Sweeney Todd #2 (Sweeney Todd, Sequel to #1)
You don't know why you decide to go back to Fleet Street again. Maybe you want just want to be able to find out the truth about the disappearances. Yes, that's probably it. People are going missing inside Sweeney Todd's barbershop and you want to know why. Or it could be that you want to be the one to hand the murderer over to the police, if Sweeney Todd is a murderer. The idea of that seems pretty good in your head.
But above all, you're curious and afraid. If Sweeney Todd has been luring people into his barbershop to murder them, why is he doing it? What is he doing with the bodies and how does he get rid of them? And you're afraid because you don't want Sweeney Todd to come for you if you know suspect him of murder. He must know you suspect something of him. You would rather see him behind bars or see him hanged rather than be his next victim.
It is nighttime when you slip into the barbershop after it closes for the night. It's rather small, and certainly not big enough to be keeping bodies.
"So, you did come back."
Startled, you quickly turn towards the sound of the voice. Sweeney Todd stands in a corner, watching you.
"I thought I would wait to see if you came back," he said. "Now, tell me why I shouldn't get the police on you for this."
"Because if you do, I will tell them you're a murderer," you say, your voice shaking. "I know it's you, Mr. Todd. Why do you murder people? Why, when they haven't done anything to you?"
"If you believe that many people are innocent, then you are highly mistaken. I am removing scum from this world, and I am getting no thanks for doing so."
"Is that so?" you ask. "Why you? Why do you do such a thing?"
"Because it is easy. And it is not my real goal. There is...someone out there who must die, a man who ruined my life. It is only right I take his in return."
He looks back at you. "Go. Go now, before I decide to kill you. Go, never return, and never breathe a word of this unless you want your throat slit."
You nod. "Yes, sir. And sir...someone wanted me to warn you, about the woman who runs the pie shop, Mrs. Lovett. If she is helping you in all of this, be wary of her. It seems there may be more to her than you think."
He nods. "Very well. Now, get out."
You run out of the barbershop without hesitation at all. You did what the beggar woman wanted you to do, and you know the truth. You still can't go to the police, because you doubt they would believe you, so the only thing you can really do is stay as far away from Fleet Street as possible, and hope someone else catches Sweeney Todd.
