Chapter 3: My Caretaker
The next few days have been smooth sailing... surprisingly.
Jinsol learned that Kunhang could act because he had gone to an acting academy. It must be all her luck for her to find the boy when she did. Kunhang listened to her every direction and suggestion; taking everything with detail as well as discuss his opinions about the scenes. He was honestly the perfect actor; they worked together in harmony.
She was so thankful.
The shots she had gotten already with Kunhang have all been satisfying. Jinsol felt that she would be able to wrap up all the scenes with the Chinese boy in no time. However, that thought kind of saddened her.
Jinsol found herself really enjoying Kunhang's energy. Through the time she knew him (which has only been about a week or so now), she felt like he was a friend she known longer. Outside of their work, they chatted about anything that came to mind. Their favorite shows, the foods they crave late at night, the music that gets them dancing; just simple things like that. It felt so fresh interacting with someone new. Jinsol wasn't sure when was the last time she had been looking forward to a message... well, besides Haneul's updates of her favorite idols.

KH: Soooo besides wanna one

Does it seem like I don't listen to them?
KH: i didnt mean it like that
Its interesting for sure
JS: yeah, someone told me
to listen to them
And i kinda ended up really liking
their concepts and styles
Wbu? What do you like?
It was conversations like that Jinsol really liked. To be able to share their interests and talk about them with someone of different experiences and mindsets was fun, and maybe the girl forgot all about that.
One early weekend morning, Jinsol was already up to edit her important project. She was already nearly done with the first part of the series. Just a bit more audio fixes in some parts and some lighting changes, then she could go on to the second part of the series. She was on a roll.
However, she can't deny that she had been so drained from all this work. But the sooner she finishes the videos, the better, right?
"Aish, Jinny, you're up way too early!" Haneul had just now rolled out of her bed, shaking off the sleep from her eyes. The younger yawned and stretched her limbs. "You were up late last night editing, and now you're up now to edit too? Do I need to drag you away from your computer again?"
Jinsol picked out one of the earphone buds she had on so to turn her attention to her friend. "Haneul, you know how it is. I want to make this project the best thing ever and—"
The younger girl had stood up to walk over to her and placed her hands on her shoulders, stopping Jinsol mid sentence. "I do know! I also know how burnout you become during these things, even for the videos for your Youtube channel. And you know what? You always nail it on the head with your works! Me, your professors, and your viewers all know how great you are at this so please for once, give yourself a chance to relax too!" Haneul ranted, shaking Jinsol with each emphasis. "You working every single minute is great and all, but you don't need to add so much stress all at once! Go outside and take pictures like you usually do."
"I-I can't. I should finish this—"
"NOPE! Because if I let you, you'll go through the whole damn day doing this without break!" Haneul grumbled at her. "Remember that one day you nearly passed out because you were depriving yourself from actual human needs?"
Jinsol let out a sigh. "If I can promise you that I will give myself the time to eat and rest, would you let me edit all I want?"
"I can't trust you on that!" Haneul huffed, crossing her arms. "Maybe I should cancel on my plans today and stay here to monitor you."
"What am I? A baby?"
"Yeah, because you clearly can't take care of yourself sometimes!"
"Goodness, don't cancel your plans, Han!" Jinsol frowned at her. "You barely have time to hang out with your sister, her being a national volleyball player and all! You say that, but I know well you wouldn't cancel on Dalnim-unnie."
"Ugh, just... don't end up in the hospital again!"
"I won't! I truly promise." There was a staredown between the two, both of them not wanting to back down. Jinsol broke the eye comtact first, her gaze drawn back to her lit up screen. "Go get ready, already! You're supposed to leave early for brunch, right?"
Jinsol couldn't see her but she knew Haneul was making a face behind her back. She was back to continuing her edits, clicking about and watching how her videos showed. "Fine, just fine. But I will call you throughout the day for updates."
"That's fine."
