Chapter 9: Amid the Storm.

"My name... is Rin," The feline began as she sat next to the blonde and chewed on some takeout he brought with him. Slurping some ramen noodles, the feline finished her bite and paused for a moment. "The woman who you spoke to before... Was Vei. She and I are two in one body. Our full name... Is Veirin. People in our world call us the Mysterious Feline because no one can uncover our identity. We weren't heroes or villains at the beginning, we were just citizens looking for clues to our parents," Another bite of noodles, she slurped some up and began to chew.

"Wait, so you and Vei are in one body... Doesn't that mean that you have... What's the word?" Toshinori's contemplative stare averted and tried to piece it all together.

"Dissociative Identity Disorder," The feline knew what he was asking and gave him the best answer. "It's when a person has two or more personalities. I don't see it as a disorder... I see it as an opportunity. To be able to hide our true identity better and avoid being exposed," Quiet, her words were, almost a whisper, for her monotonous voice reached his ears and saw him pause in mid-chew.

"That's pretty clever! Have you considered being a hero? I mean-- you did say you weren't on either side at the beginning, so I can't help but think you chose one at some point," Again, he used his chopsticks to slurp some noodles and chewed.

"We did. Heroes... They paid better than the previous job Vei had. We hardly cared to save lives, but we did anyway because of the pay. However... After a long time, she and I both agreed that it's wrong to let someone die or let the defenseless get hurt if they're close by," Another slurp of her noodles, Rin explained and began to sip at the juice in the Styrofoam cup.

"I see. Can you tell me how you and Vei managed to move the way you do? Do Quirks exist in your world?" Genuinely curious, Toshinori lowered his cup and stirred the noodles around in the liquid.

"No... Something similar. Many people possess some kind of power and some don't. Some become Monsters and others Heroes, while the more laid back tend to stick to normality," Finally, she downed the last bit of the Ramen juice and licked around her lips to clean it off. "To answer your other question... We had a Master. Our Master taught us everything she knew. She trained us from dawn to dusk and hardly gave us breaks. The art of stealth, specific techniques, and skills that she passed down to us and let us change it into our own. To your world, we don't have a Quirk. We have no abnormal power... Because our DNA was altered before birth," Her words spiked curiosity and confusion in the blonde when she saw him rest his elbows on his crossed legs.

"You were... Bio-engineered? So that means, no powers manifested and the speed and strength you have now are..." He trailed off to ponder before he continued. "That day I saw Vei gliding, she moved with afterimages and had incredible speed. I don't know a whole lot, but--" He stopped and looked at her when her words overran his.

"Our speed comes from our skills combined with our physical strength. My Master has the raw speed from decades of training. She saw potential in our strength and taught us how to use it for speed. Our physical strength was born with us, it was never a manifestation of power like in this world. We have feline traits, naturally born into us as well... We don't have any power," Pushing the cup aside, she stood up and moved her eyes to the moon. Gratta Quall, she could remember him as if it were yesterday even though he was killed by Saitama.

"Amazing... Well," He, too, stood up and looked to the moon. Stretching and groaning from the long talk and hearing his bones crack. "There's something like that here, too. We call them Nomu... But they're nowhere near the same as you. The Nomu are bio-engineered, but they don't have very many brain cells," From her peripherals she saw him turn to face her and grin, to which her slits moved when he offered her a handshake. "It was nice to finally meet you and Vei, and understand what's going on. Is it alright if I inform the others? They'll want to contact Vei as well and get some things resolved," His toothy grin and close of his eyes told her he was genuine.

No levels of hostility. Of course... Why would there be? He's a hero. Pondering, darting her attention from his face to his hand, she hesitantly accepted his gesture and gave him a nod. "I must train now. Seeing as this world requires better speed... I'll need to train my speed and be faster. I'll be taking nightly strolls," This time she fully faced him, bore her slits into his confused ones, and hoped he wouldn't question her anymore.

"How fast are you? What's your limit?" The tilt of his head and the curiosity on his face proved his confusion even more.

"I can run at sonic speeds, but, I want to break that limit and become faster... Something tells me... I will need it," Determined she was, for her head lowered to show it and watched as nervous beads of sweat trickled down the old man's forehead.

