V
Renegade groggily lifted his head only to look around and see that he was currently within a small interrogation room,"Aw, fuck."
His hands were currently cuffed to a grey metal table as which he was sitting at, and his utility belt and gloves were nowhere to be seen. His leg that had been shot at was also bandaged up nicely, the pain surprisingly no longer dwelling there.
He wasn't exactly sure where he was at the moment. It didn't appear to be a Juvenile Detention Center, nor a jail cell, so where exactly had he been taken to?
Within the room, there was a small table at which we was sitting at with two wooden chairs- both facing across from each other. He looked to his right to see a door that didn't appear to be much, but was probably enforced by metal and locks to ensure didn't escape. There was a white colored light hanging from the ceiling, and most importantly, there was a two- way mirror, showing his handsome face to... well, himself.
The metal door then randomly opened, revealing the Dark Knight himself,"Renegade."
Renegade groaned at the heroes presence,"Ugh, you have got to be kidding with me."
"We need to talk."
Another loud groan of annoyance of heard,"Renegade isn't here at the moment. Please leave a message after the beep...."
"... Renegade." His name was used in a way to scold him.
Renegade put his head down on the table,"Whoops. This person has yet to set up a voicemail box. Please try again later."
"This is no time to joke around."
Renegades face slipped into a small smile as he lifted his head from the table,"No time to joke around? Hell, I've got all the time in the world now if I'm locked up. I could paint, contemplate life, join a gang, and yes, joke around, and a day still would not have passed."
"You're not in prison."
The teen lifted an eyebrow,"No... ? So, where am I? If you wanted to hang out, you could have simply asked; maybe sent an invitation. Not that I would have accepted. To be rude, your parties are probably really lame."
"Our location is not important. Right now you should be considering whether or not you'll be answering my questions."
"Questions? Like, why is the sky blue, or what's the meaning of life?" Renegade raised an eyebrow,"Well, if you really must know, the true meaning is life is-"
"Renegade, no. Questions about you. About your life, your past, your identity."
The ebony seemed to consider it,"Let's just pretend for a second that you wanting to know all this about me isn't creepy... but what's in it for me? A pony? Oh, I got it! Your Netflix password?!"
"How about this? I won't send you to prison."
"Sounds kind of lame if you ask me...."
"It's your only option at this point."
"Do I get a phone call? What are my rights!" Renegade pounded his bound fists against the table creating a loud ruckus,"Where's my lawyer? I demand to see my lawyer! I plead the 5th!"
"Fine, prison it is." Batman simply stood up and walked out of the room.
Renegade slightly paled,"Well shit... I'm screwed."
---
Two hours later and Renegade was still in the room, clueless as to when we would be taken out. The first hour, he feel asleep and dreamt of squirrels, so it passed rather quickly. Though it left him wanting a pet squirrel. Perhaps he would name it Peanut, or just Squirrel.
Truthfully, he believed that him being apprehended was a nightmare, but alas, it was his unfortunate reality.
The second hour, he was able to pass by twiddling his thumbs and coming up with clever puns which he was sure to use later on in his life. You never know when you might need a good pun. Especially when you needed to annoy someone. They worked every time.
The plain door in the room then once again opened to show Kid Flash, the speedster of the team of heroes.
"Hey, speedy!" The ginger made a face, but said nothing,"Wanna hear a funny joke?"
Kid Flash let out a sigh as if he knew he would regret his next words,"Sure, why not?"
"Why did the banana go to the doctor?"
A shrug was earned.
"He wasn't peeling well." A loud obnoxious laugh was heard after that by the assassin.
An annoyed groan was heard from the speedster right before he turned and walked out of the room, the door shutting behind him therefore proving his earlier point.
"Hey! Where are you going? That was comedy gold!" The assassin tried to yell after him to no avail.
Soon enough the archer then entered looking highly irritated,"What did you do to him? He refuses to come in here and help Batman take you to Juvie."
Renegade shrugged,"I didn't say a word to him. I don't know what his problem is. Probably on his punctuation mark that means the end of a statement." Artemis raised an eyebrow for a moment as she interpreted his words.
"His what?"Then it clicked causing her to roll her eyes in disappointment,"I'm gonna be so glad when you're gone..."
"Pretty clever, aren't I? I don't know if a mind this intelligent should be locked up."
Artemis said nothing as she undid the handcuffs from his wrists.
Renegade had hoped that by keeping a conversation he could stall, but it didn't seem to be working out too well. Plus, he lacked the social skills necessary to hold a conversation. What could he say? Wasn't his fault he was isolated his whole life.
"Just get up." The archer was getting right down to business and Renegade was trying his hardest to play it "cool"
"Please don't take me!" He fell onto his knees,"I'm too good for that place! I can't go there, they'll kill me! I'll do anything! I'll buy you a dog! Actually, I'll have to steal it.... but it'll be a dog! Or food? Would you prefer food?! You have an enemy you need to take out?! I'm your guy!" He pointed to himself with a bit of pride in his expression.
