Tranquil Times

Dear Reader,

Hello there!

In the present day, I'm republishing the oldest drafts of my fanfiction, Maverick's Sinnoh Adventure, as I figured it would be nice to see how far I've grown in the last 5 years as a writer. I wrote this back in 2015, as my first act of rewriting the story from its original upload on Fanfiction.net back in 2013.

That said, these are the initial drafts of the first five chapters of the new book. While the overall structure is the same, expect a few differences between this (the original 2015 Wattpad version), and the new 2017 Fanfiction version, which is also available on Wattpad - now 10 chapters in. These original drafts aren't the best, but they hold a special place in my heart.

Alright then. Let's say we get on with it, shall we? I'll keep all of my old author's notes from here on in. Either way, I hope you enjoy these unedited drafts, and check out the new version of the story.

Thanks!

"Okay, I know this would be a tiresome task, but I need you guys to head off to the lakes so we can get some info and the mysterious lake guardians. Very few people has seen them." Professor Rowan began to explain. They were inside the homey Canalave City Library. The professor called them over to hear of these mysterious creatures of Sinnoh called the "Lake Guardians", their names being Mesprit (The being of emotions), Uxie (The being of knowledge) and Azelf (The being of willpower).

"Lake Guardians? I've heard of them. But if very few people seen it, why do we have find them?" A boy named Maverick asked.

"That's a good question. Well-" The Professor got cut off as a loud boom shook the small library. A few books fell off the shelves. Far away from them, people in Jubilife were scared for their lives. People towards Pastoria City experience a very rough earthquake. Slowly, the sound and the shaking stopped.

"Ungh, i- is everyone... okay? Ah my head..."

"Ow... I'm fine, Professor." Maverick said, returning his Pokémon. His sister Rika and his 3 other friends got up slowly. They all fell, they experienced a minor earthquake. What happened?

"HEY! Look at this!" A boy named Alex called. He was in front of the television, trying to find out what happened. He found a news channel, all of the other channels being interrupted. Everyone gathered around him.

"...Yes... Uh huh- wha! L- lake Valor? Y-yes, I see.... oh, no. Really? Let me inform them... yes, that'll be fine. Hey, are we still on air? Right, Ok. Ahem.... Uh, my name is Mary and I'm with Jubilife TV News. This just in- apparently Lake Valor has forgone a huge explosion. We have a few camera men at the site. This happened just recently and caused a small earthquake throughout the region. Here's some live footage being shown..."

The camera panned to Lake Valor, the huge lake gave off thick black smoke. A few fires were seen throughout the site. Multiple trees were either burned, or scattered off somewhere. What shocked everyone the most was the water being practically evaporated and large piles of seemingly dead Pokémon skewed every which way. The only thing in the lake that stood present was a chamber of some sort in the middle.

"Oh no..."

"There's no way this is natural attack from a Pokémon. Someone must've done this."

"All those Pokémon... dead."

"Why did this have to happen? Who was at the bottom of this? Who would do such a thing...?"

There were multiple questions flinged at once from all over Sinnoh. All of the pain and destruction that happened recently wasn't just a fluke. Something deep, dark and evil was resting in the Sinnoh region, waiting to be unleashed. There was only one answer to this. One team that's partly behind it all. They've been stopped once at the hands of Ash Ketchum and his friends. Legends were attacked, destruction followed. The balance of time and space were thrown into disarray. Palkia and Dialga fought, creating dimensions and time holes while they were at it. Sinnoh was falling apart. In the end, it was thanks to a single underground organization who simply didn't give a damn.

Team Galactic.

Chapter 1: Tranquil Times

________________

The story begins in a small town in the south west - most part of the Sinnoh Region. That town was called Twinleaf Town. It wasn't a real sight to see, just 6 small houses and a pond. A few Pokémon trotted about, enjoying themselves.

Overall the town was quiet. Well... except for one house.

"...Despite the exploration teams best efforts, however, the oddly colored Pokémon failed to appear. The red Gyarados eluded detection even fleeting to the crest fallen team..."

"Mary?"

"Thank you Bill. The search for the red Gyarados continues after 7 years. Hopefully they find him soon. In other news, to all you aspiring Pokémon trainers, it turns out Professor Rowan has returned! We are happy to see that he has came back from his long trip to the Kanto Region. He says tomorrow, all starting Pokémon trainers can receive their starters. A new cycle is starting again. Remember, he gives out Pokémon every two years on June 16th, so go get training! Well, that's all the time we have for today on Jubilife TV Network. See you same time, same place, same channel!" The news reporter happily chimed while giving a wave.

A girl walked up to the television to shut it off. She's a brunette with mid-back length hair, with the exception of a few short strands sticking out towards the upper part of her head, reminiscent of her brothers wild hair. She also had bangs. She was 5 feet, 4 inches tall. She is of normal-light tanned skin tone. And she also had these beautiful brown eyes that seemed to sparkle when necessary. She wore a simple plain blue tee with khaki jean capris and white ankle socks. A single black hair tie lied on her right wrist.

Her name is Rika Anderson.