"F- Faster? Edgeshot can move faster, I think... If you want to move faster than sound, you can try asking for Edgeshot's help," His knitted brows and awkwardness didn't go unnoticed by the feline, for she paid attention to every little movement and detail he had.

"My methods will work fine. All I need is a stopwatch," Quietly she explained, not once did her robotic, mysterious stare break from his otherwise nervous eyes.

"A- Ah! Hey! You're in luck! I tend to carry this around with me on occasion. Here," From his baggy pants, out came the very item she needed to aid her training and offered it.

Without a second thought, Rin took it and gave him a nod. Talking is a waste of time and energy... Why do I have to resort to it? When her slits moved to see the stopwatch, she soon attached it to her belt loop and stepped back.

"When would you like to meet again?" It was swift, almost blinding speed, Toshinori was taken aback by her sudden vanish and the afterimage in her wake.

~~~~
One night, or maybe a few hours, is about all it will take for me to figure out how to break past my limit. Maybe... I should speak with Edgeshot as he suggested and see if he could give me some ideas. Through the street, past vehicles at an incredible speed, her skill showed when she leaped at a semi-truck and jumped off of its backside.
Across the traffic, with her body straight and her hands above her head, she used her momentum and sped along the side of an apartment wall on all fours. Using the windowsills as leverage and latching onto the rims of a side stairwell, she sat on top to overlook the city.
She couldn't waste any time, for the stopwatch was ticking away so she quickly made haste back to the bustling vehicles below. Streams of car lights, stop lights, and streaks of other colors as she raced through would be enough for just about anyone to have a seizure. However, it hardly bothered her. More... I need to push harder. she momentarily thought.
The burn in her legs started to become more noticeable as she kept up with it. Out of the city, down the roads, and around corners, she continued to trek. Ahead of her was a sharp turn and far across she could see the other side of the road, it was a twisting path. Nonetheless, she leaped over the side rails and reached the other part within seconds, not once did her feet touch the water.
I should have given myself a destination. So, I guess I'll stop at the closest gas station. Quickly she pondered as her slits aimlessly moved to pay attention to every little detail along the way. She ran until she came to a gas station like she wanted. With a short twist, her momentum kept her moving but her feet stopped and made her skid to a slow halt.
On all fours her body swerved and just when she finally came to a pause, faint breaths escaped her half-masked lips. Off of her belt loop, she pulled the stopwatch and saw the time. One minute and twenty-two seconds... Alright, now I know what I need to do. Despite using one hand to look at her results, the other limb kept her propped up in her leaned-over position.
Standing back up, turning to face where she came from, she began to wiggle her legs about to loosen up her muscles. Her toes started to tap at the pavement, one foot at a time, and closed her eyes. A deep breath, in and out, her eyes snapped back open before she disappeared once more.
Aside from the wind in her ears while she sped down the road, the sound of thunder roared in the sky. It's going to rain... Good. That will give me some resistance to my speed and force me to push through it. I'll have to focus on not slipping or sliding, and force my body to use strength to make myself slow down quicker if I need to. My Master trained me during torrents, blizzards, hot summers, on moving boats, under waterfalls, and always made sure my guard was never down. I cannot, for a second, lower my guard. Her slits reflected the determination she had to increase her speed and ignored the sudden downpour that pushed against her body.
It was as predicted, heavy winds did their best to force her backward but did little to no effect. As before, she sped across the gap on the twisting road and met the other side with another burst of speed.
She continued this for just as long and once she made it back to the beach, her breaths were a bit heavier and small beads of sweat trickled down her tightened muscles. The stopwatch was turned off, for she stood there to let the heavy rain wash away the sweat she built up. It looks like Toshinori isn't here now. Good, no distractions... Relieved that no one was around, she continued her trek back into the city and leaped over houses.
I need to find a good spot. Preferably high up and overlooking the city to try and sharpen my focus. From building to building, on all fours, she leaped across gaps and saw a skyscraper that stood above all the others. There. Concluding her destination, a burst of controlled strength sent her far past rooftops, and put her hands in front for a swift grab.
On a ledge, with no sound, her fingers grasped before she pulled herself into a feline sit and sat there for a moment to listen. No levels of hostility and no smell... There wasn't a flat surface where she stood, just a ledge where it was connected to the half-domed, glass roof.
Finally, quiet, only the storm and her as she stood straight. Closer to the center, with one leg lifting and the other keeping her balance, her eyes closed to focus on her senses. Arms bent, hands turned, and fingers intertwined, the feline kept her ears open to every sound and smell that could occur. The heavy winds were strong enough to blow most normal people over but it hardly nudged her, the strength in her legs remained tight and still.
Whistles through the wind echoed all around her, as thunder rolled and lightning flashed above her head. Despite being soaked, she never slipped nor did her eyes flinch upon the movement of the torrent. Master... Isabelle, there is one thing I wish I could've learned from you. How do you use your talismans? I should've asked her that before I got into this whole situation. She stayed like that for a good few minutes, pondering and wondering how her master was able to make barriers using talismans. Your healing power would've come in handy too, that is one of the reasons why I wished you were with me right now. Rin sighed, her eyes opened, a glint of longing reflecting in her thin slits.
However, there was something different, something that was cutting through the rain and heavy wind. Her ears could pick up impacts from steel and cries for help.
When her eyes opened and looked to the side, her one leg moved back down to stand with the other. A citizen is in trouble. Simply stated in her mind, Rin crouched down to all fours and crawled towards the edge where the arch of the dome was.
She didn't know that a stranger from a far distance was watching her before she left behind an afterimage that lasted a mere second. Gliding through the storm with ease and twisting her body to squeeze through a construction machine's extender. Between bars, she spun in place, her shoulders and hips managed to make it past the small square holes.
