Percy Jackson and the Shadow in the Corner

@Chilea
Percy forgot how much fun skateboarding was. After the war with Kronos, he and Annabeth stopped by his favorite skate-store and picked up a board. It was getting dark and they new the park would be closing soon, but he couldn't stop. He refreshed the tricks that had rusted over the years at camp and tried some new ones. Annabeth laughed, watching him with her book, Strange Angels, propped up on her knees.

"Watch this," Percy smiled, picking up speed down the ramp but just as he was about to jump, something caught his eye. A figure, as dark and the shadows themselves peered at him from the corner of a closed building. It was staring right at him. Then he felt himself fall, pieces of cement grinding into his skin as he slipped. Annabeth yelled, rushing over.

"How bad are you hurt?" She asked, instantly taking control of the situation. Percy groaned in response, not bothering to pick himself up. Annabeth took out her phone and began dialing. "I'm calling your mom to pick us up. We need to get you some bandages and a anti-bacterial spray as soon as possible." Percy groaned again and hoisted himself up, arms burning. He cheek and forehead stung and there was a rip in both knees of his jeans. His palms had taken the majority of the punch, raw as the hamburgers of that grill that was shut down, and just as bloody.

"I'm fine," he said, lowering the phone. Annabeth looked at him skeptically.

"You're not fine, you probably can't even walk." But Percy just grabbed his skateboard and began walking towards the apartment. It hurt like the flames of the forge at camp, but he walked. Behind him, Annabeth rolled her eyes. "The apartments the other way."

Of course when they got back Sally freaked out and sprayed the crap out of his wounds. But it was the price of fun, and it was worth it. A few weeks later, Annabeth and Percy headed back to camp. They fell asleep in their cabins, after Annabeth had told him goodnight. When he next opened his eyes, he wasn't staring at the sea-green walls of his cabin.

He was staring at a wolf.

And he couldn't remember why.