"So... they still haven't caught that Gyarados yet? Its been seven years already. They need to find it before it causes more havoc in Johto... they did mention something about starter Pokémon though. Watch Mom and Dad not even allow Maverick and I to get one." She sighed with a roll of her soft brown eyes. Her stomach growled. It was 12:00 p.m, and she still hasn't gone downstairs yet. Not that she didn't want to, she just felt so lazy today. She slowly trotted back to her bed, almost jumping on it. Her face hit the pillow and she immediately closed her eyes, trying to catch up on some much needed sleep.

"I spend way to long texting..." She said quietly. She was about to doze off, until...

"Rika Anderson! What're you doing up there? You haven't came downstairs yet, honey." Her mother called. Her stomach growled once more.

'Oh yeah, I'm hungry.'  She sighed, then groans loudly as her tummy growled again.

"I'm so tired, Mommy. Can I just sleep for a bit?" She yelled.

"No, not while your hungry. Come downstairs and eat, I got some sandwiches for you."

She rolled her eyes again. Her hunger wins every time over sleep. She groaned at the thought of getting up after being so comfortable.

"Fine..."

She slowly pushed herself up from her bed, stomach growling in the process.

"Okay, geez, I'll feed you, but you best better leave me alone for a while."

She then got a random burst of speed and quickly shoved herself outside her room and tripped down the stairs, falling flat on her pretty face. Her mother, Kimberly, holding a laundry basket laughed whole heartedly at her daughter.

"Rika, honey, you've got to stop falling face first on the floor when your hungry. Your going to hurt yourself one of these days. You haven't eaten in since lunch yesterday. Why?"

"Because my friend wanted to talk on the phone, mom. I'm too hungry to talk." She got up and moved passed her mother, who stopped her.

"Rika Anderson! You have to put that phone of yours down every once in a while. Ever since you finished school, your sleeping patterns have been out of whack. Watch yourself." She immediately felt bad. It's true, her sleeping habits needed dire corrections.

"Sorry, Mom."

"It's OK sweetie. Happy birthday." She said, walking up the stairs. Rika stopped a bit.

Today was her birthday?

"Wait..." She went into the kitchen to check the calendar. Yes, it was indeed June 15th, her birthday. Her eyes widened and a small smile found its way onto her face. She was so wrapped up in the weeks passing by so slowly that she forgot she had a birthday.

"So, I'm thirteen years old now... I'm old enough to get a Pokémon!"

...............

"Okay, Ash is down to his last Pokémon. So is Paul. If Ash can pull this off, he can make it to the top four!" An announcer on Television excitedly said, making the crowd cheer even louder for the competitor. A 13 year old boy and his 34 year old father, Johnathan watched as the 31st Sinnoh league took place. The boy, Maverick, watched intently as Ash called out his final Pokémon, Infernape. Paul on the other side casted a dark glare to Ash. "Electivire! Standby for battle!" He yelled, throwing his Pokéball. The two Pokémon growled at each other before the trainers launched their first attack.

"Maverick!" Rika called, rushing into the living room. The boy looked away from the television with a quick glance.

"It's about time you got up, sis. Happy birthday!" He said, giving her a high-five, eyes still on the TV. Rika smiled at her brother.

"And Happy birthday to you, Maverick." He waved her off before standing up at Infernape's flame wheel hitting Electivire in the face.

"And Electivire got hit! Can he still fight?"

"Of course we can! Electivire use Thunder Punch!" Paul angrily commanded. Maverick's eyes lit up as if he was a kid in the candy store.

"That was so cool! Right, Dad?" He asked his father. Their Dad nodded.

"Right! This has been the best battles I've seen in the league so far. And it seems like Ash and Paul has some serious beef between them... like they've seen each other and had a fight, almost."

"Yeah, I've seen the Hearthome City tag battles a while back. Ash and Paul were paired up and they did not seem happy. More so Paul then Ash, anyway." The boy replied. He turned his gaze to the television set once more as his idol Ash called out another attack.

"Your watching the league? I thought it ended already...?"

"No, it hasn't ended. It's extended 2 days because of all the preliminary rounds taking up most of the time. It took exactly 9 days just to wade 128 to 64 people. And then from there 1 week to get that to 8. Yesterday they finished the first few real rounds of the league, now we're on the last two."

"I see..." Rika until now, never really paid too much attention to the annual Pokémon league conferences. It never interested her, she hasn't found any appeal to league battles but this changed her mind. Seeing how Ash and Paul talked to each other and the fury spilling out of their bodies, she saw how emotionally attached trainers can be to these battles. She saw their Pokémon pushing themselves to beat the other out of their misery. She saw how determined Infernape was to win this.

'I wonder if my Pokémon could fight like that someday... that is, if I end up getting one tomorrow.'

"Hey Maverick? Can you check the mail for me? Please honey?" The mom, Kimberly asked, walking into the living room. Maverick sighed before finally prying his eyes away from the TV.

"Now? Mom, there's a battle on!"

"Please Maverick, I'm expecting something."

"Fine..." He reluctantly got up and left the room. His sister laughed at her brothers expense.

'Yeah yeah, keep laughing... ya dork.' Maverick thought on the back of his head. It was his birthday today, and he should be happy.

Little did he know however, what awaited him in the distant future.