Above her head, she moved her hands and grabbed a pole that stuck out the side of another building. Her grip remained tight as the momentum flung her up and over before she caught herself on top and sat like a cat. Ahead of her, there was nothing, but to the side, she saw a large beast whose brain seemed unprotected.
(Play: Extra Terra – Blockchain :D)
For the longest time, she watched the Nomu cry out and chase after civilians. Along the pole, she walked, one foot in front of the other as her slits remained glued to the ravaged beast below. Easily to a connected rooftop, she turned and continued to walk down the side of it and saw its bladed arms cut through structures with a howl.
Not once did her attention avert, for her slits watched its every move. She didn't need to see to step over a small gap between the building she walked along and another. Following the rampaging beast, never did she sprint to keep up, all she needed were her eyes.
To the edge of the building, she squatted with her hands between her legs and hunkered to prepare a lunge. Her quick burst sent chunks of the structure to the ground, for she flipped and dropped her heel upon its head with a sick thwack. Powerful enough to make its head drop, she wasted no time whipping herself around in the air and bringing her leg out to the side, kicking it across the street.
People cried, and screamed at the random battle, but she paid them no mind when she adjusted her body and landed on all fours. Never did her focus on the beast falter, her limbs pushed her off to the side to avoid a chunk of debris thrown at her. Like a cat, low to the ground she ran on her hands and feet, and skillfully dodged a much larger piece headed her way.
Pushing herself off the surface by mere inches, the built-up momentum was enough to send her after the Nomu. Her body twisted, turned with a movement of her hand on the ground, and stomped onto the Nomu's abdomen.
Through the building and out the other side, almost into another, she hit and sent it flying. Its brain is exposed. That's where it'll hurt the most. Her feet punctured its chest with the metal talons, however, her senses spiked.
Aside from the cry of the Nomu, its bladed arms lifted and her body moved. Leaping back, gracefully flipping and tilting her head, from several feet into the air she watched it charge after her.
The moment its arms reached for her, she straightened herself out, brought her knees up, and caught the blades just enough to slow it down. There she saw an opening, so she wasted no time wrapping her legs around the beast's head and flipping it over her. It looked as though they floated, she moved so quickly that gravity didn't pull them down in time before she smashed its head straight into the pavement.
Pieces of the street rose the moment she had, high into the air and out of the dirt that obscured everyone's vision, she leaped. A singular, graceful, straight flip above the buildings before landing on her two feet and watching the flown dust.
I need to rip its head off or destroy its brain-- Hostility has risen! Concluded the cat, for she did a perfect split and leaned her torso back to watch the Nomu fly past her face. There she saw her chance, a second to strike, with a click of a button, the long claws on her hands came out and cut it deep through the middle.
When she did a frontward roll and turned around, she watched it roll like a tumbleweed. With its guts tainting the street, it made a streak of crimson and crawled toward her with a cry of anger. Rin gave it no mercy, no time to do anything else, for she vanished with an afterimage in her place.
Close to the ground, a couple of images in her wake as she sped across, her countless footwork made her whirl until a clawed foot spun and sliced its head off. Its head rolled as she stood there stiff and low to the surface, waiting for whatever came next. The beast's lack of movement gave her enough proof that it wasn't alive anymore.
It's dead... Good. To know that it wasn't an issue anymore, she saw no reason to keep an eye on the thing. Slowly she stood back up, wiggled her bloodied foot fast enough to get rid of the blood on her blades, and pressed her heel just right to retract them.
(End of song~)
Voices behind her, and murmurs of the citizens filled her ears when she stood there and stared at the odd beast. I take it... This is the Nomu? Then there's more than one out there somewhere. She never took her eyes off of the thing, but by the smells around her, she could tell All Might wasn't too far behind.
Crouching like a feline, closer and closer her hands crawled, she carefully sniffed the beast to become familiar with its scent. There's an amalgamation of human sweat and laboratory chemicals. It's just as Toshinori told me... It's a bio-engineered creature. Back to a stand, she stepped a few inches away and pushed her hip out to look over her shoulder. With an arm dangling over her side, those mysterious feline slits bore into sunken blues across from her.
"Excellent work! But maybe next time, you should leave it to the heroes, eh?" There she saw him give a thumbs up and a toothy, pleased grin.
Toshinori... So that's what he looks like with his power. He puts on a blue suit, too. Good... Then I don't need to fight all the time. Why is he standing so far away? Monotonous, her thoughts swarmed like bees as she stayed there and watched the bulky man chuckle at her achievement.
Even though it was raining it was blocking a lot of her sense of smell, it took a bit but luckily she was able to pick up another. It was the ninja hero she fought before, it was easy to tell that he was high atop a roof because he was near All Might.
Another one? A third one she picked up, her slits peeked to the side and saw a man clad in black, crouched, with goggles and a scarf around his neck. I'll have to wait... Gradually she lowered herself to sit like a cat, watched the eyes of many around her, and excluded the slower individuals.
They're all watching me... As if I'm an alien to them. A threat... Pondering, a ton of possibilities as to why they would act that way, flew through her mind until one conclusion was made. I see, they're skeptical about me and can't figure me out. So they're hoping, by watching me, they could get an answer. Not once did her attention on the crowd falter, not even a twitch of her muscles. Wait for it... All I need is for the ninja hero to blink, to get away. Just... One second is all I need. She paid close attention to Edgeshot who stood on someone's chimney and kept his fingers together.
The storm continued to roar through the sky and keep up with its torrent. The silence that fell was never disturbed, not even a cough or a sneeze occurred. It was as if time had slowed, for the ninja blinked and almost everyone else did too. Now! Within seconds, she vanished and left behind an afterimage that stunned so many people. The Heroes, taken aback, had looked around to where she could've gone but no one could find any traces of her trail.
~~~~

