My family is Catholic,
so my nephew was sent to catechism.
It's lessons on basic Catholic terms,
stories, ideologies, etc.

After the kids know enough,
they are given a ceremony
called "First Communion".
It's the first time they do confession,
and take the "host" which is a waffer cookie
that has religious representation.
(I suggest googling)

I'm not Catholic,
so this chapter isn't about Catholicism,
and I'm not here to defend
or criticize it or any other religion.

Traditional symbols for the First Communion:

- the cross

- a child in prayer

- the Bible

- a bell

- rosery beads

- the host (round waffer cookie)

Even though I'm not a believer,
I thought it in bad taste to hit a cross,
the Bible, or rosery beads.

And the host is just a round
white or off-white circle.

And even though I've made a few piñatas,
I'm still not at the level of making a small child.

Bell it was.

Not that I had much choice,
my mother basically informed me
I was making a bell.

My family pretty quickly let me know
that my bell looked more like

- a penis with 3 testicles

- a spaceship

- cupcake stand

- and R2D2 (Star Wars)

The R2D2 comments though
threw me off until
I saw the images below. ↓

Maybe in the future
I will make an R2D2

Normally I spray/paint the piñatas white,
but we had a can of teal paint laying around,
left over from a Halloween costume mom and I made.

Painting the piñatas first
makes you spend less tissue, glue, and time.

I fell in love with the color
and the modern look of the woven bell,
so I decided to leave
the bottom part of the bell exposed.

.

.

That rhinestone belt
is actually left over from a cake we ordered once.
Luckily, I knew where it was and it fit perfectly.
Using a glue gun, I attached the belt and the "medallion".

The medallion is 2 carboard circles,
ribbon cut/glued in the shape of loops,
and a small doily.

moving the medallion.

This is the first piñata
in which I used a stapler, and OMG
it makes things SO much easier.

I highly recommend using one when possible.
Such a time saver.

I'm planning to buy a stapler that allows me
to get into tighter spots.
