Introduction: My Curiosity
A/n: am I ever going to stop using LOONA girls as my character's faceclaims?
"Now, let me get this straight—"
Jinsol looked upon her close friend, Haneul, whom walked backwards in front of her. A quizzical expression was on her face, as she held up her index finger.
"You have this big major project that is due in three weeks." Haneul held up two fingers. "In which you know will take you a shit ton of time to plan, make, and edit." Three fingers. "You haven't got a clue on what to do yet." Four. "And yet, even though you can have partners for the project and you decide to do it solo?"
Haneul came to a halt, causing Jinsol to stagger. With a frown to her lips, the short-haired girl smacked her friend's arm. "Are you dumb? You're asking for death at this point, Jinny!" Haneul screeched, her brows knitted together in frustration. "I get it, you're a professional with your camera and you're a whiz at editing your videos but this is really pushing it."
Kim Jinsol loved being a media production major.
It was a dream of hers to create something beautiful, to capture something beautiful, and share something beautiful to others. A video camera in hand, she recorded everything that caught her eye and she filmed with such finesse. With her youthful mind, she pushed herself to learn about the filming world.
Music videos, dramas, movies; they all fascinated her. Not so with the plot, but with the way they were filmed. The angle, the composition, the lighting. All these factors come together to create something amazing and pleasing to the eye. One wrong move in any of these factors can break the whole experience.
And that interested Jinsol so much.
She was a girl that gazed upon her surroundings with wonder. She stared at the environment far too long, wondering how her camera could catch it in a flattering way. She spent her free time learning how to edit her videos, to make them more beautiful.
Jinsol even has her own YouTube channel, where she posts her videos to. She only had it initially just to keep the made videos she cherished all in one place. She didn't expect much from it, however, after a couple years, she was able to gain a decent amount of subscribers, people who commented in her skill for filming.
She didn't care if she was an editor, a producer, a camerawoman, or a mere stagehand doing all the heavy lifting. All Jinsol wanted was to be a part of something that will help spark joy and pleasure for others in a form of visuals. That was all she wanted. And thus, being a media production major brought her so much delight, as she was open to a whole new world to experience. She was able to expand and widen her horizons when she started her college career.
And she realized there was so much more to push herself through to show that she could make it in that world.
This was just another step to challenge herself.
But maybe, Jinsol really screwed herself over with this one.
"Aigoo, I get you're a year older than me and such, but sometimes I feel like I have to take care of you," Haneul huffed, her cheek blown up out of her own agitation on the situation. She turned her heel and continued down the pathway. "The gods really blessed you by having us be dorm mates! How did you even survive the year before I came in, huh?"
Jinsol picked up her pace to catch up with her friend, grabbing her arm to stop her again. "If you really want to take care of me, you can help me on this."
Haneul let out a sigh, giving the older a look. "As if that wasn't already an option. Don't you worry your little pigtails! Of course the reliable Yoon Haneul will help you." She grasped onto her hands, batting her eyelashes in a exaggerated manner. "Truly, Kim Jinsol, you've been saved by the gods to have us meet! Can you just imagine if you had dormed with an engineering major instead? You'd be hiding in a ditch somewhere, wondering why you made such a horrid decision with this project!"
"Stop with the lecture, will you? I get enough of the yapping from my classes," Jinsol sneered, nudging the other's side. "Just be supportive! Professor Lin said that this project can help us land an internship in a major broadcasting station! Can you even imagine?"
"Why, yes, Jinny, I can, because it's what I want too," Haneul huffed. The two of them continued down the pathway, their destination just within their sights. Jinsol sheepishly grinned at the younger girl, as if she just then remembered how the other wanted to be a newscaster. "I mean, if you pull this off, I'm 100% sure you'll get that internship!"
"Don't forget I'm competing with so much sunbaes, and they always only choose one or two people."
It was another obstacle of hers to face. As someone with enough experience and teacher's recommendation, Jinsol had been able to take an advanced videography class a year earlier than most students. The 99-liner had been doing great in that class too, but so has everyone else. Jinsol had to admit, there were a lot of talented, creative minds in her class, so the competition was definitely high on this. As the youngest person that got in through recommendations, everyone expected so much from her.
