Chapter 21
Varun's POV:
After us relaxing ourselves in the bath I had drawn for the both of us, we both laid down in bed. She was wearing my shirt as I was only in my boxers. She snuggled up against me as I wrapped my arm around her.
"What time do we have to leave in the morning?" She asked in a sleepy voice.
"Well we could leave at 5." I say twirling her hair around a finger of mine.
"Why so early?" She whines.
"Well I don't know what time your family wakes up, specifically your dad." I say.
"He wakes up at 7." She says snuggling into me.
"Okay, so we shall get up at 6." I say and she groans making me chuckle. "You of course can sleep in the car." I added and I feel her lips curve up into a smile.
"Yay!" She says letting out a small giggle. She traces patterns on my chest as I twirl her hair around my finger.
"Varun?" She calls for me as I hum in response. "Do you think I'm right for you? Like I'm the right person for you?" She asks randomly. I look down at her to find shes already staring at me.
"Why would you ask that?" I asked.
"I don't know. I guess knowing that my marriage with Vikram is literally around the corner, and that I do feel you have changed Dad's mind with you being here. But then again I'm not sure." She says.
"Well of course you are right for me, there's no one else for me apart from you."
"How do you know that there's no one else for you other than me?" She asks tracing patterns on my chest.
"Because I won't feel the way I feel for you with any other girl." I say and she hums. "What about you?" I asked her.
"Well I know I'm new to this and technically you are my first love, some people don't forget their first love." She says.
"Well, Miss Kapoor that was a trick question and you have passed without a doubt!" I teased her and she giggles as I kissed her forehead chuckling.
"I don't want this night to end." She says. "I felt so at peace, spending time with you without any disturbances or any restrictions." She adds and I nodded.
"I'm sure by the end of my time here, we'll have plenty of nights that won't end." I smirk wiggling my eyebrows, she rolls her eyes with a smile playing on her lips as she smacks my chest.
"What time is it?" She asks yawning. I lean over to glance at the time off my phone which revealed it was half past 3.
"Its 3:30 in the morning." I say stroking her hair. Before I knew it, she falls asleep in my arms. I then drift off into a slumber only to be woken up by my alarm 3 hours later.
"Shraddha, we have to go." I gently shake her as she lays on her side in a deep sleep.
"Noo, I'm tired!" She mumbles in her sleep making me chuckle.
"I'll carry you out in just my shirt, I hope you know that I will." I say in a firm tone and her eyes snap open. Obviously I wouldn't carry her in just my shirt.
"You are crazy." She grumbles getting out of bed, realizing she's only wearing my shirt.
"Yes I am crazy about you!" I blow her a kiss and she rolls her eyes.
"Can you um, can you turn around so I can put on my clothes?" She says holding her clothes in her hands.
"Babe, I've already seen you." I say walking towards her. "No need to be shy in front of me especially." I say holding her hands.
"I know, but knowing you probably just seeing me in this shirt might make you wanna go for round two." She presses her thighs together. I smirk, leaning in to kiss her neck softly. Her hands thread through my hair as I feel her slowly relaxing against my lips. "I'm still sore." She whispers and I huskily chuckle detaching my lips from her neck.
"Even if you weren't wearing my shirt, I'd still wanna go for round two." I smirk and her eyes widen but I chuckle. "I'm joking about going for round two right now though." I add and she smiles rolling her eyes. I turn around and let her put her clothes on.
"Okay I'm ready." She says and I turn around and I smile with content in my eyes. "How do I look?" She asks, bringing her arms to wrap around my neck.
"Beautiful like always, but really sleepy." I tuck her hair strands behind her ear.
"I am." She whines and I peck her lips.
"We're leaving right now, you'll get to sleep in the car and if you're still tired when you get home you can head back to sleep." I suggest and she nods. I take her hand in mine and lead her to the car. I open the door for her and help her get in. I close the door and head over the drivers side.
I get in and pull out from my parking spot and start driving back towards Shraddha's house. Within the drive, I kept looking over to see if Shraddha was okay but I noticed she had fallen asleep. I reached over and took her hand in my free hand and interlocked our fingers while I drove back to her home.
"Babe." I gently shake her awake and she flutters her eyes open. "We're here." I lean over and plant a kiss on her cheek.
"Already?" She asks in her cute sleepy voice.
"Yes, you slept the entire drive back." I kiss her cheek once more, letting my lips linger.
"I had a amazing night, I just don't wanna go back in there to make anything ruined."
