finally left the school building and started their walk to Peach's house. Dixie came with them because she and Peach always walked home together, after school. Peach and Dixie started talking about things like "what's hot and what's not", while Daisy kept quiet. She was enjoying not being bothered by Peach and Dixie, but of course, that had to end. Peach stuck her foot out in front of Daisy and Daisy, being the clumsy freak that she is, face-planted on the sidewalk. And it hurt.
"Omg, good one, Peach!" Dixie exclaimed, laughing more than she needed to. Peach and Dixie continued walking, leaving Daisy behind. Daisy got up and had to run to catch up to them. Soon, the three girls were in front of Dixie's house. "Bye, Peach!" Dixie said. "Text me later, kay?" But, before leaving, she turned to Daisy. "By the way, did you get your outfit from a dump?" Dixie laughed and headed to her house, not waiting for an answer. Daisy rolled her eyes. Dixie could answer her own question if she put some thought into it. Well, Dixie wasn't very smart, after all. Soon, Peach and Daisy arrived at Peach's house. Daisy looked around and immediately recognized most of the place. She remembered coming here all the time.
*flashback*
It was June 8, otherwise known as Best Friends Day. Daisy was going to Peach's house for more than one reason. She wanted to see Peach's new house and Peach was also sick. Daisy was eager to see her best friend because Peach was absent from school. Daisy kind of already knew where to go because according to the address Peach had texted her, the house was not too far away from the park where she and Peach always met up. Daisy found the house easily. When she entered Peach's house, she gasped. It was the prettiest house Daisy had ever seen, in and out. It was also very big. It looked like a house a celebrity would own! Daisy imagined what Peach's room would look like. She was sure that Peach's room would be about twice the size of her own room! Daisy found a maid Toad cleaning the marble floor. "Excuse me," Daisy said. "I'm Peach's friend. Where is Peach's room?"
"It's on the third floor, first room to the right," the Toad replied.
"Thanks!" Daisy headed up the spiral staircase. Third floor?! Daisy thought. My house only has two floors! Peach's room was everything Daist thought it would be... And more. Daisy found Peach lying down in bed, playing games on her mPhone. She looked up when Daisy came in.
"Dai!" Peach grinned, her voice slightly raspy.
"Peach!" Daisy smiled, sitting at the edge of Peach's bed. "I love your new house!"
Thanks!" Peach said and coughed afterwards. She sighed sadly. "It really sucks that I have to be sick on Best Friends Day," Peach took a sip from her glass of water. "This is for you," she gave Daisy a small jewelry box. Daisy opened it and took out a half-heart necklace.
"This is pretty," she smiled, putting it around her neck. "Thanks."
"No problem," Peach replied. Then, her eyes widened. "Uhh, I think I need to throw up," Peach mumbled and rushed to the bathroom. When she came back, Daisy gave her something.
"I made this for you," Daisy gave Peach a 6-page long essay titled "My Best Friend". "Approximately 2100 words," Daisy added.
"Oh my gosh, thanks!" Peach hugged her friend. I hope this friendship lasts forever, Daisy thought as a smile crossed her lips.
*flashback over*
But, it didn't. The friendship didn't last forever. But, that was back in 5th grade. It had been over 2 years since Daisy last came here. And Peach's house was as beautiful as before. When they got settled in Peach's room, Daisy explained her ideas and what they needed and stuff like that to Peach. Jeez, did she memorize some sort of speech or something? Peach thought. "Ok, then," Peach said. "Do it."
"What?" Daisy blinked.
"Do everything yourself. Do you really expect me to do anything?" Peach examined her manicured fingers.
"Well, yeah. Unless you want to fail," Daisy replied.
"Don't worry, I have my ways," Peach smirked. Daisy didn't know what Peach meant, so she just ignored the last statement. Daisy remembered when Peach was an optimist that hardly cried and who did what she knew was right. The Peach who was considerate about others' feelings and wasn't an attention hog. The Peach who never judged. And Daisy missed that Peach.
*earlier, during the lunch break*
Mario, Luigi, and Yoshi were at their lockers, which were all right next to each other. Suddenly, two very well-known guys came over to them. "Have you guys ever wanted to be popular?" Wario asked the trio.
"Not really...?" Mario said as if he were asking a question. Luigi and Yoshi shrugged.
"You sure? Because we sure have an oppurtunity for you!" Waluigi grinned. Mario became curious.
"Really? What?" he asked.
"The payment? Come to our house today at 4 pm," Waluigi answered. "You remember where it is, right?" The trio had been to Wario and Waluigi's house a few times before. Mario, Luigi, and Yoshi nodded.
"I don't think this is a good idea..." Yoshi whispered to Mario. Mario ignored his friend.
"We'll be there!" he declared. Suddenly, Waluigi made a great show of holding his neck and coughing.
"Oh no! You are sick!" Wario said in a very fake tone, but nevertheless, the nerds were convinced that this was real. "I'll take you to the... Umm..." he stared at his hand, which he had written what he was going to say on. "Oh, yes, I'll take you to the hospital!" Wario carried his brother and ran away.
"Shouldn't you just take him to the school clinic?" Luigi called. But, Wario and Waluigi were already gone.
"They left school without permission," Yoshi said. "Oh, and Mario? What about our other friends?"
"Who cares? This is our chance to become popular!" Mario grinned. Luigi face-palmed. His brother was so easily convinced.
"We can't just ditch our friends!" Yoshi exclaimed.
"This is what happened to Daisy," Luigi added. "We can't just ditch our friends... And my girlfriend!"
"Chill, guys!" Mario said. "We'll cross that bridge when we get to it."
"But, I still don't think this is a good idea," Luigi told his older twin brother.
"It'll be fine, trust me," Mario replied. Luigi and Yoshi looked at each other doubtfully, but decided to go along with Mario.
What do you think will happen at Wario and Waluigi's house? Did you like this chapter? And there's only 2 days until my birthday! Tbh this book is kinda both realistic and unrealistic... Anyways pls add, comment, vote, etc. Thanks!