Of course, the pressure terrified her. Jinsol wanted to do exceedingly well for this final project, not only for them but for herself. To show herself that she had the strength to do whatever she put her mind to.
"A big ole yikes on that one. Who was the one that always gives you the stink eye, again?"
Jinsol sighed. "Nari-sunbae."
"Ah, yes. Her. That's the bitch. Wouldn't it be great to snatch that internship right from under her nose?" Haneul clapped her hands together in excitement. Her eyes were twinkling at the very thought of this dastardly plan. Jinsol had to admit, this kind of nature to the younger girl scared her when they first met. But, she respected this attitude now. "Man, wouldn't that be great?"
"As delightful as that sounds, I can't beat anyone without an idea in mind."
"Right. But surely—" The two college girls reached their desired place, their favorite tea shop, which was a ten minute walk away from their dorm. "A nice refreshing milk tea can brew up some interesting ideas?"
Jinsol let out a giggle. "It's worth a shot." They entered the spacious shop, the subtle aroma of tea hitting their noses. Jinsol always felt at peace in the shop ever since she first discovered it in her first year of college. The baristas always made her drinks so delicious in a kind attitude, and the ambience of the space was so relaxing. Her and Haneul would frequently come by the shop for their much craved drinks, as well as do homework and study whenever they don't want to be cooped up in their dorm. They've swung by much more lately as the spring semester was nearing its end, as well as the summer weather hanging idly by.
Fortunately, it was a shop that not a lot of their fellow classmates go to, as there were closer tea shops around campus. There was always just a selected few that Haneul and Jinsol would recognize, and became fair acquaintances to.
This tea shop was their safe space.
And hopefully, today, be their chamber of inspiration.
Jinsol ordered her usual mango green milk tea with less ice, while as Haneul ordered a chocolate milk tea with boba and egg pudding in it. Once getting their drinks, they settled themselves in their favorite spot, a table at the corner of the room. It was next to a grand window that overlooked the small park across the street. Jinsol slipped out her small, mint-colored notebook from her backpack, as well as her four-colored retractable pen. This was her time to scribble down any possible ideas, whether it be good or bad. That's how she always start her planning process.
"Okay, Jinny, what are some elements you want to really show through with your video?" Haneul asked straight away after taking a long-awaited sip of her chocolatey drink.
Jinsol leaned back in her chair, thinking back to the guidelines her professor made for this project. "Well, it needs to tell a story someway or another, like it tells the viewer some kind of information. Not sure what I'm trying to say, but I just know I want to showcase some pretty scenery."
"That is your expertise, I suppose," Haneul muttered. "Then, I guess we need to figure out some plotline then? Are you going to be acting in it?"
Jinsol poked at her cheeks, a habit she does whenever she goes into deep thought. "I could, depending on what story we're telling. Do you want to be my actress?"
Haneul cracked a smile. "If I have the time. You forget that I'm a girl taking a lot of pre-course classes. You know how math takes up all of my brainpower. Like, what's the point in it? I'm sure I won't be using it for my career anyway." She took yet another vigorous sip, which lead her to already be halfway done with her drink. "I'll still help you as much as I can, though. We can also ask some of the other girls in our dormitory! They'd probably love it if they were on camera."
Jinsol nodded, agreeing to that statement.
Her honey-colored eyes bore into the blank lined page before her. She let her mind wander, but nothing came. She wanted the blame the hot weather, as the heat was melting her brain to mush. Jinsol always felt sluggish and uninspired in the summer. However, today, the temperature was surprisingly and delightfully lower, so she can't really put any blame to that lame excuse.
Seriously, what can she do?
Her mind has come up blank. If she doesn't think up of something fast, then she might not have enough time to film and edit this project.
A small squeal caught Jinsol's attention. It was none other than Haneul, whose focus was no longer at her predicament, but at something on her phone. If Jinsol had to guess, the younger was now scrolling through Twitter.