Artemis shook her head,"You give Batman info on who you are, and you stay."
"You sure? After this, the dog offer is gone... imagine... I could have stolen you a chihuahua, or even a poodle!"
"Yes or no?"
Renegade bit his lower lip,"..... Fine, yes, but just know that you're a cruel evil person for turning down dogs and food. I'll never look you the same way again."
"Fine by me." She turned and walked out, locking the door behind her.
A few minutes later Batman walked in, looking somewhat pleased with himself. At that point, Renegade had began to conclude that they probably planned this. If he was desperate enough to not go to Juvie then they would get the info they wanted. They just needed to play him... Hmm. Point, Batman.
"So, Bratty Bat, what's up?"
"Your name, what is it?"
Renegade shook his head,"Nope!"
"You giving me information is part of the deal. We can easily-"
"What I mean is that I'll tell you, but only at the end of this. If I tell you now it's like reading the end of a book first. It's pretty lame, if you ask me. Plus, the fans need a cliff hanger!"
Batman seemed to accept that,"Where do you live?"
"Wherever the wind takes me." He spread out his no longer restrained arms.
"Exact location."
"It depends. At first I lived in an abandoned apartment complex, and then I lived in the sewers, but I had to move because of an annoying narcissistic rat*. Now I just kind of chill where ever I can. I move when I feel like it." He shrugged.
"Who taught you how to fight?"
A small flash of resentment passed Renegades eyes,"His name is Deathstroke."
Batmans eyes widened,"The mercenary?"
"No, the plumber,"The teen retorted,"Of course the god damn mercenary!"
"Where is he now?"
"Dead." The word was stated simply as if it meant nothing.
The Dark Knights eyes widened once more,"What, how?"
Renegade smiled like a child on Christmas morning,"Ooh, story time! So once upon a time Deathstroke and I went on a little mission together. Fun, right? Well, Deathstroke, being the unprofessional baby that he is, got stabbed and was on the brink of death. He began muttering about how he could still make it out alive. Claiming that if I took him to his place, I could save his life. That poor insane old man... but it was pretty obvi' that he wasn't going to make it. I mean, he was bleeding a lot.... So I shot him-twice! Best thing I've ever done in my life. I'd do it again if I could! The end! Stay turned for info on the prequel!"
"You killed Deathstroke?" There was shock in his voice.
"Yeah, but if it helps, they weren't even headshots. I'm not that mean. He did train me and all, even if it was absolute hell."
"Did you live with him?"
"Yeah, we were roommates, ya know. He was the annoying OCD one and I was the one who never paid the rent."
"For how long?"
The teens expression turned grim,"4 years."
The Dark Knight wasn't sure what to say,"Why did he train you?
"I don't know to be completely honest. Guess he needed friends with his interests. Why do people do anything? For example, why did you kidnap me? Why are you interrogating me?"
That earned him a glare.
"And you just went with him, with no hesitance at all?"
"No, he took me when I was 9 years old. He tried to train me at first, and well... I was rather reluctant. I didn't want to kill. Funny, right? I can't even remember why to be honest,"His voice seemed pained,"He saw that and decided to use me for drug testing instead. I don't know what the hell was put in my system, but it was rough. Constant torture and suffering. It probably even messed with my memories or sanity, but it finally broke me and he knew that... So, I was once again trained to kill, and well, this time I did it. It actually felt pretty nice. I obeyed every order and followed every rule. He took me on missions, gave me my own missions. Ya know, the usual... But hey, look at me now, I'm all good now and free too so that doesn't matter anymore!" He smiled brightly.
"Where's your family?"
A sigh was earned from that,"You see, when I was 9, my good for nothing parents decided that I was a piece of garbage and they threw me out. Yeah, I know, who would want to throw out someone as amazing as me? They're loss! They practically threw out a winning lottery scratch card. After that, when I was on my own is when Deathstroke decided to snatch me and make me his little apprentice."
"You were trained by Deathstroke and you claim that you only kill criminals? That doesn't seem completely logical knowing Deathstrokes work." Batman questioned.
"Well... Sure, I'll also kill for money, a guys gotta get some cash somehow, but I prefer to kill criminals. Just feels better. Unless, you know, a person is really really annoying. Like, they just won't decide what to order in line at the pizza place and the line is really long and you're really hungry." Renegade looked down as his stomach now considering what he would eat later. He was getting pretty hungry. Getting shot tends to do that to you after all.
His statement stuck with Batman.
"Anything else?"
"Well, yeah, weird thing. When I was with Deathstroke, he would constantly give me some weird dosages of some weird drug. He claimed that they were 'necessary', but hey, I've been without them for a while now and I'm doing just fine. So, whatever."
Batman nodded,"I'll run a few tests later on that just in case, but right now, Renegade, I need you to tell me your real name."
Rather than speaking the teen simply removed his mask, revealing his bright blue eyes that could be recognized within an instant.
He heard a quiet gasp from the Dark Knight, catching his attention,"...Richard Grayson."
