Chapter 144

I knew Dumbledore would be arriving with Harry in no time as Neville and I ran out of the common room with our wands fiercely held in our grips.

We left the castle, the sound of shrieks and yells growing to our ears the closer we got to the battle overhead.

With one last look at each other as if to say 'good luck', Neville and I separated and both rushed in different directions to help the others.

Neville joined Luna while I ran toward Ginny who seemed helpless against a huge Death Eater in black robes and a dark mask. We threw jinxes and curses at him, but he was successfully blocking them all.

I knew Remus, Tonks, and Bill were there that night as well. I couldn't be sure, but for moment I thought I just saw Sirius in the distance, fighting alongside a woman I'd never seen before.

But I had to look away quickly as the Death Eater tried to curse me, but the flash of green light missed me by a few inches out of luck.

Aiming at him, I raised my wand angrily and shouted, "STUPEFY!" This time I didn't miss and the spell hit him hard, throwing the Death Eater away.

Ginny smiled at me before saying, "Go help Hermione. I'll go with Ron."

Nodding briskly, I left her side and ran toward toward Hermione, trying to fight off Gibbon. But we both yelped as suddenly a green light from behind us hit him and he fell to the ground, dropping dead.

Looking around, we saw that the Death Eater who was fighting Lupin behind us had tried to send a killing curse at him, but had missed Lupin and hit Gibbon instead, killing him.

Without another word, Hermione and I departed once more, but I came to a halt and screamed as I saw Fenrir Greyback on the ground, attacking someone savagely.

At the sound of my scream, the werewolf's red eyes shot up toward me. He then got up to his feet, blood dripping down his yellow teeth as he approached me slowly and dangerously.

I raised my wand at him to curse him, but in a quick motion he leaped forward and scratched my hand with his deadly nails, throwing my wand away and wounding my hand.

With each step that he took closer to me, I took one backward until I felt my back hit a wall.

"Don't you look like a snack." Greyback smirked, but before I could react, he grabbed a hold of my throat and raised me into the air, smashing me into the wall behind me.

My legs could no longer reach the ground and tears were running down my cheeks. I couldn't scream or even breathe as I tried to fight him off and break free, but it was helpless.

He then opened his mouth to reveal his blood-thirsty sharp teeth. I wanted to scream as he started to lean forward, but his grip on my throat was so firm that I was unable to.

With an angry growl, he neared his face up to mine to bite, but he came to a stop when a hoarse voice behind him yelled, "GET YOUR FILTHY HANDS OFF HER!"

And in a flash of a light, I was let go when the werewolf was thrown a few feet away, looking unconscious as he laid down.

I fell to the ground, placing a hand on my neck in pain as I coughed, too weak to even look up at my savior.

But the next moment, I saw the person kneel down on her knees to level up with me as I sat on the ground, placing a comforting hand on my shoulder. "Are you okay?"

Looking up, I saw the same woman I had seen with Sirius a few minutes ago.

She had long and rather messy dark brown hair with hazel eyes that glanced down at me worriedly. She looked like she was in her thirties, but despite the blood dripping down her nose and her messed up state due to the battle, she still looked extremely beautiful.

I opened my mouth to thank her, but my eyes widened in horror as I saw Greyback raise from the ground from behind her, running forward.

"LOOK OUT!" I shrieked and the woman immediately turned around to raise her wand, but it was too late as Greyback hit her roughly, throwing her across the wall.

She dropped to the floor harshly, her eyes closing as she fell there motionless, blood dripping down her head. The werewolf angrily paced toward her and I screamed.

Greyback then looked over his shoulder and away from the woman, but it wasn't my shriek which had gotten his attention.

I looked back as well, seeing the Death Eaters climbing up the Astronomy Tower and so Greyback followed after them, leaving us.

After I was sure he had gone, I hurried toward the woman anxiously. "Please don't be dead..." I muttered under my breath helplessly.

I sighed in relief when I saw that she had just been knocked off and was breathing lightly. But my attention was then caught when someone yelled my name from behind.

"LEXI! Help me! Quick!" Turning around, I saw Ron in the distance, over Bill's body.

I looked between the woman and Bill, not knowing what I was supposed to do, my heartbeat picking up.

"Quickly!" Ron yelled and so I ran toward him. "Help me get him to the hospital wing."

         "But that woman —"

Although before I could say anything, Ron had already raised his wand to make Bill float in the air. "Hurry! I can't do this alone!"

Hurriedly, I went to pick my wand off the ground where it had fallen and helped Ron carry Bill away with our wands pointed at him, making him float with us carefully, as if suspended in the air by invisible ropes.

On our way, we caught sight of Neville, who was laying on the ground, groaning in pain.

"You okay?" Ron yelled after him urgently as we kept on carrying Bill.

"M'all right," Neville managed to say. "Harry just ran after Malfoy and Snape —"

"Yeah, we know," Ron nodded as we rushed pass Neville.

If Harry was going after them, this meant that Snape had already killed Dumbledore.

I felt an ache in my heart. But despite all those thoughts, as if the Felix Felicis inside me was doing its last job, in a quick motion I pointed my wand at Neville's wand which was on the floor nearby and nonverbally blasted it.

Luckily, a loud bang came from outside, muffling out the sound of my spell without Neville realizing it as he was distracted by his own pain.

I didn't understand what I was doing at that moment, but as I helped Ron carry Bill's unconscious body up the hospital wing, I finally saw the reason behind it.

That wand didn't originally belong to Neville, which couldn't have worked well enough for him. But last year in the Ministry, his wand was supposed to be blasted so he would get his own one. And now he finally could.

Even though Ollivander was taken away, surely there were many other wand makers that could get him a new wand. One that could choose him and truly belong to himself.

As we reached the hospital wing, Madam Pomfrey rushed toward us, helping Bill on one of the beds, trying to heal his deep wounds. But no matter what she did, it seemed hopeless.

As the minutes passed by, everyone else came up and joined us as well. First it was Ginny, Luna, and Hermione, and then McGonagall who supported Neville and helped him toward one of the beds.

This was supposed to happen and it was going exactly as I remembered it, which meant that everything had now fallen into place once again.

At last, it was Lupin and Tonks who joined us, all gathering worriedly around Bill's bed as Madam Pomfrey tried to do everything in her power to heal him.

"Go find Potter," McGonagall said, turning to face Ginny. "Bring him up here."

Ginny nodded and without another word, she rushed out of the ward to look for Harry. McGonagall soon left as well, to make sure no one else was hurt.

As it seemed, no one in that room knew about Dumbledore yet.

I felt guilty as I remembered the woman who had saved me. But I knew — or at least hoped — that McGonagall would find her and bring her up here.

I turned on my heels to go out of the hospital wing, but I stopped in my tracks when a horrifying thought made its way through my head.

So I turned to face the others, asking hesitantly, "Where's — where is Sirius?" They all looked around at each there, no one answering me.
