Chapter 6

Uncle Larry had once again called in a favour with McPhee, who happily let us in the museum.

Unfortunately, this night would be the last night the New York exhibits would come to life at sunset, as the British exhibits would be going back to England the next day.

I kept up my act of disbelief throughout the day so one, we could go back to the museum, and two, I could see Ahk. Although it was selfish, Ahk was a cool guy, and I wanted more answers about his magic tablet. When he spoke about his tablet, how it had come to have powers, and how the tablet worked, he spoke so passionately.

I was beginning to develop a crush on Ahk. I came to terms with it as soon as I stepped outside the museum doors. I knew I could never do anything about it; Ahk was a mummy who'd been dead for a very long time, and our religious views differed drastically, so my family would definitely have disowned me if I had even considered Ahk an option.

With that in mind, I entered the museum, still acting as if Uncle Larry and Nick were insane, when truly, I believed them wholeheartedly. I simply had a mind to come back, and acting the part of the unbelieving niece was how I planned to do it. At first, it was a long shot, but it paid off, because I was standing inside the museum.

We waited on the exhibits to wake up before exploring. Uncle Larry took me through the exhibits, giving me an in-depth explanation as to the reason I was wrong. Nick went off to play with the dinosaurs, so it was just Larry and I.

Lancelot tagged along eventually, followed by La, Dexter, Jed, and Octavius. Attila found Larry and whisked him away, leaving me with La, Jed, Lancelot—whom I had dubbed Lance—, and Octavius. Dexter had a thing for Larry, so naturally, they went off with Attila together.

Lancelot was preoccupied with telling me tales of knights, Kings, Queens, dragons, and the holy grail. Jed and Octavius, who were perched on his shoulder, groaned and moaned out of annoyance at every little thing he said. La eventually left when Tilly came along, most likely bored with us.

"Man, you're giving me a real headache!" Jed exclaimed, rubbing his temples as Lancelot told the tale of the lovely Guinevere and how she was incomparable to me. I was flattered, of course, that the knight had become so taken with me, however, it was getting to be a bit too much flattery.

"Lance, how about you tell me of your life? What was it like to crusade, and what was it like to search for the Holy Grail?" I asked, simply to get him off the topic of my hair, my eyes, my breathtaking allure, and so forth. Fortunately, Ahk came by and managed to pull me away from Lance and his torrent of tales.

Once again, I asked Ahk about his tablet, and he happily replied.

I watched as his brow furrowed, his hands made gestures, and his mouth moved while he spoke. Then, he stopped while in the middle of a sentence.

"What is it?" I asked, worried that something had happened.

"It's your eyes. They gleam when you look at me," he said. I rose an eyebrow in confusion. What was he on about? Ahk simply smiled as he rolled his eyes, shaking his head.

"It's nothing bad, I can assure you. It was something I simply observed," he spoke. Crap. Perhaps he had just uncovered my small crush? It seemed not to be so, as he said nothing else on the matter.