Haneul could feel the piercing glare before she peered up and met Jinsol's eyes. "Yah, I'm doing some research, you know! There might be something good that springs up from my Twitter feed."
"All there is on that feed is idols, Haneul. You can't fool me," Jinsol grumbled out, unimpressed.
Don't get the pigtailed girl wrong. She enjoyed and admired her fair share of idol groups, mostly those with well-produced, eye-catching music videos. However, this wasn't the time to have her daily gush about how good on their oppas and unnies looked.
"Ugh, oh my god, Jinny, just look at this!" Haneul was quick to showing the pictures on her phone. It didn't take Jinsol much to process who the boys in the pictures were. They were shots of the eleven boys of Wanna One performing for their newest comeback, Light. "Just look at Jinyoung! He looks so so handsome," the girl squeaked before covering her lips to refrain herself for even more screaming. She then scrolled to the next picture, in which Jinsol's bias popped up. "And then Minhyun-oppa too! Are we blessed or are we blessed?"
Jinsol swooned at the picture.
Damn, curse Haneul for bringing up attractive boys.
"As much as I love staring at Hwang Minhyun's beauty, I don't think it's helping us much on my dilemma."
"Doesn't Minhyun-oppa spark anything within you?" Haneul questioned, her hands swaying for emphasis. "Let him be your inspiration. Your muse, as you will!"
Jinsol gave a deadpanned look. "The only thing that sparks within me is the feeling of loneliness I get when I snap out of my daydream and realize that he isn't my boyfriend."
The two girls shared a small chuckle, until Haneul let out a deep gasp. Jinsol flinched in surprise at her friend's sudden change in emotion. "Make a boyfriend video thing!" Haneul proclaimed, slamming her hands down on the table due to her excitement. "You know how idols make those kinds of videos where they pretend to be holding hands with the viewer and the camera shoots them in first person? Why not make something like that? But like, you can fully incorporate your scenery shots and have it be like you're going on dates. It would be so cute! And, maybe even add an angsty scene? I don't know, film it in the rain or something. You have control on how the setting sets the mood with this!"
Haneul stared at Jinsol expectedly, hoping for a positive reaction over her spontaneous idea. Jinsol processed it in her mind, and the more she thought about it, the more the idea seemed fun to do. She could write out an actual plot and go from there.
"Is it a nay or yay? I will not accept this silence as your answer," the younger huffed out.
Jinsol rolled her eyes at the pushiness, but she had to smile. "For now, it's a yay."
"Yay!" They both cheered, giving each other a hi-5. Jinsol happily took a sip of her drink, humming in delight at the tasty sweet flavor. It was then Haneul piped up again, with a comment she would have preferred to hear later.
"You know, this means you gotta find a boy to act in your video."
"Well, thanks for killing the mood. Maybe, I have to change it." Jinsol hummed, poking more on her soft cheeks. "Make it a girlfriend series?"
A solemnness crossed Haneul's face. "I mean, I guess."
"Ah, I see." Jinsol gave a fake pout. "You want me to make this video to tend to your boyfriendless needs. How sneaky of you!"
"That's not how it is but... you know what, maybe it is!" A guttural groan left the younger's lips. "We gotta find a cute boy willing to act in your video then! Come on, do it for the sake of all the single ladies~" Haneul then snapped her fingers as a thought popped up. "Don't you have this one cute sunbae in your class?"
A pang shot through her at the mention. "You must be talking about Taewoon-sunbae," Jinsol mumbled lowly.
"That's the one! Why not ask him?"
The idea of it struck a cord in her. Jinsol may have had a small crush on the sunbae that was two years older than her. He had such fantastic videos and a kind heart to add to it. The way he smiled made Jinsol's heart flurry. However, ever since he began dating the class's top bitch, Nari, that crush went down the drain.
"Don't you remember I told you that he and Nari are dating now? There's no way he'd help me," Jinsol frowned. "Plus, he got his own project to do with Nari."
"Oh yeah... shame, that sunbae has such poor taste in women." Before Jinsol knew it, Haneul had finished her drink, along with the boba, in one go. The younger then picked up her phone again, her fingers tapping rapidly on the screen. "Whatever, surely, a male classmate of ours can help out."
