"Do we really have to do this?"

"Well, yeah! It isn't my first choice either but it's required by the school, soo.."

Maki dreaded today.
Classification day.

She knew that this day was going to come once she was in her Junior Year of Highschool.. but dammit why did Junior Year come so quick?!

Kaede wasn't too excited for it either, but she didn't mind doing it. All that was going to happen is that they would get their Student ID's and draw some blood. Classifications are in peoples DNA. For example, let's say someone's family had a track record of being caregivers, it would be a 90% chance they were going to be a caregiver too.

Maki didn't even know her family, so this was going to be a complete surprise. But she had one idea in mind and that was: she was not going to get little.
Ultimate Assassin? A little?? That's unlikely.

"Maki Harukawa and Kaede Akamatsu! You're ready to be checked in."
The intercom practically roared.

Kaede gave Maki a reassuring look, "Well.. are you ready for this, babe?"

"As ready as I'll ever be.."
Maki squeezed Kaede's hand as if it were her own stress ball as they walked into the room. There were two chairs next to each other, and two doctors next to each one. One female and one male.

"Both of you please sit down wherever you'd like. This should only take a moment, and we'll get your results in under 8 minutes."
The two nodded and sat down in each chair.
The doctors didn't give warning while drawing their blood. Maki didn't even flinch while Kaede yelped in pain.

~One Blood Draw Later-

"Not too bad, right? Sorry if we caused any discomfort! But the two of us should be back in under 5 minutes. Sit tight for us."
The doctors excused themselves out of the room, Kaede made a sigh of relief.

"Phew.. now the hard part is finally over. I hate drawing blood."

"That was the hard part? The hard part is getting classified.. it's embarrassing."

"Is noooot! It won't be that embarrassing, decides.. if anything we don't really have to tell anybody. It can stay between just me and you, babe."
Kaede rubbed circles on Maki's back for comfort, "I don't think they'll bring any of this up at school."

"Maybe they won't.. but professors will. They might switch my classes and they'll treat me different.. I won't be able to deal with that Kaede.."

"Then we can deal with it together."
Kaede stopped her circle rubs and gently grabbed Maki's hands, "No matter what classification I get, no matter classification you get, we're still going to have each other. I'll never leave your side, Maki! I promise."

A bizarre feeling filled Maki's head. Her eyes filled with tears.. she hasn't felt this way in a long time. It's felt like forever since she cried.. not because she hasn't felt sad, but because she's never felt physically able to since the orphanage. It was like she's cried all the tears she's ever had.
But now they're coming back.

She quickly wiped them away from her eyes and put her hands back in Kaede's.
"Y-You're right. Thank you, babe..Sorry I'm getting all worked up about this. It's huge, Y'know? This basically puts you out into the world without even intentionally doing it."

"You don't need to thank me, Maki! We got each others backs, that's what we do for each other. I have yours, you have mine."
Kaede giggled.

Maki never understood how Kaede was always so full of energy, full of positivity.
Before Maki met Kaede her world was just a Lena's of black and white. The world was a cold and gruesome place.

But Kaede, she was like the color in her life. She never knew someone could be.. so reassuring. So welcoming. So calm. So kind. Everything about her pulled Maki's heart strings in the right places.

Knock Knock

Only one doctor came in this time. He had two papers in his hand. Maki could feel her heart beating out of her chest.
"Thank you for your patience, I have the results back. You can look at these for awhile in the room or you can look at them when you go back to your homes. Whichever makes you two feel more comfortable. Other than that, you're free to go."

The two said thank you and waited till the doctor left.

"So, do you want to go first?"

"Hell no,"
Maki chuckled, "You go first, you weren't expecting anything were you?"

"Not really! I guess I'll be okay with whatever I get."

Kaede took a deep breath then turned her piece of paper over,

Kaede Akamatsu
Age: 17
Birthday: March 26th
Classification: Caregiver

"Woah! I don't think I was really expecting that. Can you really see me as a caregiver, Maki?"

Kaede was rambling about her suspensions, but Maki's heart dropped. To be honest she was hoping Kaede would get little or at least flip so if she got one of those two it would numb it down a bit.

Now it was all or nothing.

Maki turned over the paper,

Maki Harukawa
Age: 17
Birthday: February 2nd
Classification: Little

Maki didn't say anything, but her expression said it all. Kaede looked up to her lover and frowned.
"Not what you were expecting..?"
Kaede asked trying to lighten the mood. 

Maki still didn't say anything, but instead gave Kaede the paper. Shoving it into her hands.
"I knew it.. I-I knew it.."
Maki's breaths started to become ragged, "This has to be wrong..! I can't be this!! I cant!!"

Before Maki could do anything else Kaede held Maki into a hug. She didn't let her get out of the strong grasp despot Maki's small attempts to get out.

"Maki.. it's going to be okay. I know this is confusing, and.. I know this isn't what you wanted. But this doesn't change who you are-"

"Kaede you don't get it.. it does change who I am.. what will people do when they find out I am a little? What will I do if our friends find out? Would they even want me around anymore..?"

"Maki! Don't talk like that, of course they'll still want to hang out with you. If anything, I'm pretty sure there are other littles in our school. Maybe not in our class, but I know for a fact some upper classmates are."
Maki stopped squirming.. she just stayed still.
"Being a little is nothing to be ashamed about, babe. I-I don't really know much about it.. but I'm willing to learn! And as your girlfriend, help. We can figure this all out together! Hell, maybe Ill be able to find something out about myself too! With this whole caregiver thing? Point is.. we just have to take this steps at a time. It's going to take some time and work, but we got this."

Kaede pulled away from the hug and put both of her hands on Maki's shoulders,
"Me and you, Maki. We can do this together."

Maki could practically melt in Kaede's arms. Her words were full of hope and love. She always knew what to say.. one of the many reasons Maki fell in love with her long ago.
She was truly lucky to have someone like Kaede in her life.

Maybe.. this would be worth while to at least try. Maybe Kaede was right.

Maki cracked a small smile,

"..I'd like that.. me and you dealing with this together."

"Hehe! I'm glad you like that idea, babe.. I love you."

"I love you too, sweetheart."