"Hmph." She heard her roommate skitter away to the far side of the room where she knew their shared closet were. Haneul was finally getting ready for her outing.
After an hour or so, Haneul bid her goodbyes and left Jinsol by herself; leaving her in peace to work on her videos. Jinsol finally felt she could focus, so she went at it. She became so incredibly focused that she didn't realize how much time had passed. Minutes to hours.
Noon had already come around when Jinsol had gotten her first message from Haneul.
| Han❤️ |
HN: betcha didn't eat anything yet
just you wait~
Something will be there soon! 😜😜
Jinsol gawked at the thread of messages from her friend, confusion evident on her face. Did Haneul order food to be delivered to their dorm, by any chance? She didn't think she would do such a thing.
But nonetheless, she would appreciate it, seeing that she went out of her way to do that.
Knock, knock!
Her head whipped towards the front door. With a raised brow, she stood up. "Wow, I didn't think she'd do that for me," Jinsol uttered under her breath as she bounded towards the door. She stopped herself first, as she tied her messy, brown hair into a bun. Once satisfied, she swung open the door.
However, the one on the opposite side wasn't who she expected.
"Kunhang?" Jinsol squeaked out. "What are you doing here? How did you get here?"
The Chinese boy gave a warm grin, upon seeing her. "I guess Haneul wanted to keep me as a surprise."
"H-Haneul?" The message made so much sense now. Jinsol could feel her gut drop as she realized what had happened. A frown came to her lips as she peered at the male before her. "Did she really call you to check on me? I seriously am fine!"
And as if fate wanted to be against her, her stomach growled far too loud. Jinsol gasped, pressing her hands to her rumbling tummy. Her cheeks glowed with red.
"Sounds like you're hungry though," Kunhang replied, a teasing smile to his lips. "Let's go out and eat together then! I'm starving!"
"B-But—" Jinsol glimpsed back to her computer screen, content waiting to be edited. But she shouldn't ignore her hunger. She didn't eat anything yet. And if she declined now, she was sure Kunhang would tell on her to Haneul... and that was the last thing she wanted.
Fine. A couple hours wouldn't hurt.
Jinsol meekly nodded at the boy, who looked much more delighted by the answer. "Fantastic! I'll go ahead and wait for you in the lobby. You should, uh, dress up?" Kunhang replied in a low murmur. She could feel his eyes scan her. When she looked down at herself, she let out an audible gasp.
Did she... really show herself to the cute guy in her Snoopy pajamas?
When will she stop making a fool out of herself in front of Kunhang?
"So, you really like Snoopy, huh?" Kunhang asked with a cheeky tone in his voice.
Flustered, Jinsol just slammed the door before her. Her heart was absolutely racing. How could she have been so careless?! Ugh, she wanted to hit her head against the wall!
She turned her heel and returned to the bedroom... which was a big mistake as she finally saw what she looked like in the body mirror.
A shriek left her lips.
Jinsol really had the nerve to just show herself like that to Kunhang??
Her hair looked like a bird's nest resting a top of her head, her face was flushed, there were obvious dark circles under her eyes... and goodness gracious her Snoopy pajamas.
Fantastic job, Jinsol.
You're quite the attractive one.
With a million other curses replaying in her head, she rushed to get ready with hopes she would be actual decent by the end of it.

Kunhang really wanted to try the food in Jinsol's college cafeteria. It surprised her when that was the answer to where he wanted to eat, but she couldn't complain. She did enjoy the food over there, and it was always convenient, plus it was cheap. So, the two of them were on their way to campus.
"So, how are Dejun and Yangyang?" Jinsol asked, as they walked side by side down the familiar pathway. "Have you guys been training just fine?"
Kunhang gave a simple nod. "They've been okay. Practicing used to be so tiring before but now it's getting exciting again!"
"Really? Are you learning new things?"
"You can say that." An excited grin pulled at the corners of his lips.
