It's been months since Sonic first found out about Shadow's little side.
It's been only a few weeks since Sonic and the gang convinced Shadow to escape from Dr. Eggman and stay with Sonic at his house.

There were many massive arguments, there were disagreements, Shadow even one time threatened to go back to Eggman.
But soon.. he felt safe around everyone. His little side felt reassured that things weren't going to be the same as they used to be.
Sonic could be trusted and so could his friends.

Shadow one day apologized to the group, he was afraid they wouldn't accept it. But to his surprise, they did.
Sonic had agreed to being Shadow's full time caregiver, and now it's just them against the world.

"Cmon bub! The sun won't be out for so long!"
Sonic chuckled. Today was the day Sonic had promised to have a play day outside at the beach! His house isn't too far away from a big body of water and sand- so he just calls that the beach.

"I cwomin!"
Shadow was in a different room, a closet. Sonic didn't have a room of his own, he only slept on a hammock after all.
Sonic wanted Shadow to have privacy, so he and tails built a more comfortable area in the closet for him.

It had vibrant lights, fluffy floor, a sleeping bag, and some stuffed animals on the floor. Of course, when Shadow was big, they could get rid of some of the things in a flash. Shadow has been in his little headspace for awhile now, so it's been like this for a couple of days.

"Hmm.. aha! Otay here I cwome!"
He grabbed his favorite stuffed animal and went running to where Sonic was.

"I bwing teddy, twoday."

Shadow showed the stuffed animal to Sonic with a small smile on his face.
Sonic's heart warmed up from the choice, it was the first one Sonic gave him since he came. He has plenty that the gang gave him! But for some reason that teddy bear is his favorite. He sleeps with it almost every day.

"That's awesome bud! You ready?"

Shadow nodded.

"Alright, let's go!"
Sonic held out his hand for Shadow to hold, Shadow slowly but surely put his hand in Sonics.

There was a fantastic breeze outside. The sun was out, the sand felt just perfect.
It was currently the afternoon, so it wasn't too hot, not too cold. Perfect for a little playtime!

Shadow was sitting down on the sand, looking at the water. For so long he's been working for Eggman, it was hardly ever he would be able to go outside and enjoy something without fighting being involved.
It was nice just to relax.

"Sooo.. watcha wanna do?"
Sonic asked.

Shadow shrugged.
"I no know."
He said plain and simply, his thumb started to drift in his mouth, but Sonic gently took the thumb away. Shadow started daggers at Sonic.

"Oh cmon, don't look at me like that. How about we do something fun?"
Sonic stood up then stretched, "Sonic's way of fun."

Shadow tilted his head in confusion,
"What twhat mean?"

"Well I'm glad you asked, kiddo! My way of fun? Running laps around the island. Me and you, racing! What do you say?"

Shadow whined, "Cwant.. I nwo have special shoes no mwore."

"Oh.. right, sorry for opening that wound."
Sonic shook it off and went towards Shadow, he held out his hand for him, "I have a second, of course genius, idea."

Shadow took Sonic's hand and stood up. He held his teddy bear in his other arm.

Without any more words Sonic picked up Shadow bridal style, the little one's face turned red a slight bit.

"Okay so, my genius idea is I'll just hold you, then me and you can run around! No race included, what do you think, hm?"

Shadow's eyes sparkled with excitement, he nodded ecstatically.

"Alright! Make sure to hold your stuffed friend tight then we'll be ready for take off!"

Shadow held his stuffie close, giggling as he did so.

"Okay.. we're off in 1, 2, 3..!!"

And in a matter of seconds Sonic was already running laps around the island.
Shadow could hardly see anything sense they were going so fast but he enjoyed the hard wind that brushed against his face. It was so refreshing!

But to his dismay, Sonic's running came to a halt.
"Phew! That was 5 rounds! That has to be a new record for me."

"Agwain!"
Shadow cheered, his legs were swinging back and forth.

"Sorry kiddo, that really tired me out!"
Sonic placed down Shadow, the little one started to pout. "But hey! We can still do tons of stuff!"

Shadow pointed to the water, "Swim?"

Sonic shook his head frantically, "Oh no, no no.. okay I take back my first statement, there's tons of stuff to do EXCEPT swimming.. I can't really swim."

Shadow tried his best to hold in a chuckle by puffing you his cheeks, but Sonic could still tell he was laughing.

"H-hey! I haven't got to taking classes yet.. don't rub it in you little punk!" Sonic said jokingly, he picked up Shadow and gave him a noogie.
Shadow started laughing more out loud now,
"Hahaha!! Stawwwppp!!"

Sonic only did this for a few more seconds before he placed Shadow down on the sand again.
He sat himself down also.
"Well.. there isn't really as much to do as I thought out here, sorry buddy."

"It otay. I still hwave fun."

Sonic smiled, "Hah.. I'm glad. Shadow, tell me honestly. Are you happy here? Like with me and the gang?"

Shadow turned over to Sonic with nothing but innocence. His face was expressionless before he spoke,
"Yweah. I wike 'ou and the owthers. They fwunny and 'ice."
Shadow scooted more closer to Shadow, a small yawn came out of him.

"I wike new home.. iwt mwake my hweart happy."

Sonic's heart melted, it feels like he was melting literally because of how sweet Shadow is.

Sonic patted Shadow on the back,

"I'm so glad kiddo.. I'm so glad!"
