Süleyman, My Love (by vintagenights)

i do not care who comes in my way or what challenges I may face, Suleiman is and always will be mine. I'll face my enemies with sword in hand and if need be they won't see the next sunrise. I am Melek sultana formally known as Adélaïde Beaufoy.

" come hurry my dear, if we are to make it to the village we shall need to quicken our pace" said her father as he guided the horse she was sat on.

He was also carrying a large bag full of clothes and fancy fabrics. The plan was to sell as much as possible and hopefully rent out a inn for the night.

" Papa, I'm hungry" said the younger girl, the last time she ate was close to sunrise, now it was almost sunset.

Ever since her mother died last year, her father had been forced to take her alongside himself for his travels. Normally she would stay with her mother and her father would be gone sometimes for months, but he would always return with enough money to last a few months before he had to be gone once more.

They had spent the following few days on a boat, this took them out of their Village in France to a place she didn't know or recognise. Her father sat his things down once they reached a remotely busy area and started the process of setting up his little clothing stall.

" Here, here"! He yelled as he exclaimed that he had fine silk and beautiful dresses fit for a princess. Some young woman had come to see, all fawning over the dresses and fabrics. It wasn't long until her father sold three new dresses and some fabric. Not much but better than the last time in which it took almost a week until he sold one dress.

Last time he had accidentally stumbled upon a town that was pretty well off, obviously they showed little interest in their products since they had better resources. So they were forced to move forward. In the end they had found a small selected village, these people were starstruck after seeing the clothes and brought the lot within a day.

After a few hours, her father packed away the remaining items and decided to find a inn for the night as well as some food. Adélaïde knew her father had saved money just for this reason, he never wanted to spend more than necessary, so always saved some from his previous travels

They walked around for a few hours until a nice older women allowed them to spend the night in her home. She gave them both a warm meal as well as a warm bed to sleep in. She even fed their horse and in the morning fed them once more before offering a warm bath.

After a good nights rest and a morning full of a warm meal, her father gifted the woman one of their dresses as a thank you and they set off. This time they were in a different place. The remaining items were difficult to sell, since the more lavish ones were already taken. So after a few hours Adélaïde's father gave up and they set up a little camp.

She watched as her father lit a warm fire and told her to warm herself. He had taken his bow and arrow which he always carried with him to find something to eat. It was more for safety rather than hunting.

Adélaïde wondered if he would sell meat instead if they couldn't sell the remaining items. As she waited she wished that she could live like her friends in her village, they had a stable home and family. She loved her father truly but she longed for her mother and would often even wish to at least dream about her.

She was always told she had her mothers brown eyes and long wavy hair. From her father she had been gifted her beautiful singing voice as well as knowing the art of sword play as well as the use of a bow and arrow.

She may have been young but her father insisted that she was to learn these skills in case one day she ran into danger, she hadn't quite mastered the skills yet but one day she shall, that day she wouldn't need to travel for months for food and a place to stay for the night. She would have it all.

Burried deep within thought she didn't notice the two sets of eyes watching her, or her father who had dropped his kill to protect her. She didn't notice how he was shoved into the floor as the other man advanced closer. She didn't notice anything until it was too late.

" Adélaïde, Adélaïde's! Run" she heard after a few moments. Her head snapped up and her gaze met her soon to be attackers. Without any hesitation she sprinted.

Her father had always said that if he told her to run she was to run, the last time she had hesitated. He had gotten injured. She would hide until her father defeated them like last time.

But this time wasn't like last time, this time she was outnumbered. As soon as she started running, someone grabbed her arm and forced her back. She struggled against the cold arms but they showed no mercy. The man most have gotten annoyed with her struggling and slapped her. She froze.

Never had she even been yelled at, and this bastard hit her! Without a second of thought, she bit down onto his arm until he screamed.

She saw her father yelling for her from the distance, but two men held him down. It was obvious now that they did not want to kill either of them but to just take her and leave.

So without further hesitation she stopped the struggling and looked at the man who was holding her. He didn't look french nor like the villagers she had seen.

