Regression was hard.
You would think it would be easy, but for Papyrus, it wasn't. Ever since he and Sans talked about age regression he hasn't been able to fall into the state of mind since. The poor skeleton has been trying for weeks, and no dice.
He always feels that he might be able to, but he doesn't know how to give himself that push to fall into the state of mind he desires to be in.

He tried to listen to what his brother told him, but.. He didn't even understand what the heck he was talking about half the time when they had that talk!

~Couple Days Ago~

"Why don't you try listening to your soul, bro? That helps me all the time."

Papyrus blankly stared at his brother, then sighed.
"Sans, thank you for your input, but what in Asgore's name do you mean? Everyone in the underground seems to be able to but I can't! Even Frisk can and they're not even a monster!"

Papyrus sat down on the couch and started to rub his bony head, clearly frustrated.
Sans sat down along with him and started to pat his shoulder.
"It's not something you can force yourself to do, bro. Your soul just will talk to you, like a voice of consciousness. Trust me Pap, your soul will tell you what it needs eventually."

Papyrus slightly smiled at the words of reassurance, "Thank you, brother.."

To this day Papyrus still wasn't hearing a small inner voice like Sans he would.
"Maybe age regression just isn't for me..?"

...

Papyrus quickly shook his head at the thought. He still wanted to keep trying.

"Buuuut, before I try again.. I must go to the grocery store, groceries aren't gonna grocery themselves!"
Papyrus got out of his bed and started to rub his Bone Cologne on himself, Sans got him it for Christmas and he's been wearing it ever since! He put on his signature scarff, and started to make his way downstairs.

"I'm going to the store Sans! Do you need anything?!"
Papyrus shouted.

"Nope! Thank you bro!"

"Okay, then! I'll be back!!"
Papyrus grabbed his reusable shopping bag from the coat rack and opened the door, and started walking in the white fluffy snow yet again.

~At the Store~

"Let's see..Noodles, Sauce, Ketchup, Milk.. hm, since when did me of Sans ever drink milk?"

Papyrus questioned, he needed just shrugging it off. Maybe Sans wanted to make something with it?

As he walked down all the Ilses, he noticed a certain eye out the corner of his eye socket, it made him stand dead in his tracks.
"Toys..?"
He smiled, "I bet I could find something for the human! They deserve it."

He marched to the toy section and started to look at the huge selection, it was like it was endless!
Teddy bears, Rattles, Dolls, Ducks.. Cars.. toy trains..?

"Get one for yourself."

"I- What?"
Papyrus was just standing there. He shook his head and began to start looking again, but that same feeling started coming back..

"Get something for yourself. You know you want to."

"Ugh.. no!"
Papyrus made a small grip on his head and tried to rub his head gently, despite being a skeleton, he was still a monster. He and other monsters had the ability to get headaches and head irritations just like a human would.
It sucked.

"Is this the voice sans was talking about.? Gosh, it's already starting to be annoying.."

"Be Little, i know you can. You just gotta give that little push."

Papyrus felt overwhelmed.. everyone around was starting to make him angry, the voice made him scared, the wall of toys made his mind fuzzy.. What was happening to him?!

He dropped the bag and started to run to the exit, the only thing that mattered was going home!

~Later~

"Stupid.. fuzzy feeling.."
Papyrus after all this, went back to his room. He didn't want to go back to the store. He didn't want to go anywhere. He just wanted to stay in his room and think about his thoughts..
but there was only one thought on his mind.

Why couldn't he regress?

He did once, so he thought he would be able to again. But nothing was working, nothing could make him fall into that mindset he wanted to go in again.. it made him want to cry almost.
All the thoughts, his soul talking to him..
It was messing with his mind!

*Creak*

"Bro? You good? You came in a hurry."
Sans closed the door behind him, and sat down next to his grieving brother.

"..My soul started to talk to me like you said it would.."
Papyrus admitted, Sans wanted to be excited but he could tell his brother's tone wasn't in his usual carefree mood. Something had to be wrong.

"That's good, that's progress at least, right?"

Papyrus nodded,
"But.. *Sigh* Sans it won't be quiet!"
Papyrus turned to Sans, gripping onto his brother's shoulders as if his life depended on it.
Sans wasn't frightened however. He knew ever since Papyrus walked in the door he was feeling tense, this is just all of it coming out.

"I.. I wanna try, I really really do.. but how can I when I don't know how?! I try playing with the stuff, I try using my blanket, but none of it gives me that extra push! I-I just don't know what to do anymore.."

Without hesitation,

Any at all,

Sans brought his brother into a hug, rubbing the back of his clothing.
They haven't hugged like this in a long time. It was something they did only when Sans had nightmares usually, but that hasn't been often.
So Sans was going to help Papyrus like Papyrus has been helping Sans all these years.
He wanted to repay the favor.

"It's okay bro.. not knowing what the extra push is, that's okay. Sometimes, regressing can take a long time. A long time for that mindset to be ready, Y'know? Me and you.. we can find ways to give you that extra push, Papyrus. Your soul wants it, you want it, I can tell. And you're being so brave going through the things you did today with your thoughts, cause trust me.. I know thoughts sometimes aren't the nicest. But the thing is bro, you can do this. Don't be afraid to push that extra to get you to regress.. you gotta let your big responsibilities go, and leave the behind for awhile.. you deserve it Papyrus. You truly do."

...

..

"Jeez, sorry bro I kind of started rambling there.."

Sans went to let go, but Papyrus didn't let'em. He held on tight, "..Dwont go.. Pwease stay.."

...

"He did it. He did it!!"
Sans in the inside, literal fireworks were going off. He was so proud of his brother for slipping!!
But he knew he had to play things cool.

He chuckled a bit,
"Sure thing, kiddo.."
He brought his brother into a hug once more.

"I'm super proud of you for letting go, Papyrus. That was very brave of you."

Papyrus was shifting around a bit,
"Bwave..? I Bwave?"

Sans smiled wide,

"Of course you are. The bravest Royal Guard out there."
