Your day started ordinarily enough. You met with Marius Pontmercy at the café is the morning, and after spending some time chatting together, Marius suggests you go with him in the afternoon to visit Cosette.

 "I am assuming this is the ladylove you mentioned?" you ask him.

 "Yes, it is. I love Cosette, and I would very much like you to meet her. I know you will like each other if you meet. Have you seen Eponine? I had hoped she would join us today."

 You shrug. "I haven't seen Eponine. I hope she hasn't gotten herself into any trouble."

 As two of you approach Cosette's home, you hear the sound of people arguing. It's two women's voices. Outside the gate of Cosette's house, you see Eponine with a blonde girl you assume is Cosette.

 "Well, I never liked you when you were children," Eponine is shouting. "I never liked you, and I never will."

 "Then leave me alone!" Cosette cries. "Marius and I want to be left in peace! He doesn't love you, Eponine, so it would do you well to leave us alone."

 Eponine slaps Cosette hard across the face, and the two of them begin to fight. You and Marius both run towards them, and it takes time to pull them apart.

 "All right, now." You turn to Cosette. "You are Cosette, aren't you? Are you all right?"

 She nods. "Yes. I was not expecting to see Eponine. She came here looking for Marius, and we...well, we didn't mean for that to happen."

 "I hope you didn't. You should be more careful, Cosette. Try not to get into any more fights. I'm Y/N, by the way. A friend of Marius."

 "I don't know what all of this is about, Eponine," Marius is saying to her, "But you know I see you as one of my closest friends. You know I love Cosette." 

 Eponine simply nods, and looks heartbroken.

 "Are you all right?" Marius asks Cosette.

 She smiles and nods. "Yes. Nothing to worry much about."

 "Very well. I love you." He gives her a kiss.

 "Now, what happened here?" you ask Eponine.

 "I...I hadn't meant to start a fight," she says. "I don't know what happened."

 "Eponine, is it true? The way you and your family treated Cosette when she lived with you?" Marius asks her. He looks angry.

 She nods, and looks guilty now. "Yes. It is true."

 You sigh. "Well, now that all that's over, I think we should all just in for tea and calm ourselves. That was what was planned before this happened, so we may as well stick to it."
