40: A traditional man
"I wonder if this is how people always get close: They heal each other's wounds; they repair the broken skin."
~Lauren Oliver
Anna is fast asleep in my arms and though I slept earlier, I've been awake for quite a while. This intimacy has been one of the things I've missed between us and I'm glad that it is finally back. I run my hand lightly through her hair and she softly moans before turning around, her eyes flutter open and her beautiful brown eyes settle on me.
A shy smile comes into her face and she buries her face into my chest, "Why are your eyes on me the first thing I see when waking up?" she demands with a cute groan and covered her face.
I pull the hands away, "Because you're too beautiful to look away," I answer and I feel her shudder against me causing me to chuckle.
"We shouldn't be in bed at this time," she says sitting up and the bedsheets fall from her body so that her whole back is exposed to my eyes and thank God for Sight because I can see and appreciate it.
I trail my hand over her back from her waist up to her neck and then to the other side and I feel her shiver. "Yes, you're right, we shouldn't." I agree and I sit up, I lean in and my lips meet her skin and I place soft kisses there.
"What are you doing?" she moans, turning to glance at me as I pulled away and my hand continues its exploration on her back. I give her a clueless look before leaning in and this time, kissing her shoulder and then up to her neck and I get a moan from her, "No, don't." she protests with a consumed voice.
"As you wish. Just know you're missing out." I pull back and get off the bed, pulling on my trousers and shirt laying on the floor. She gets off the bed and put her clothing back on and I fight the urge to reach for her and take her back to bed.
Last night we had an intimate moment, one we didn't even plan on. After she kissed my lips, I told her that I wanted her badly and I could barely hide it away anymore. I felt her nervousness and watch as her eyes became uncertain and moved from me, but before she could finally run away, I took hold of her hand and told her, she could tell me what was wrong and though she replied with nothing, I knew it wasn't nothing. I asked again and that was when she kissed me and we both found ourselves in bed, sharing a moment that was going to be remembered for a long time.
"I was thinking." I trail off, waiting for her to nod for me to continue and once she does that I continue, "We've talked about your parents in the past and all, but don't you think that maybe they should be involved in the wedding? And I know it might be too late to say this, but you're their daughter and meeting them, I feel is the right things to do and we need their blessing for a happy marriage."
She laughs and turns to give me ridiculous eyes, "I didn't take you for a traditional man, Eli." she points out with an observing eye.
I shake my head, "I would not call myself traditional, but I believe family is very important, they make up for who we are." Her eyes drop sadly from mine and my heart grows weak as a result, "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to make you sad, Anna."
She shakes her head and looks back up and this time the sadness is gone, "No, Eli, you don't have to be sorry. You're right, family is very important. I just haven't seen mine in almost ten years." she replies.
"Do you want them to be important?" I ask and raise my brow curiously.
.
Convincing Anna to let us visit her parents was easier than I thought, we've known each other for close to two years and yet Anna has talked about her family once or twice and that was during our first dates. She told me she left home when she was sixteen and hasn't gone back since then and she also told me the names of her parents, her father, Agada Wilson, owned a farm and her mother, Maria Wilson, was a primary school teacher.
I didn't know them nor did she tell me why she ran away but they sounded like good people and I hoped to someday meet them and that someday is soon because we are flying over to the north where they were almost ten years ago. After we landed at the airport we took a taxi giving him the last address the Wilsons lived in and hoping they still live them.
The driver drops us in front of a somewhat big gate and when we asked him if this was the right place, he shrugged and said it was the address we had given him. I ask Anna if she remembers anything about this place and she shakes her head. I cannot blame her, it's been almost ten years a lot has changed, but I believed someone would be around to point the way. After the driver drives off, Anna without hesitation, pushes the gate and the passage meant for walkthrough opens and she walks in and I follow her, and we walk down toward a medium-sized bungalow at the centre of the compound.
I have never been to the south side of the country and unlike the nation's centre when we live, there is a warm presence here has. It is not completely modernised because anyone with eyes can see but I wouldn't mind coming over here just to have this feeling again.
I take her hand into mine and bring it up to my lips and kiss it. She is taking a huge step in reconnecting with her family after so long and I just feel very proud of her and want her to know I am beside her all the way through.
"Nervous?" I ask.
She nods, adding, "I haven't been here in almost ten years."
"Well, I've got you," I assure and we make our way towards the house.
