Kurt von Trapp #3 (The Sound of Music; Sequel to #2)
After your first encounter with the von Trapp family, you long to see them again sometime soon, especially Kurt, whom you're already becoming fond of. It's almost two weeks before you go out with Rolf again and convince him to take you back to the von Trapps' home again.
"Why do you want to go there so badly?" he asks you as the two of you ride your bicycles together.
"I just want to see them all again," you answer. "I liked them the last time I went there with you. There were very interesting." You pause a moment before adding, "I didn't know you were in love with Liesel von Trapp. You never said anything about it."
"I hadn't thought to," he says shortly, and you can tell from the tone of his voice that he doesn't want to talk about it.
When you stop outside the von Trapp family's home, it looks like the children are all playing outside again, and this time their stepmother Maria is with them.
"Hello, Rolf, Y/N," Maria greets you. "I'm afraid Captain von Trapp isn't here today. He's out on some business."
"Well, there's just this one for him today, ma'am," Rolf says, handing her a telegram. "Good afternoon."
While they're talking, you spot Kurt standing nearby. You smile and wave to him, and he waves back. You gently set your bicycle down on the ground and walk over to him.
"I'm glad you were able to come back," he says.
"So am I. Rolf doesn't usually like me following along," you say, "But today I talked him into it. It's a nice day to be out, anyway."
"That's what we thought. Have you ever climbed a tree?"
"Only once when I was younger," you answer, "And I think I nearly fell out of the tree while climbing back down. Would you be able to teach me to climb trees better?"
"Y/N!" Rolf calls. "We have to go."
"Well, if Y/N would like to stay for a few hours, I don't think anyone would mind," Maria suggests. "She and the children seem to be becoming good friends."
"Can't you come back for me later, Rolf?" you ask. "I promise I'll go home with you then."
He sighs, apparently deciding he isn't in the mood to argue with you. "All right. I'll be back."
After he rides away, Liesel comes out from behind a tree near where you and Kurt are standing. "He's gone, isn't he?"
"Yes, he's left," Kurt answers. "But he'll be back to get Y/N later."
"Oh, all right. I just didn't want to see him."
Gretl, the youngest of the siblings, also comes out from behind the tree. "I kept Liesel company. Hello, Y/N."
You smile. "Hello, Gretl." You're happy with yourself for being able to remember which sibling is which.
Maria comes over and picks up Gretl. "I was thinking of taking everyone out for a boat ride. Would you want to come with us, Y/N?"
You nod. "Yes, Mrs. von Trapp. It sounds exciting."
"Have you ever gone on a boat ride before?" Kurt asks you.
You shake your head. "I haven't. That's why it sounds exciting."
Despite the boat nearly toppling over a few times, the ride turns out to be fun. You're a little nervous during it, but you're mainly distracted by the siblings asking you a few questions about yourself. The only one who doesn't talk much is Kurt, but he seems to be listening closely to everything you say.
Later, Kurt helps you climb up one of the trees, and the two of you sit in its branches together. Birgitta sits under the tree with a book, Friedrich and Louisa race each other up a nearby tree, and Maria sit down on the ground with the other girls.
"I've been having a great afternoon," you say. "You're all very fun."
"I would have ask you to stay for dinner," Kurt replies, "But Rolf will probably come to get you before then, and Father will probably be back by then, anyway."
"Do you think your father would mind so much if we were friends?" you ask. "Maybe if he came on a boat ride with us, he'd like me."
He shrugs. "Maybe. He isn't one for climbing trees, though."
Soon after, Rolf rides up and calls, "Y/N! It's time to go home!"
You hurry down from the tree and call, "Yes, I'm coming!"
"Well, goodbye, Y/N," Maria says to you. "You're welcome to come back again anytime."
"Do come back again soon!" Kurt calls.
The other children give you goodbyes, too. You smile and wave to everyone as you get back on your bike.
"Well, I hope you're at least having fun there," Rolf says as you ride home.
"Of course," you say. "I don't think I could have had more fun."
