It's been years.. years since Karai has been home.
Years since Karai had heard the name Miwa.
Years since Karai had seen Splinter.

Ever since Karai had abandoned her old home, no, ever since she escaped that old prison, she had been living with the turtles and Splinter.
It's going to take a lot of getting used to, but Karai was ready to learn more about her father and her brothers.. fighting for good, fighting against Shredder, is everything she had been dreaming for.

But what made her the happiest was learning about her father. He's been telling her nonstop stories ever since she's came here.. it was a cool way to pass the time, especially since she couldn't leave the lair.
Splinter is very overprotective of her now. Even when she insists she wants to help on patrol she gets turned down from her brothers and Splinter. It made her upset most times, but she could understand where they were coming from.

Right now, Splinter and Karai were meditating while the Turtles were out on patrol.

It was silent, calming, there was a beautiful scent of rosemary from the candles around the two.

"Father, when will I be able to go out of the Lair? I'll be okay on my own, and with the turtles I'll-"

"Miwa, no. I can't afford loosing you again, musume.
It is too risky."
Splinter muttered, still his eyes were closed.

"You're treating me like I'm a kid, I'm 17. I can handle things maturely."

"I am aware. But me and you both know that you could regress in battle, it wouldn't be worth the risk."

Karai sighed at the mention of her regression. It wasn't until recently when Karai brought that up to Splinter and the turtles.
Come to find out Leo age regressed too, so they already knew tons about it. But she wished they didn't hold that against her all the time when she wanted to help. Especially Leo, he regressed too! It wasn't all fair.

"I guess.."
Karai sighed, closing her eyes once again, continuing to meditate.

She gulped before speaking up again, "Also.. father, you don't think it's odd, or strange, that me and Leonardo regress..?"
She asked, bracing herself for the worst.

"Miwa, really?" Splinter chuckled, "I am a mutant rat man, nothing can be weird to me anymore." He scooted closer to Karai, placing a hand on her shoulder for comfort.
"I am just kidding, but seriously. I could never judge you or Leonardo. You are my children, my students. As your parental figure I want to make sure you are your happiest..no matter what."

Karai smiled, leaning in more to Splinter.
"Yeah.. I figured. Sorry it's just, I can't get Shredder out of my head. He sucked, he said terrible things..I-I guess I just needed that reassurance, so.. thank you."

"Miwa.. listen to me." Splinter stood up from where he was sitting, starting to stroke his beard as well.

"Back to that day where I lost you, when I thought you died.. I was at my lowest. I lost your mother, then you? I felt like I was nothing more then a shell without you two in my life. But then.. well, I turned into this, but your brothers came into my life. They were a blessing, all of them reminded me of you in away when they were only infants."

Splinter took a deep breath before speaking again,

"When they were grown enough, I let them out to the surface, as you know...But when Leonardo told me they found you, that you were alive.. I froze. I knew I needed to keep my cool, as they say, but it was hard. Now that you're here, I want to provide you with a life that you never got to full live, Miwa."

He went close Karai again, kneeling down to her level, "I will never disrespect you, judge you, or harm you. I only want to care for you.. like I did for my sons. We could be like, like a family."

..

"Family."

Karai has always wanted a family. To have a structure, people in her life where she felt reassured that they'd be their for her, and that she'd be their for them.
She loves her brothers, and she loves her father.. all of this was enough to make her cry.

Not tears of fear, not tears of sadness, not even tears of happiness.
But tears of reassurment.
Tears of knowing that everything is going to be okay, once in her life she feels a bit of reassurance.

Karai hugged Splinter, a single tear being shed from her eye, "I-I love you father.."

Splinter hugged back,

"I love you more Miwa.. more than you know."
