Exhibit E - Oculus Bruce
This gallery's first exhibit is the second-ever Bruce written by Zenina i.e. the Oculus Bruce. Describing this Bruce in a few words; he is the Tired Dad who's Living-in-Guilt Bruce. Expected since the timeline this story is set in focuses on Jay's return from the dead.
Portrayed by: Christian Bale
Background: Same origin story as well as the order of the adopted kids plus one demon child. The timeline for the story is after Jay's resurrection so at the beginning, he has just adopted Tim and Damian too comes later on in the story.
Alias: Batman
Age: 40 onwards
Current Status: Alive
Eye color: Pale Blue
Hair color and type: Dark brown hair, styled.
Skin color: Fair
Height: 6'0"
Love Interest: Not mentioned in the story.
Hobbies: Also not mentioned in the story. Though I would assume it's gonna be something boring; like organizing paperwork, studying case files, and maybe a little bit of book reading or something sports related. I could hardly care less.
Personality: According to this tiny interview I did with our evil author here, by Oculus she had a fair idea of how to write Bruce and the one thing she focused on was to write Bruce only when it was extremely necessary. However, we do see a lot of chapters focusing on Bruce so somewhere along the way she gave in and decided to incorporate him as well.
The prominent personality facts about him are as follows:
• As I mentioned maybe twice earlier, this Bruce is constantly living in guilt over Jason's death. But that's not the only regret he has had. Apparently, he feels guilty over Joker turning into the Joker as well but that's a story for another time.
• He keeps up the emotionless facade even though deep down, he goes through emotional turmoils almost every day. He feels guilty over Jason, he's worried Tim (aka me, I love it when I get to make an appearance in the story) might meet a similar fate, etc, etc.
• The first half of the story is all action, action, action so we don't really get to see B's personality shine through.
• What we do see is that he is heavily guided by his *figerquotes* moral compass, and he can not bring himself to take the life of a criminal, not even if he killed his son.
• In other words, he feels if he resorts to such measures, he will lose himself to the darkness or whatever stupid excuse that is.
• Ah okay, this Bruce is somewhat sentimental too. His inner monologues almost made me shed a tear.
• Also, I know it's dumb but when it comes to his personal problems, he feels that if he ignores the situation for long enough, it will magically disappear.
• When Damian came to Gotham in his story, Bruce again had a hell of a problem to deal with but he chose to ignore it in hopes of it magically disappearing. But that backfired and as a result, everyone is still stuck with the gremlin.
• One thing I like about this Bruce is that he might not show that he cares for his kids but there are some scenes of him silently accepting that.
There was one scene that is my favorite in particular in chapter 22 when the Tim of this story fell asleep with his head resting on Bruce's shoulder while explaining a report to him. Apparently, whenever Bruce would be working on case files, any of the children would come and cuddle next to him and he would not tell them off.
• One time, Jason called him an audacious hypocrite. The reason, me (no more spoilers, go check the story out if you're curious).
• He's not good at apologizing although he tries.
• I think his greatest fear would be losing all of his family members due to his mission of protecting Gotham as Batman.
Theme Song: What I've Done by Linkin Park
Yikes... The guilt strikes hard here but cool song nevertheless. Let's head to the next exhibit.