"Do you think you'll be debuting soon?"
Jinsol couldn't really tell what his answer would be with his facial expression alone. Kunhang sighed, "Not sure really. But, I just hope it'll happen."
"Of course! I'm sure you will!" Jinsol chimed, giving a fist pump into the air for encouragement. It earned an amused chuckle from the Chinese boy. "Speaking of, when are you going to show me your dancing? I've been curious ever since you told me."
"Shall I show you after lunch then?"
"Sounds like a deal."
All of a sudden, Jinsol's phone began ringing. She stopped so to focus on her call, Kunhang following after. Her eyes widened when she saw who it was. Pressing the phone to her ear, she answered in a sweet tone, "Yes sunbae?"
"Jinsol-ah! I'm sorry to bother you but do you happen to be nearby Azalea's?" Taewoon's voice frantically asked her.
Jinsol's mind froze. They had passed the tea shop probably ten minutes ago. It was closer to campus now than it was to there. She gulped down and replied, "Actually, I am. I'm about to pass by it."
"That's perfect! Do you mind swinging by there? I was studying there for a bit and I forgot the textbook I need for my upcoming class."
Jinsol pressed her lips together before replying, "Of course, sunbae! What kind of book is it?"
"It's the second volume of an advanced film series! Thank you so, so much, Jinsol! I knew I could count on you." The girl placed her hand over her chest, her heart thumping so hard at his comment. "I'll go ahead and meet you at the entrance of the cafeteria then. You're the absolute best!"
"E-Erm, yeah..."
After that, Jinsol hung up the phone with a goofy smile to her lips. Kunhang had been staring at her the whole time, an unsure expression to his own face at the conversation. "Who was that?" He asked her.
"That was Taewoon-sunbae," Jinsol replied all too quick. "We need to stop by the tea shop."
"The one we already passed? For... your sunbae?"
"Yeah, I might as well since we're here!" She gestured for Kunhang to follow after her before she twirled around the opposite way they've been walking. They hurried the pace to kill the time they had in between. Jinsol swung open the door of the shop so quick, that it frightened the cafe manager, who was in the middle of sweeping the floors.
"Oh, Jinsol, Kunhang, hello," Mira greeted the two with a smile. "What would you two like today?"
"Not right now, unnie. I'm actually here to pick up a textbook," Jinsol replied as she approached the older girl.
"Ah, hold on." Mira shuffled over to the counter and grabbed the book. Just seeing the cover, Jinsol knew it was Taewoon's. "This one?"
"Exactly that!" Jinsol chimed as she was handed the book. "Thanks for keeping it safe."
"It's not yours, I assume? A boy was here earlier with it," Mira told her.
"No, it's apparently her Taewoon-sunbae," Kunhang huffed in response. Jinsol gave him a stern glance, which didn't get much a reaction. "Can we go? I'm hungry, Jinsooool!"
"Aish, I know," Jinsol scoffed at him. She bared a warm grin over to Mira. "Thank you! Maybe we'll swing by later again~" She grasped at Kunhang's arm and basically shoved him out the store before the manager could utter out a goodbye. However, they needed to hurry. Jinsol didn't want to be the cause of her sunbae being late to class.
"Jinsol, can't we slow down? It's so hot out," Kunhang whined.
She could feel herself being pulled back. Jinsol whipped her head at him with a glare. "I can't! We need to be there soon."
"Then, go ahead."
Jinsol's expression changed. She wasn't sure how to decipher that look on his face. "Huh?" She reluctantly let go of his arm. "Are you sure? We're almost there."
"Yeah... I'm only slowing you down. I'll meet you there," Kunhang uttered, his tone low. "Go or you'll be late."
"O-Okay." Jinsol gave one last glance at the Chinese boy before she turned her heel and burst out to a jog towards campus. She felt bad now. She didn't mean for Kunhang to be annoyed... but, he was the one that dragged her out in the first place.
