After the Cullen family left Forks, Bella Swan changed. She had originally been a little awkward, but she was a nice person, and the two of you became fast friends when she first moved to town to live with her father. When she begin dating Edward Cullen and then the summer came, you didn't see as much of her, but you stayed friends, and would talk often when the new school year started. 

 But then the Cullen family moved away. You hadn't heard they were leaving, and you had no idea where they went. All you knew was that Bella wasn't the same. For the first few months, she was obviously miserable. At school, she was silent and lonely, never wanting to spend time with anyone. You didn't even see her outside of school. Whenever you did try to approach her at school, she always seemed so distant, like she wasn't even listening to anything you were saying. 

 For two months, you give up and stop trying to talk to Bella. You stop trying to understand what's going on with her, because she apparently has no plans to help you understand, even though you made it clear you wanted to. 

 One day at school, you see her sitting alone in a table by the window, ignoring the food on her lunch tray. It hurts to see her obviously hurting and not doing anything about it. You walk over to her table and ask, "Can I sit with you?" 

 She looks up at you. "Yeah. Sure." 

 "Not hungry?" 

 She shrugs. "You can have it if you want." 

 You sigh. "Look, Bella, I'm sorry for what you're dealing with. I really am. I didn't know things were so serious between you and Edward. I guess I should have paid more attention." 

 "I love him," she says softly. "My dad suggested I go to Florida with my mom. He sees I'm not happy here. I can't leave, Y/N. He might come back." 

 "Yeah. I guess the Cullens could come back," you agree. "But while you're waiting for them to come back, why don't you and I hang out together? You know, let's go do some stuff, the two of us. That way, your dad won't think you're sad and lonely and send you to Florida, and we can wait for Edward to come back. If he loves you too, he'll come back." 

 For the first time since Edward left, Bella seems to really notice you. "Okay," she says. "Let's."

 You never expected the Cullens to actually come back. In fact, you thought they were gone for good. You've believed that by getting Bella to go out and do things with you, it can help her get over Edward. You weren't expecting to fall for Bella, but you do. That's why you're upset when Bella goes running off with Alice Cullen to find Edward. You try not to be disappointed when the Cullens move back to Forks, but the disappointment is there. 

 You don't see much of Bella after that, but one day you finally do get an afternoon together. 

 "How's everything with the Cullens back?" you ask her. 

 "It's better," she answers. "Everything's better." 

 Bella herself seems happier now, and that's what bothers you. Only Edward could make her that happy. 

 "Well, that's great," you say. "Are you and Edward back together?" 

 "I think so. It's a long story, but he never stopped loving me." 

 "Oh. That's...good for you two, then." 

 You understood how Edward wouldn't be able to fall out of love with Bella. You wish it was you instead of Edward, but it isn't. You doubt she would choose you over him, but you can still let her know she has another option if she wants you.