"Where did she go? I was just going to ask if she'd like to talk to us. I wanted to break the silence!" In a panic, All Might hilariously looked around on that street and almost stepped in a pile of guts if he hadn't seen it in time.

"Maybe, I could help with that," Right next to the buff man, Edgeshot hopped down and gave him a curious glance. "I noticed she was watching me the most. Most likely because I have faster reflexes or eyes. Since we fought once already, I'll go look for her. It shouldn't be too hard to find her. She seems to be the type to hide in the shadows, so that's where I'd start looking," Explained the ninja with a gesture of his hand. The way she moved, looked like a feline on the field wrestling its prey and how she performed that skillful whirl to cut off its head piqued interest in his dark eyes.

"That would be too risky. We don't know if she's a friend or foe... She fought you before because you followed her. Clearly... She's hiding something and she doesn't want us to know," The man clad in black, Aizawa stepped in and put his hands into his pockets.

"Ah-- about that! I was going to tell everyone about her. I- I'll explain when we all gather up! I spoke to her just hours ago!" Triumphant, sparkles gleamed from All Might when he placed his hands on his hips and grinned.

"You... Spoke to her?" Aizawa's eyes looked to the large man and were filled with suspicion at the mention of it.

"Yes! Well, she doesn't talk a lot," Rather awkward it was for Toshinori, aside from the torrent that drenched them all, his nervous sweat only added to how soaked he was.

"I understand... I tried talking to her before, too, but she would hardly answer me. The time when I asked what her reason was for wanting to break into U.A, all she said was-- Answers," With a fold of his arms, Edgeshot hummed in thought and closed his eyes.

"Either way, I'll tell you everything she told me. For now, all you need to know is that she's not a threat to us. She agreed to let me inform you of everything she said," His signature grin never fell, for he knew why she was looking for information and he dared not explain her reasons out in public like they are now.

"Fine... Let's speak to Nezu about this and talk with the other Heroes. Preferably, when it's not storming and when I can get some sleep," Annoyed beyond words, Aizawa grumbled and hugged his arms to try and get rid of the chill the rain gave him.