"Nothing will be ruined baby, I promise." I tuck her hair strands behind her ear. I turn off the car and get out before opening her side of the door and helping her out. I lock the car door as I hold her hand as we walk into the dark house. I then drop her towards her room before heading to where I was staying. I felt my eyes burning obviously due to my lack of sleep. I ended up falling asleep until I was rudely woken up with a bucket of cold water.
Shraddha's POV:
Varun had dropped me in my room and I made sure no one spotted us otherwise it would've been trouble. I wanted him to stay with me for a bit before someone saw us, but he didn't. He just dropped me by my room and then kissed my cheek and headed to where he was staying.
I let out a yawn obviously due to my lack of sleep. I laid down on my bed, hoping I could get some sleep once more but I couldn't. My mind started flashing memories of last night and my lips curved into a smile. The feeling of being close to Varun the way we were last night gave me butterflies and surely had an effect on me.
I sighed, sitting up in my bed. I looked over to my phone which showed I received no notifications. I grabbed it, unlocking it to call Varun. I rang him about 4 times and he didn't answer. I even sent multiple texts to him but they all went on delivered. I got up putting my phone to charge thinking Varun can't sleep so he has just gone to freshen up.
I went to shower, and I came out dressed in a patiala suit. I looked at myself in the mirror and saw the red marks littered across my neck and some on my chest. Tracing my fingers over them, I felt the delight shivers coursing through my veins. I covered them in concealer and foundation, applying more than one coating to cover it up completely. I glanced over at my phone which again showed no new notifications.
I sighed and went downstairs and decided to make chai for the whole family considering the wedding preparations are in full swing. Soon as I am pouring the chai into each cup getting ready to serve my family, I see one by one started coming down the steps.
"Something smells good in the kitchen." Papa says coming in to grab his medicines.
"It's my famous world class cup of chai!" I smile adding the final cup to the platter and then taking it to the table. I noticed on chair around the table was empty. It was Varun who was missing, if he wasn't in the shower then where was he? I served everyone at the table and then sat down for breakfast but my mind was still stuck on focusing where Varun was.
My phone screen lit up but it wasn't the person who I was expecting. I powered off my phone obviously frustrated and pissed at Varun.
"Ayaan, wheres that guy? What's his name again?" Papa asks obviously a smug tone but I looked over at him.
"Papa, his name is Varun. If you're going to at least be rude about it then I don't know why you even gave him a chance." I excused myself and left the table abruptly. I headed up the stairs to go to that bastard.
I see him asleep in a cot, I decided to wake him up with some love. I filled a bucket with cold water, and headed towards him and dumped all on his gorgeous muscular body. He wakes up with a jolt clearly unaware of what happened but his clothes is soaked due to me.
"Are you insane? I didn't ask for a bath! Is this how you wake someone up?" I glare him and walk away.
"What happened? Why are you sulking?" I hear him jogging behind me.
"I don't want to talk to you!" I turn around and tell him.
"I'm sorry Shraddha." He says wiping his eyes with the sleeves of his shirt.
"I waited for you to call me back, I even called your phone numerous times and left you probably hundreds of messages thinking you'll be coming to see me thinking you can't sleep either. But no!" I crossed my arms.
"I'm sorry babe, I fell asleep! I was tired." He explains.
"Yes of course, you sleep while I get married off to Vikram!" I spit in anger.
"Babe, I was tired. I promise you if I was awake, I'd come to see you but I was tired. My eyes were burning." He shouts explaining as I walk away completely ignoring him. The entire day, Varun has tried to make me talk to him but I ignore him completely. But my heart desperately wanted to have him close to me, to hold my hand, to stroke my hair the way he would. By lunch my anger completely dissolved like the salt in the lunch I was making him.
I finally caught him alone in the storeroom handing down jars to Nikhil. His eyes meet mine as I hold the plate filled with the lunch I made him.
"What are you doing here?" I questioned.
"Dadi's making pickles for Vikram's family. So she's sent us to fetch these jars." Varun says on the ladder. He steps down and speaks to me. "Tell your family, that I'm here to become your groom not a family servant." He says and turns the other way literally sulking. I glance over to Nikhil and he nods leaving both Varun and I alone in the store room.
I attempt to feed him a morsel of what I made for him but he gently pushes my hand away and continues to sulk.
"I don't want to eat." He says and I attempt once more but he pushes my hand away.
"I'm sorry for this morning, I was angry." I apologized and he turns to face me.
"I'm sorry too." He says looking into my eyes. I then feed him a morsel of what I had lovingly made for him. He opens his mouth and chews it.
"The bread is overcooked," I paused as he nods letting a little smile come across my lips. "The soup is bland," I pause once more as he nods yet again but I see a smile slowly forming on that beautiful face of his. "The side dish is average. But I'll cook for you everyday and soon I'll become perfect." I say looking down. He pulls me closer to him by grabbing my hips. He tucks my hair strands behind my ears.