"Oh please. Maybe this idea was too good to be true. We should probably think of something else."
"Well, Jinny, you can try to think of another idea while I try to see in my contacts if we got a good contender..."
Just like five minutes earlier, Jinsol felt defeated again, her brain not being useful at the moment. And her dear friend doesn't seem like she will be much help from this point. Her eyes drifted to the window, her view on the park. It was a sunny day, a lot of people walking about to savor the nice weather.
It was then something there caught her eye.
A cute dog.
A big golden retriever at that. Jinsol's eyes twinkled at the sight of the cute dog with its little tongue sticking out. If anything, this was the only kind of distraction she would allow herself to make.
The owner and the dog had stopped as a trio of boys approached them. It was honestly a sight as the boys openly showed their adoration for the playful dog. It was so cute that Jinsol couldn't help but smile brightly at. She could clearly see the enthusiastic and joyful faces of the three boys as the dog showered them with love.
As if on automatic, she picked out her phone from the pocket of her bag and had to take a small video of the precious scene before her. The owner was telling the boys something, it seemed the older man was mentioning all the tricks the dog could do, as the boys began to shake the dog's paw. They did a couple more tricks and continued patting the lovable retriever's head.
Jinsol was so engrossed in her video of the dog, she didn't realize someone looking right at her. It had been a good two minutes until she saw the pair of eyes looking suspiciously at her through her small phone screen. A squeak left her lips as her eyes picked up to look at the very boy across the street. One of the three boys was staring directly at her. Jinsol could see him clearly. His black hair was long to the point it curtained just a little over his doe-like eyes. His head tilted as he looked at her. Quizzical and confused was written over his face.
The girl cursed under her breath and fumbled to stop the recording on her phone. She dropped her head, and turned away so he couldn't see her face.
Goodness.
How could she be so careless? That boy must think she's a creep! She really had to stop doing that. And he must've seen what she looked like. If Jinsol could make out his features at that short a time, then he definitely saw hers.
"Uh, Jinny?"
"Can you check if he's still looking here?" Jinsol peeked through her fingers at her friend, who had fully swerved to look out the window out of curiosity. "Don't make it so obvious, idiot!"
"Who are you talking about? I don't see anyone out there?"
At her words, Jinsol glimpsed out the window to the spot where she had seen the boys and the dog. Just as Haneul implemented, there was now no one there. In fact, she could see the owner and the dog continuing their walk down the pathway. The three boys were no where to be seen. She let out a thankful sigh, she guessed she was off the hook this time.
"Jinny?"
"It's nothing. Nothing at all." Jinsol took a sip of her drink to avoid the topic. Once she set her drink back down, she faked a smile over at her friend. "D-Did you find a cute boy for the video?"
Haneul scoffed. "None at all. It's a damn shame."
At this, Jinsol closed her notebook despite only writing about the one idea. "I think I'm done for today. All this thinking about the project is starting to make my brain hurt."
"It's good not to overload yourself with such things. Let's watch a drama together while we're here then. A new episode of What's Wrong With Secretary Kim is out. Maybe watching it can give you even more ideas." Haneul was already taking out her laptop from her bag to set on the table. The moment it turned on, the screen was already on the website where they would watch their dramas on. With a plug of the earphone, Haneul offered one piece to Jinsol to use.
Fine.
It's good to not stress too much over the idea. She did have time. Surely, another great idea with come to her soon enough. Kim Jinsol always finds a way to persevere without asking for too much help.
Let's also forget about that one boy too.
He was someone he would never see again anyway. There's no reason to worry about him.
Right?
A/n: you all can probably guess who that particular boy was that caught Jinsol recording ;) And even the other two boys that he was with~ No worries, they'll have their introductions in the next chapter!
I typed this chapter quite fast, I was surprised, haha! But, maybe because I have a more solid plotline for me to follow.
Please give this a bit of love and share with those who may be interested! It makes me sad that I barely see much stories about Hendery. So, if you guys know of any to recommend, please let me know! I'm itching to read some.
Until the next chapter then!