"Alright! It's settled then! Tomorrow we will discuss this Mysterious Feline!" All Might's fist pressed against his chest, eager to resolve the cat ninja's mystery.

~~~~~
After a long night of training, fighting the Nomu, and dealing with the heroes afterward, Rin was going to go back to the shack when a portal appeared at her side.
She was quick to leap away when a hand came into her peripherals, however, a light glow suddenly appeared around her form before she was turned into a blue marble of sorts.
It was quick when the hand grasped the object and retracted into the portal. With another flash of light, Rin found herself inside a bar, crouched like any other feline, and sat in front of a man with a top hat. "Welcome!" From a deep bow, his arm bent over his abdomen and gave her the best mannerisms possible.
"Are you sure this will work? I don't think Shigaraki will be happy to know that we confined a beast in the bar with us," Dabi, who kept his back against the only available exit, from which Rin saw, smirked at her occurrence and kept his arms folded.
"I just wanted to give this a try. It seemed it worked, too, she didn't suspect a thing aside from seeing my hand coming for her.~" With a shrug of Compress's shoulders he returned his gaze to her and pondered her studious stare. "Miss, would you mind telling us who you are? We noticed you took out the Nomu," The tilt of his head showed his curiosity when the mask he wore did little to no help to express it.
He, some girl in a school uniform, the Flamethrower, and a lizard man who sat on a stool and propped up a knee, all stared at her robotic yet mysterious gaze. Gradually she stood, keeping tabs on everyone in the room and remaining as silent as ever.
"You gonna say something or just stare at us forever?" Dabi's smirk dropped and pushed his hands into his pockets.
The exit is blocked. There's a ventilation shaft above me judging by the grate in the ceiling, too. So far, the man who smells like soot is my only way out unless I take the vents. I'll have to be careful... Quirks are manifested powers here, so flames, some sort of man who contains things into orbs, a child who has a dagger, the portal man I met before, and some man who looks like a lizard. I don't see or smell the man who smells like decay... One person at a time, Rin's slits watched closely in hopes of seeing everyone she can.
"Miss. While you're here, would you like something to drink? Considering you're a cat, perhaps some milk?" The misty bartender gave her an offer but received no answer.
Cautious steps past Compress and close to the lizard man, not once did her enchanting but mysterious green hues avert from Kurogiri. For once, she gave him a nod and moved her eyes to the rafters above everyone. If this is a bar and it's their hideout... The best course of action is to wait or-- to knock both this man out and the man in front of the door, to escape. Even though she paid Kurogiri no mind and observed everyone else, she still listened. The sound of liquid pouring met her ears, but so did giggling next to her from the girl she saw.
"I love kitties! Judging by your outfit, you're a tiger, right? A white tiger? I had never seen any tigers with green eyes before.~" In her peripherals Rin saw the girl stretch across the surface and lay down to get a better look at her face.
Still no words from the feline, only her body language gave them a response when she shook her head and sighed through her nose.
"Here you are. Don't worry, it's not poisoned or anything," The misty man reassured and stepped back to watch.
Rin wasn't some amateur, she knew whether someone was lying to her or not. His calm demeanor is questionable. They're all watching me like I'm some sort of grand discovery on Animal Planet... When she looked at the shot glass with milk in it, she picked it up and gave it a quick sniff. I smell something off. It's been rigged, I knew it. Calmly the glass was placed back down and the glare she gave sent a cold chill down Kurogiri's supposed spine.
"Hey, he poured that for you. It's rude to not drink it now," Dabi spoke up and gave her a smirk, to which she saw and stepped past the lizard man to reach him. "What?" Before he knew it, Rin grabbed his hair quicker than he could react and pulled his head down onto her knee when she lifted it. She bashed his forehead, which made him grunt, and then she spun around kicking the back of his head.
