The Octagon Manor.

Its name comes not, as one might think, from the number of sides to the floorplan, but the number of angles in the building. Apparently, this was more than enough to earn the moniker of being ‘octagonal’ in its day.

Anyways, there were many spirits rumored to be there but the most famous and active spirits were the Tayloe family. It was said that one of daughters of John Tayloe III died after a freak accidental fall down the three-story staircase. Some have heard deathly screams at night yet they were the only ones in the house at the time. The earliest report of this ghastly occurrence dates back to 1908.

"(Y/n) come one we have to go!" Yelled Kat from downstairs. I quickly shut my laptop keeping the Octagon Manor open incase I decided to research a bit more on the way there. "Coming!" I answered shoving my laptop into my dark brown bag before slinging it over my shoulder and running down the stairs.

There sat Kat and Sam at the kitchen looking at something on his phone. Their eye snapped to mine, both of them giving me a smile, and they stood up grabbing their own bags.

"Is mine in the car already?" I asked, not seeing my other bag, full of clothes, at the door where I had previously left it.

"Yep. Colby took it to the car with his stuff." She affirmed, right before a honk was heard, from most likely Colby.

We all gave eachother a look, heading to the door and walked to the famous, one and only, corolla.

Music could already be heard from outside the car so I walked to Colby's window, peaking in. He was bobbing his head to the music which made me smile.

I knocked on the window, making him jump a bit, and he rolled it down, cracking it. "Where am I sitting?" I asked. I guessed I'd be in the back, but didn't want to assume. This is only the second 'ghost hunt' I've been on with them.

I've know Colby and Sam for about a year. I actually knew Kat first. Her and I had mutual friends and one thing led to another and now we're best friends. Six months later I met Sam and about a year after that I met Colby and the rest of the crew.

Colby told me I was in fact in the back with Kat. Telling me Sam had already called shotgun the day prior, which I think should be illegal, but I didn't really mind. Me and Kat usually either nap or chat eachothers ears off.

Three hours of rock music and research on the Manor, we finally arrived. The outside of the Manor was actually well kept compared to what the pictures showed. So no creepy ivy like I thought and a freshly trimmed lawn. Not so scary.

"Alright guys let's go walk through the house real quick before we start the video. The tour guide said he couldn't make it today because his car died." Sam announced to the small group. "He said that there isn't really much to worry about. Just don't break anything or piss anything off if we can."

Immediately me, Kat, and Colby laughed. We were totally making something want to kill us tonight. We usually did.

The first thing about the house I noticed when we first walked in was a weird smell. No, not a rotting smell, but like a vinegar smell. Unusual but not weird enough to note.

"This place is actually a lot cleaner than I thought it was going to be." Kat spun around slowly taking in all the attractions the house had to offer. Fresh flowers in flower pots, clean mirrors with no hand prints, and only slightly creaky floors. "Yeah. I guess they keep it pretty tidy."

"Oh look. Thats just great." Colby pointed to what looked like some really old vintage dolls right in front of a mirror. "Why is it always dolls." His lips pulled back in disgust, earning a small laugh from me.

"And there's another mirror over there." I pointed to another clean mirror with only one small blond doll sitting on the mantle. "Its right across."

The two mirrors were facing eachother, creating what is called a vortex, or a portal. Making it a whole lot easier for spirits to travel here.

Kat let out a sigh. "Great."

We spent the next thirty minutes doing a quick run through in the house. Just exploring a bit before we got to the intro of the video. We usually do the intro, then explore, but because the tour guide couldn't make it we were just scouting the house and making sure there were no unexpected guests besides ghosts and no faulty flooring. Sofar, both were good.

Sam went to the car and grabbed the camera, "where do we wanna shoot the intro?" He asked.

"How bout the front of the house. Right there." Colby pointed to a spot in the front lawn that had a good angle of the house. We all nodded and walked down the front steps.

Sam went first, then Kat, and I followed. All of the sudden the plank underneath my left foot snapped under the pressure of my foot making me rapidly loose my balance and head straight to the following steps.

Luckily a hand wrapped around my right bicep and another around my waist, stopping my brisk decline. "Woah woah." Colbys gravely voice gasps against my ear.

He pulled me back, extracting my foot from the hole, and set me on the top step. His hands slipped off of my arm and waist only to turn me around to face him and drift back to my waist. "Are you okay?"

