You have known Diaval for almost as long as you can remember. He has been the servant of your sister Maleficent for many years, and has also acted as a protector to you. But as time went by, something changed. You began to fall in love with him, and he with you. 

 Word can get around very quickly in Maleficent's forest, but no one knows about your love for Diaval besides Diaval and yourself. You're nervous about telling anyone and getting out in the open. It's not so much anything in the relationship itself, even though you wonder what anyone will think. It's mainly Maleficent. The thing you're most concerned about is what she will think when she discovers the romance between her sister and her servant. Maybe she wouldn't mind so much, but then again, maybe she would. You don't believe she would do anything bad to you or to Diaval, but the idea of it still worries you. 

 You know Diaval wants to get your relationship out in the open and just tell everyone, but you've repeatedly asked him not to tell anyone. He agrees every time, though somewhat reluctantly, and you continue to meet in the utmost secrecy. He, too, has seen what Maleficent can do when angry, and he understands why you want secrecy, even though you both know you'll have to tell everyone eventually.  

 That day does finally come when you, Diaval and Maleficent take a trip to visit Aurora and Philip. You know that Aurora has already guessed the true nature of the relationship between Diaval and yourself, but Maleficent still seems clueless, so Aurora must have also guessed why you're keeping it a secret. 

 "You should just tell her," she whispers to you. "It won't be so bad." 

 "I will," you whisper back. "Just not yet." 

 A friend of Philip's is also there visiting. You weren't paying attention when he was introduced, so you didn't hear his name, but you hear Philip refer to him as 'Hugo', so you assume that's his name. Whoever this Hugo is, he seems to like you, but you really don't have any interest in him, so you try to ignore him. 

 When you go with Aurora and Philip to see a new addition to the castle, Hugo smiles and holds out his arm to you. You're not sure whether you should actually take it or not, but you assume he's just being polite, so you loop your arm through his and begin to walk with him. Diaval is walking behind you, and although you can't see him and you know he'll keep his face calm anyway, you know he won't have a good reaction to this. 

 Everything seems fine at first, but then Hugo lowers his hand and holds yours, entwining your fingers with his. It makes you a bit uncomfortable; he seems alright, but you certainly rather not hold hands with him. You plan to pull your hand away and maybe just loop your arm back through his again, but then Dival steps up and pulls your hands apart. 

 "What are you doing?" Hugo demands. 

 "Keep your hands off her," Diaval growls. 

 "Or you'll do what?" Hugo steps around him and begins to move back towards you. 

 You look around nervously. Aurora and Philip haven't noticed the scene, but Maleficent does, and is watching curiously. While you're looking at them, you don't notice the men behind you. Diaval gave Hugo a shove, and Hugo shoved him back, which begins to turn into a real fight. You yell at them to stop, and you hear Philip call for the guards. Diaval manages to punch Hugo a few times before he is escorted away. You hurry after him, and Maleficent soon follows. All three of you return home silently together. 

 "I would like a moment alone with you, Diaval," Maleficent says to him, and you know you should leave them be. 

 Sometime later, Diaval comes to see you. You can't tell from the look on his face how his conversation with Maleficent went. 

 "That was quite the scene earlier," you say teasingly. "One man takes some sort of interest in me, and it's not long before he's on the ground, bloody and bruised." 

 He looks angry at your remarks. "Well, why wouldn't I have done something? You and I have been together for a year now. He had no right." 

 "Well, he didn't know that. And I wouldn't have kept holding hands with him. I didn't even like him, anyway." 

 He sits down next to you and kisses you. Then he jumps up again and yells, "You see that, everyone? Y/N and I are in love, and I don't care how many of you know it!" 

 He says to you, "I told Maleficent. She didn't seem like she minded all that much. I think she might actually be happy for us. Here, this is for you." He hands you a silver necklace with his name inscribed in it. "I meant to give it to you sooner, but I knew it would be rather obvious then if you walked around wearing it." 

 You take it from him and put it around your neck, deciding you'll wear it always.