Across the bar she made him fly straight into Compress, with a horrible crack on the wall from her strength. Rin used her afterimage technique and turned to the door, just to see countless padlocks and such aligning the side. Next, came a black mist as large as her that covered the exit and kept her from going any further.
"Damn! Ah!" The complaint from Dabi who she saw get off of Compress, rubbed his forehead and the back of his head. It throbbed horribly, but it didn't stop him from shooting a glare. "The hell was that for?! This woman's unpredictable!" As if on cue, a knock on the door occurred and caused everyone to look.
"Ah... It must be Shigaraki," Kurogiri stated as his misty hand unlocked everything and opened the door. There in the doorway stood the aforementioned man along with Magne and another in a black suit. "Welcome back," He greeted.
The look on Shigaraki's face when his eyes met green slits, was that of pure shock. "Who... Brought her in here?" Angry now, the crusty man walked in and looked at everyone else to find the culprit. In came Magne, who gave the woman a wave and made her way in. Next, it was the man in black, who gave her a curious stare.
They both stared at each other for the longest time, until he finally spoke to break the silence. "I heard you were able to get a few hits on Edgeshot. Yeah, you kicked his ass!" Hilariously his other personality switched over and made gestures with his hands.
"She won't talk! You might as well not even try, Twice. Be careful, too, she got me pretty good, gah-" Grunting, Dabi quickly held the back of his head and groaned in pain.
"You... Now that you're here, I see no reason to waste your time. Tell me. Are you the same woman who carried the shotgun and sniper rifle? I'm not so stupid to assume otherwise. You both have the same damn eyes!" Shigaraki exploded when he whipped around to grab her mask and aimed to disintegrate it.
His mistake, for Rin quickly pressed her two fingers together, used her afterimage, and sped past the man who attempted to strike. Everyone gasped at her speed and their leader when he fell face-first onto the floor, immobile. "The hell?! What did you do to me?!" She heard him yell, but it wasn't enough to avert her focus because it was glued to everyone else who took a combative stance. Both fingers remained lifted and close to her chest, while the other hand pressed against her backside.
Patient, she was, unbelievably, as she kept a close eye on the rest who were just as cautious as her. "S- Shigaraki-- I'm sorry. I brought her in here with my quirk and with Kurogiri's help! I figured my plan would work... It did but... Now I think we're the ones trapped," Sweatdropping, Compress stepped closer to the other wall and watched her every move.
"You are all idiots! Damn, fucking morons! I was coming back with a new plan, a better plan to approach her and you ruined it!" Despite the floor muffling Tomura's mouth a bit, he still managed to spit out insults.
"Man... If Stain was here, he'd want to fight her to see who's the most skilled," Mumbling to himself, the lizard man hummed in thought and stayed as far away from her as possible. Luckily no one heard him aside from Rin due to her acute hearing.
"I know what she did, Shigaraki. Judging by her fingers, she hit your pressure points and immobilized you," Thanks to Kurogiri and his keen observation, his words made the immobile man groan.
"Listen here, kitty cat. We're not going to let you leave unless we get some answers. Who's side are you on?" The Flamethrower asked with a tilt of his head and a dangerous glare her way. Behind her, he and everyone else saw Twice make a double of himself to attempt a pounce. The shake of his head told him not to do it, to which Twice listened and pulled his clone back.
"No one's," Quiet, almost like a whisper, and with little to no emotion, Rin finally answered. Her words made the group stare in awe, astonished that she finally spoke. It was quick, at her fastest speed, an afterimage was left behind at the same time when Twice was kicked out of the way and the door flung further open.
"Oh... She escaped. Would you look at that... Now get me off of this floor, damn it!" Groaning angrily, Tomura demanded and felt Twice lift him with the help of a clone he popped out.
