ένας (one)

There was an angel.

Despite only being able to catch glimpses of herself on the surface of water, she knew she was gifted with strands of hair as white as snow, radiant skin, and the very thing that defined her the most: her big, fluffy wings. When the angel was among her kind, she bore no special gift that would immediately distinguish her from her peers. But as she travelled through Earth, she knew better to always stay cautious. Unlike humans, under the rays of sun, the angel's skin would gleam like gold.

She was walking on Earth, trying to get her job done as quickly as she could so she could go home and rest on the fluffy clouds above. Not that she hated her job-- no, in fact, she loved it very much. There was no job better to do in the sky than being able to walk around the Earth and to observe the beings called humans. In short, she was trusted to collect ideas and inspirations from her journey every day, since --as she had learned-- the humans didn't actually have that much time to walk around in order to find the daily ideas they need.

One day, the angel woke up to the light morning breeze. She had gotten very tired that she had driven to sleep on the earthy soil. She shuddered, feeling the morning cold biting onto her senses. Being an angel was pleasant at times, but it had its downsides. One of them was having her senses heightened by a million. Sure, it had helped her so much in some scenarios. But quite often, it brought her many troubles. Just like that morning, when she found herself lying on the cold ground.

The angel sighed, bringing herself up onto her feet.

It was only a few hours after that when the angel saw the sun creeping onto the sky. The bashful greeting from the sun was her signal to get back to work, and so she did. She decided to continue where she had stopped yesterday.

When the sun was almost above her head, the angel decided it was time to find shelter.
Not that she was afraid her skin would get burnt -- of course not. She was hiding from humans with gifted senses. Some of them could see her shadow when the sun was above her head, and yes, it had happened a few unlucky times before.

She wouldn't want that to happen again. The angel had gotten enough scolds for those particular accidents, she knew better than to repeat the same mistake.

The angel decided to sit underneath a giant oak tree, and not long after she felt the warm howl of wind sweeping on her cheeks, she took out her scroll and a pen.
Maybe the tree's generous leaves had its own charm, she smiled to herself. It felt like a home -- a place that would protect you from the biting heat with its cool embrace, a place for your tired feet to rest.

As she described the tree that had captured her adoration, the angel's excitement to write was abruptly paused upon seeing a shadow out of the corner of her eyes. The angel looked up, and it was actually very rare to not bounce back to her beloved scrolls again once she had started. But it happened that particular noon.

The sight was nothing incredible.
Just a human boy walking his dog on a leash, passing by the giant oak tree. But somehow, when she accidentally caught his eyes, the angel couldn't help but feel a weird feeling suddenly leaped inside of her.

It didn't feel bad at all. In fact, it made her immediately settle on a new scroll and began to describe her new object of admiration.

Her writing about the boy was nothing less than a beautiful one -- the higher-ranked angel deemed with a grin after he had read her scroll.

But somehow, the angel started to doubt whether the feeling was actually a good one. Because if it was, why did it haunt her up to this very second? She had seen almost everything: magnificent rolls of flowers on a green meadow at the outskirts of town, to the small, warm bakery that welcomed its customers with a whiff of fresh-baked breads. So why did this one linger? What was so alluring about the sight?

The angel concluded she needed to return to the same tree tomorrow at the exact same time as the day before. She needed to escape from the haunting image and find answers.

The same boy came along the next day, and the angel couldn't help but felt something jumped out of her chest. Again.

It was such a beautiful feeling, the angel decided, and the conclusion brought a smile onto her face. It's warm, it's pleasant, it brought her joy.
The boy glanced at the direction of the tree again that day, and this time, a gaze was held for a moment. The joy intensified, and the warmth was heightened by a million as she almost felt heat on her cheeks. The angel admitted it was, indeed, a miracle!

It had given her a chance to realize his eyes were a very mesmerizing sight to see. A mixture of blue molded with grey. The said pair of eyes made her completed her scroll quicker than usual, earned her more praises than the previous scroll did before. Along the way, she silently wondered how those pair of eyes made her wish a new day could come along much faster.