"I don't want perfect, whatever you make I'll have it happily." He says.
"For now, have a slap!" I smile as I playfully smack him leaving us in giggles and smiles as I continue to feed him.
"You would've even tasted my world famous chai this morning! I made it especially for you!" I pout and he pecks my lips.
"I had something better last night." He smirks and I roll my eyes. "How are you feeling by the way?" He asks squeezing my hips.
"Still sore." I say feeling my cheeks heat up.
"It'll get better." He says and I nod as I feed him another morsel. "I hear it that Vikram is coming back in a few hours." He asks chewing.
"Don't remind me. I thought he was gonna be gone for a week." I roll my eyes as I took a morsel and realized that the food I made wasn't too good. Varun's eyes twinkle with mischief as he takes in my expressions as I chew slowly.
"It's absolutely first class." He laughs feeding me another morsel. I roll my eyes as we continue to playfully bicker over the food. Soon Varun was called to help Dadi in filling the pickles in the jars and after that like usual we both meet and talk on the phone later that night.
*Next morning*
Author's POV:
Varun is out jogging to impress Shraddha's father and to see what else he can find about Vikram. He sees Shraddha's father staring at the lake in the distance so he slowly jogs in place behind him.
"Vikram didn't come this morning sir. Why isn't he here?" He asks.
"He doesn't jog to impress me." Shraddha's dad replies.
"I don't jog to impress you either. I am an actor and I need that well fitted body. But I jog for Shraddha's sake." Varun says making her dad look at him. "Maybe I can learn something from Vikram and slowly become a better person for Shraddha."
"Is that why you smoke cigarettes?" Her dad asks.
"The cigarettes are for me. I can become a better person for Shraddha, but I can't fundamentally change myself." Varun says and jogs off into the distance.
Whereas back at home, wedding preparations were being completed within full swing. Shraddha and Tara were on a walk in a nearby local park until she got a text causing her to panic.
"Tara is it okay if we head home right now?" She asks urgently making Tara nod wondering why is her sister anxious. The two walked home, but on the walk home Tara ditched Shraddha to hang out with Sid.
"Shraddha." Vikram called for her.
"Did you need anything?" Shraddha asks.
"Does it always have to be relevant to work?" He pauses but adds. "I'm just kidding. I want to take you out for dinner. We're getting married in less than a week, and I think we should get to know each other. As it is, there are too many people in the house for us to talk freely with each other." Shraddha plastered a fake smile.
"So tonight, I'll see you at 8." Vikram says before walking off leaving Shraddha in tears. She turned around headed to find where Varun was. She saw him on the balcony filling the remainder of the jars.
"Oh wow, Shraddha looks mad." She hears and seeing both Nikhil and Varun's eyes on her. She stormed towards them before picking up one of the jars and smashing it in anger on the ground.
"What the hell are you doing?" Varun shouts at her.
"What the hell are YOU doing?" She shouts back. "Are you here to marry me or attend my wedding with Vikram?" She adds shouting.
"Why? What's wrong?" Varun calmly asks stepping towards her.
"Vikram's parents are coming down here tomorrow! So it means you don't have 2 more days anymore, you only have tonight left! Tomorrow, when my father will ask you why Vikram isn't a suitable groom for me what will you ask him?" She asks waiting for a answer only to see Varun's unable to match her eyes.
"Don't look away from me Varun!" She shouts.
"What should I do? What can I do if Vikram is Mr. Perfect? Beat him? Threaten him? Kill him?" He shouts back.
"Do absolutely nothing! Sit here and finish the remaining jars! Then when you're done, go back to Mumbai and get on with your acting career. That's all you're known to do!" She shouts back with tears filling her eyes. She knows how much he is passionate about acting yet she spit venomous words towards him about his career that he's left just for her. She turns away with tears in her eyes only for Varun to tug on her arm and pull her to face him.
He pulls her into him, as she sobs into his chest. He strokes her hair knowing he could possibly lose her tonight itself. He buries his head into her shoulder as she continues to sob.
"He wants to take me on date!" Her voice cracks as she sobs. "I don't want to go on his stupid date!" She sniffs as he strokes her hair.
"Then don't go baby." He says in a tone that he knows is the way to calm her down. He pulls her even closer as if there was more space between them.
"Do something Varun." She sniffs. She pulls away and stares into the brown eyes she loves that were filled with hurt and tears as she rested her forehead against his. "Do something please." She says lowering her eyes before walking away without seeing the hurt look written across Varun's face.