"Yeah." I breathed out unconvincingly. I cleared my throat before repeating, "yeah. I'm good."

His eyebrows raised, "you promise? that was almost a nasty fall." By this point Sam and Kat had reached us.

"Are you okay?!" A worried Kat and Sam exclaimed. I quickly turned around to face them and give them the best 'totally okay' smile I could conjure and said, "Yep. Luckily-" I turned and set my right hand on Cobly's left bicep,"this guy caught me."

Kat and Sam looked at eachother, seemingly convinced. I mean I wasn't lying. The throb in my ankle was dull and would probably be fine in a few minutes or so.

And so we started the intro. The usual, hey it's Sam and Colby, we're here 'insert location' accompanied by so and so. Colby's hand kept brushing the small of my back throughout the intro which made it extremely hard to focus. But I put my big girl pants on and ignored it the best I could.

"Okay. That's the intro. Let's set up in the main living room area first and set up some cat balls and flash lights." Sam grabbed his backpack and I grabbed the other one with the spirit box, motion sensors, snacks, etc.

Colby's eyes caught mine for a second before he glanced away and bit his lip. Like he was holding back from saying anything. I squinted in his direction, which he didn't notice, and decided that whatever he was holding back, he would probably spit out soon enough.

"(Y/n),"

And there it is.

"How's your ankle?"

My eyes widened a little making sure I hadn't been limping, but I actually did feel fine. No more soreness or any aching. "Its all good now," I gave him a soft smile, "honest."

He nodded his head once and finally smiled back. "Thats good." His hand softly grazed my shoulder in a comforting touch, then he picked his pace up a bit, heading into the house before me.

"Okay! So it's said that many have felt cold spots and strange feelings on the stairs cases so we're gonna have our temp guns on us whenever we walk around but for now we're going to try and see if we can contact John Tayloe the third." Sam explained to the camera setting down the flash light while Kat and Colby set down the cat balls, one each in front of the flash lights. "Its been also mentioned that after John and his wife, Ann Tayloe, passed away, you can still hear bells ringing. Like a desk bell, which would be them calling for their servants."

Standing behind Sam I started to explain a bit more about the history of the house, but the sound of knocking interrupted.

"Did you hear that?" Colby whisper shouted, his right hand pointing to the air as everyone fell silent.

Knock, knock.

"No way!"

"What is that?"

Kat and I quickly moved away from the direction of the noise and closer to the boys. Cold air started tickling my cheek and I gasped. "Do you guys feel that?"

"What? What is it?" Colby asked taking one step closer before stopping himself and picked up the spare camera so both were facing me.

I brought my hand to my cheek, "I felt a cold breeze on my face? None of you felt that?" Theres no way I was the only one. That felt too real.

They all shook their heads. "Here for only fifteen minutes and spooky stuff is happening guys!" Sam exclaimed excitedly into the camera, turning it back on his face. "Now let's ask it some yes or no questions."

After about twenty minutes of asking questions and only getting a few answers we moved on. So far the ghost we were talking to was John Tayoe's wife, Ann Tayoe. She was very tight lipped about her death and if she knew anything about the deaths of her family members. Understandably. Who would want to talk about the death of the love of their life, and own children.

"Alright guys. Now we're gonna do what is called the Estes method," Colby put the camera light on so everyone could see our set up, "Kat has volunteered to do it first and sit in the chair that is said to be haunted."

"Colby, this whole house is haunted."

Everyone giggled and Colby's cheeks flushed a little. "What I mean," he began, "is that the ghost of Ann is consistently seen sitting in this very chair."

I patted his shoulder and he gave me a grin, handing me the camera to film while him and Sam asked some questions. His eyes stayed on mine, and I couldn't complain. Sometimes I forget how attractive he was. His raven hair always messy in a neat way framed his alurring blue eyes. His slight freckles, and his lips. His smile was definitely my favorite thing about him. It was so enchanting. Something almost airy about it. In the darkest times, his smile made you feel lighter. His smile was just perfect.

Sam coughed and both of up snapped out gazes away.

Colby cleared his through and grabbed the headphones, sliding them gently onto Kat's head, she already sporting the black blind fold.

I pointed the camera back to Kat, shaking any thought about how completely and utterly in love I am with the Colby Brock.

Before anyone could even ask any questions, Kat said one sentence that haunted us for the rest of the night.

"I want her."