Understanding that he wouldn't understand her language, she pointed to the distance and motioned for him to take her but not to harm her father. She tried her best hoping and praying for the best.

The man, frowned then shouted a order in a foreign language to his companions. They still held onto him but she had a strong feeling that he would be alive.

She heard him screaming once more for her, but she was already taken far away. He couldn't save her even if he tried.

"où m'emmenez-vous"? She asked after a whole day in their small boat, she was surrounded by three men. One was tall and very dirty looking. The other two thine yet cleaner.

The one with longer hair and no facial hair came closer to her. She realised that he was one of the men who were holding down her father.

He spoke in broken french, a slight relief since she might be able to ask how her father was.

He answered her questions as if he could read mind,

He said that she was being taken to Istanbul, why he never said so. As for her father he would live and was taken to a inn by a random person.

That night after the shock had finally settled in, she allowed herself to cry, oh how she prayed for her father to save her.

The next morning after feeding her some warm broth as well as a slice of bread. She ate it in a hurried fashion. This made the men around her laugh. She would have laughed as well but she wasn't in a laughing situation.

A few days later they made her wash herself in surprisingly hot water. She had thought that she would have been given cold water but this was a pleasant surprise.

After her bath, one of the men took out a light grey dress and ordered her to wear it.

When she asked why, the broken french speaking man said that she was to meet an important person, if she didn't wear it they would throw her overboard.

She did as instructed until she reached a grand palace, inside a man with odd looking clothes. communicated with the three men she came with, he had a funny voice she thought as she was watching the exchange. He handed each one a small bag.

After the conversation seemed to end she noticed that her three 'companions' were leaving her. She tried calling out but failed. They had abandoned her after all. She had stupidly assumed that she would be traveling with them.

The man she was left with gave her a one over then guided her to the inside of the palace. He didn't seem dangerous or horrible. Maybe they would set her free she thought as he led her deeper into her own doom

The following week many things happened, but for the sake of keeping a clear mind she thought of one thing at a time.

When the man brought her into a large but well decorated hall, she saw two older men, they were finely dressed. One was much older and the other looked slightly younger. Could they be father and son?

The man who her ex companies left her with forced her into a bow like himself then they rose. She looked afraid now as the men finally noticed her.

She saw the three men talk, by the way they were glancing at her she could tell it was about her.

The one sat on a cushioned chair laughed loudly, he backend her towards him. At first they just held eye contact until he decided to order one of the woman in the room to come forward. They spoke and she left. A few minutes later she returned with another woman. She was dressed in white and blue with brown hair and hazel eyes.

They all spoke together as if she wasn't in the room, then she came towards her and led her outside. Once outside they spoke.

" My name is Juliette, I have been tasked with helping you learn Turkish and the ways of the harem".

Adélaïde gasped in shock, she spoke french! Oh how wonderful she thought as she started to freely talk.

" Why am I here? What is going on "

The woman took her hand and they walked into a small room with two sets of beds, once sat down a more free conversation took place

" I don't know why you are here, you are far to young for our sultan and his son. Even the sultans grandson is far to young for a concubine"

The woman thought for a few minutes, Adélaïde took the time to see the room properly.

The room consisted of two beds with white sheets and blue blankets and pillows to match. There was one small table with draws and two small round chairs she believed. It look like a inn room she thought.

" I do not know why you are here little one. But I will try my best to help you learn everything"

For the following few years she learnt the language and traditions. She did her basic chores and tried her best to get the royal family members approval.

The prince who was called Suleiman had become a great friend of hers. They met while she was leaving from her classes. He had begged her to play with him and his mother not wanting to upset him, ordered her to do so.

From that very day, they played and grew closer. Adélaïde enjoyed this period of her life.

When Suleiman turned nineteen, she joined him to his Sanjak along side his mother and sisters.

It wasn't until he had his first son that she realised her deep love for him, oh how she cried when he chose another woman over her each time.

She vowed that he would be hers, only hers