The girl was heaving by the time she reached her destination. She slowed her pace when she saw her sunbae in the distance. Quickly, she dabbed the droplets of sweat off her face before she walked closer. Normal breaths, she grinned brightly at him and waved.
"Jinsol-ah! You really are the absolute best!" Taewoon beamed as he got the book from her hands. "What could I do without you, hmm?" Out of the blue, he reached over and softly ruffled her hair. Jinsol froze at his touch. This was the most intimate thing... She felt breathless. "Thank you so much, seriously! I'll treat you to drinks or whatever you want."
"Oh, you don't have to, though," Jinsol meekly said.
"Of course I should! Would I be a good sunbae if not?" Taewoon's gaze slightly shifted to whatever was behind her. As Jinsol turned to look as well, she spotted Kunhang coming up the cement steps to the cafeteria. The Chinese boy was glancing back and forth between them, mouth clamped shut as he arrived quietly to her side. "Your friend, Jinsol?" Taewoon shot his hand out towards him, a grin pulling at his lips. "I'm Park Taewoon, and you are?"
Kunhang stood silent. He only gave looks towards Jinsol. The girl wasn't sure what was happening, and she urged him with her eyes to say something or at least meet his hand. Kunhang let out a sigh as he saw the desperation. He reached out his hand and clasped onto the older's. "Wong Kunhang."
"Wong, huh? Then you must be Chinese?" Taewoon asked with pure interest.
Kunhang gave a small nod. Despite the question, he put his attention towards Jinsol and gave a pout. "Let's go in and eat, now?"
"Ah! I was interrupting, wasn't I?" Taewoon uttered out, reading the situation before him. He gave another grin at them. "You two should go ahead and have lunch! I should be getting to class anyway! Thanks again, Jinsol. Just tell me whatever you're craving next time and I'll get it for you in a heartbeat, alright?"
"S-Sure sunbae."
"It was nice meeting you, Kunhang! Maybe next time, we'll be able to chat longer."
With one last wave goodbye, the senior hurried down the stairs and jogged off to wherever his class must be. This gave Kunhang the chance to hurry into the cafeteria, catching Jinsol off guard and having to follow behind him. She grabbed onto his arm to stop him from going in any further. "Kunhang..." Jinsol grumbled at him with furrowed brows.
The boy replied with a seemingly innocent tone, "What?"
"Why were you being rude to Taewoon-sunbae?"
Kunhang pursed his lips, a clueless expression. "I don't know what you're talking about. I just felt that we'd be there forever if I didn't bring it up."
"You could have been a bit nicer about it," Jinsol shot back with a frown.
"He had to go to class anyway, right?"
"Uh, yeah, but still, Kunhang..."
He sighed, his gaze drifting away. "Is he that same sunbae that's together with that girl that blew up at you?" Jinsol couldn't answer. She couldn't believe he had put the puzzle pieces together like that. "And you like him, right?"
"I do not!" She sputtered out all too quick. She bit down on her lip, of course that sounded too rash. She corrected herself, "I used to."
"Doesn't seem like it."
Jinsol couldn't deny it. Kunhang would call her out on it, and that annoyed her. "Before you think wrong, I'm not trying to pursue him or anything! I know he's dating someone else. Even though I don't like her, I wouldn't stoop so low to try to flirt with him! There's nothing wrong with being nice to your sunbae, you know."
Kunhang held up his hands. "I'm not interrogating. You do whatever. I was just saying. I took you out of the cave so you can have some sustenance, so let's go finally eat, okay?" He was back to his smiley self as he walked on, a small skip to his step towards the food.
Jinsol couldn't shake off the odd feeling she had.
There wasn't any reason for her to feel guilty about what happened. Her gaze glued to the back of the very boy. Okay. Kunhang went out of his way to help her because of her health. She can't really be all fine with this.
Letting out a sigh, she trotted over and joined his side.
She was really hungry after all.
