In first period, Sam and I have separate classes. She has training with other mermaids, while I have botanical class in the gardens. My powers deal with flora and fauna. I can make plants grow without seeds.

On my way to miss Sims's class, the school bully Jaxson slams me against a locker. The moment my back and head hit the locker, my breath was pulled from my lungs. A metallic clang pierced the air in the crowded hall way. I could feel the gazes of everyone in the hallway landing on Jaxson and I. "Hey geek. I got some homework that I need done, and I need it done by third period."

I-I-I don't want to do y-your h-homework." I sputter. Trying to sound tough is harder than it sounds.

"Your gonna do my homework or else."

"O-or else w-what?" Jaxson draws back his fist. Closing my eyes, I brace myself for the impact. Suddenly, Jaxson isn't there anymore. I look around to see where he has disappeared to. Standing in a cage of fire is Jaxson. While trying to find the source of this magic, a smoke alarm goes off.

A teacher runs to the hallway. She immediately looks at the circle of teenagers surrounding Jaxson, Max, and I. 'Max must have been the source of the cage.'

Five minutes later, all three of us were sitting in detention, staring at a blank chalkboard. I look over at Max. The hood of his black hoodie covering his face. "Hey, thanks Max," I whisper.

He answers me with a small huff. I turn back towards the chalkboard. It's gonna be a LOOOOONG day.
