"Are you sure this is a good idea?" My mom looked at the ferry wearily, as if it were dangerous, "I can still take you back home."
"Mom, come on," I rolled my eyes, tired of her trying to convince me to stay, "This is going to be good for me. I'll be more cultured."
"I know, it's just...you're going to be so far away," Mom pulled me in for a hug, "Be safe, alright? Call me when you can, come back home if you get homesick."
"I will," I pulled my bag behind me as I boarded the ferry. I had no intention of going back home before the end of the summer, but it was what my mom needed to hear to calm down.
I was travelling to Kalokairi for the summer to work and relax. I had just quit my job so I could do something exciting with my life. This was the first step towards feeling more fulfilled.
After the slow and long ferry ride, surrounded by strange people, the ship docked at the island. I pulled my luggage behind me, eyes preening for the woman I would be working for.
"You're (Y/n), aren't you?" A blonde woman approached me, "You don't have that Greek air about you."
"Yeah, I am. And you're Donna?"
"You bet I am," Donna chuckled, hands finding a home in her overall pockets, "I've got the cart just up the hill."
Donna took my bag for me, leading me to a utility golf cart. I sat down in the passenger seat, holding onto the side bar as we started down the bumpy path. Donna drove with the utmost confidence, paying no mind to the shaking of the cart. I, on the other hand, was scared for my life.
"You're here just in time actually. A lot of people are coming for the summer. Including Sophie's dads."
"Dads?" I asked curiously, grip lossening on the side when I got distracted.
"Three of them. I'm married to one of them, the other two aren't married to each other. They didn't even know each other until a few years ago. It's a long story."
"I've got all summer to hear it," I encouraged. Something told me the story behind Sophie's dad would be interesting and funny.
Donna began to explain to me the events of a few ago, where Sophie- her daughter who was my age- invited her three possible dads to her wedding. She ended up with three dads instead of none, and Donna married Sam, the architect.
"That's insane," I stated, gripping the side again when Donna came to a sharp stop, "You could make a movie out of that."
"Maybe a musical," Donna agreed with a laugh, "It'd be more interesting that way."
"I can take that," I took my bag from Donna as she took it off of the back.
"Your room is on a lower floor, so you don't have too many stairs to go up," Donna began to lead me to my room, "But there are a lot of stairs you'll be going up while cleaning."
"That's fine," I waved my hand dismissively, "Just means I'll be getting some good cardio in. Mine as well stay in shape while I'm here."
Donna laughed heartily, "That's a good way to think about it. Take tonight to explore and settle in, tomorrow I'll show ya the ropes."
"Sounds amazing, thank you so much."
Donna left me alone in my room. I moved my clothes from my suitcase to the dresser, taking note that one of the drawers was difficult to shimmy open.
Deciding to take advantage of my free time, I left the hotel and meandered into the small but lively town. Shops lined the streets, bright colors and patterns calling out for my attention. People were going about their daily business, calling out greetings to each other often.
"God, I'm hungry," my eyes landed on a small cafe tucked away in a corner, "Perfect."
Stepping inside, my eyes were instantly drawn to the stage in the center. Two women were sitting near the small structure, chatting idly while eating their food. Interesting for a stage to be there, but I figured it was for performances like karaoke or something.
"Welcome," a waitress motioned towards a table. It took me a few seconds to decipher what she said through her thick accent. She set a menu down in front of me, "I'll be back in a few minutes."
After she left, I decided on my meal and stood up. I ran my fingers over the edge of the stage, resisting the urge to jump up onto it.
"Interested in singing up there?" The taller of the tow women spoke up.
"Oh no, I don't-"
"We used to sing on that stage, with Donna," the shorter sighed nostalgically.
"Donna?" Something clicked inside of my mind, "Don't tell me you two are Tanya and Rosie."
"In the flesh," Tanya waved her hand with a flourish, "How do you know Donna?"
"I'm working for her over the summer," I explained.
"How amazing, another person we can drag into our adventures. You're gonna have a lot of fun on Kalokairi."

"Oh, (Y/n)!" Donna grabbed my arm, pulling me away from my cleaning cart, "Sophie and Sky just got here. You have to come with me to meet them at the docks!"
Over the past week I had met the group that Donna considered family. Tanya and Rosie loved to sing little songs and bicker. Sam helped me figure out how the hotel operated, Harry loved telling me about his dogs, and Bill was full of stories about his adventures while sailing.
Riding the golf cart down the tremulous path to the docks, I spotted Sophie almost immediately, Sky next to her. Sophie had the same spiraling hair as her mom, telling me exactly who she was.
"Sophie!" Donna sprinted down the docks to her daughter, nearly knocking her into the water as she hugged her. She then gave Sky a gentler hug, "Oh, I'm so glad you're here. Come, come, there's someone I want you to meet."
Donna led the pair down the dock towards the golf cart. I stepped off, holding out my hand while smiling happily.
"This is (Y/n), she's working for me for the summer."
"It's nice to meet you two," I shook both of their hands, "I've heard a lot about you."
"That's only a bit frightening," Sophie giggled, "It's nice to know mom has someone helping out. I thought she would be too stubborn to hire someone."
"Taking the job, I had no idea what I was getting into. I've only been here for a week but I'm used to it."
"Just sing a song and keep working," Donna joked, "ABBA is our favorite, I raised Sophie on it."

Within a month of working on Kalokairi I had completely adapted to the craziness. Sophie and I were drawn to each other immediately, our close ages forming a friendship right away.
Thinking about leaving Kalokairi was devastating, I didn't want to. This was my fulfillment, my adventure. Even if everyone only came over the summer, it was totally worth it to stay for the rest of the year. Donna and Sam were crazy enough. So, after talking with Donna, she agreed to let me work full time.
Full of joy about the happy news, I was currently going through the rooms and cleaning. After finishing the first floor I moved on to the second. Sophie and Sky's room was on this level.
"Hey Soph, Sky, can I come in and clean?" I knocked on the door gently, leaning in to hear their reply.
"Come back later," it was Sophie, voice hoarse and shaking.
"Sophie? Are you okay? Can I come in?"
I was already opening the door before she gave her answer. Curled up near the window, it was beyond obvious she had been crying. I rushed over and knelt down next to her.
"What going on?" I questioned, hands on her shoulders.
"Sky and I had an argument," she sniffled, "He wants to keep travelling but I want to stay here, at least for another year or two. I miss Kalokairi, I miss my mom and Sam. He went down to the beach to think. I don't want to lose him (Y/n)."
"You aren't going to lose him," I pulled the small girl into a hug, "Marriage can be hard, but the foundation is love. Nothing can break through that Soph."
"I'm scared that if I talk to him we'll argue again."
I wasn't entirely sure what to say to that. I wasn't married, and hadn't been in a super serious relationship before. A stray thought floated through my mind. Not knowing of anything better, I better to sing quietly.
"We gotta have patience. Love isn't just a sensation. Some of the time it gets rough. Love isn't easy but it sure is hard enough. Giving love is a reason for living. But a few things can be tough. Love isn't easy but it sure is hard enough."
"That's ABBA," Sophie chuckled, wiping her eyes, "Love isn't easy."
"But it sure is hard enough," I finished, helping her stand up, "Whether or not you argue again doesn't matter. If you don't talk to him, then it won't be resolved no matter what. Stay calm, have patience. Don't stay angry."
"Thanks (Y/n)," Sophie grabbed a sweatshirt from her closet, "I'm gonna go talk to him."

An hour later I was in my room reading a book. I had finished my cleaning rounds, spotting Sophie and Sky on the beach. Things seemed okay so I left them alone. Singing for Sophie put me in an ABBA mood, so I was playing one of their discs in my computer.
Knock knock knock
"Just a second," I bookmarked my page, setting my book down and rushing to the door. Both Sophie and Sky were standing there, smiling, "Hey."
"Hey," Sophie glanced over at Sky, "We talked things out. And I just wanted to say thanks, for the advice."
"No problem," I leaned against the doorframe, "I'm glad you two worked things out."
"Yeah," Sky began to speak, "There was one other thing we wanted to tell you. We thought you could be the first to know."
At this point the last song had ended and a new one came on. Mamma Mia, a classic really.
Sophie grinned, her eyes sparkling, "I'm pregnant."
"Mamma Mia! Here I go again."
