20. Ever after
One year later.
It’s been a year since Daniel I started dating. A lot has happened, so let me brief the year for you:
1) When we went to my house last Christmas, my brothers lectured me for hours for being irresponsible and blah blah blah. But in the end, everything got okay.
2) After that, I celebrated Christmas with my family and had fun. I still missed my parents, Daniel said, to imagine them with me, and it helped the feelings. Kind of.
I know they wouldn’t want me to miss all the fun and family time. Christmas used to be our favorite festival and I want to enjoy it with my family.
3) Caleb and Olivia got married after a month saying they couldn’t wait for the next Christmas to get married. Now they have two-month-old baby Carter.
4) Alice and Tom are still dating. Lillian and I became good friends. She still calls me Mrs. Grinch, but whatever.
5) Owen completed college and lived in my apartment. He also got a dog named Milo, saying he needed one more than a girlfriend.
6) Mini fall in love with Milo but he kept ignoring her and now she stalks him on Owens Instagram.
Now she’ll know how I felt.
7) As for me, I moved with Daniel to NYC. He asked me to move in with him after almost four months of us dating.
Honestly, it was really hard for me to do a long-distance relationship with him. So I said yes to the moment he asked me.
8) This year, we were at his house celebrating Christmas with his and my family. I apologized to his parents for running away from their house when I was a kid. They just laughed it off, saying it’s a funny story to tell their grandchildren.
Speaking of grandchildren, I was sitting in the living room with Daniel’s arms wrapped around me from behind. Lillian riding the tricycle she got as a gift, with Milo running behind her and Mini behind Milo.
Guess we both got the game destiny. To chase boys until they give in.
I watched everyone exchanging gifts, laughing, and happy vibes all around, but I was internally freaking out.
Why? I’ll tell you.
I’ve been feeling sick for the past weeks and it’s been two months since I didn’t get my periods. Wanna guess what might have happened?
Ding ding ding.
You are correct.
I finally took the courage and took a pregnancy test. I used three different brands to make sure I get the right result, and they all were positive.
Daniel and I never talked about kids and weddings. I mean, why we would, it’s been just a year.
“What are you thinking?” Daniel asked. His lips on my ears, sending goosebumps in my body.
I cleared my throat, sitting up straight. “Nothing.”
I didn’t get the chance to tell him. I have no idea how.
“This is for you, Tori.” My grandparents said, giving me a box. “It belonged to your mother.” I opened the box and gasped after seeing a beautiful dress.
“This is your mother’s wedding dress. She always wanted to give it to you.” My grandma said with a sad smile.
I stared at the dress. “It’s beautiful,” I whispered.
“You will need it soon.” Grandpa teased, winking at Daniel. We both were red as a tomato.
“Stop it, grandpa,” I whined, making everyone laugh.
“Okay, it’s my turn now,” Daniel said, getting up and pulling me with him.
“Why do I have to get up?” I scoffed and observe everyone watching us intensely.
I frowned, turning to Daniel. My eyes widened when I saw him on his knee with a small red box in his hand.
“I know it’s been a year only.” He cleared his throat, gazing at me. “But I want to spend the rest of my life with you so why wait.” He gave me his gorgeous smile.
“You should think again,” Caleb said, making me glare at him. Olivia smacked the back of his head. “Ouch! Babe.” He whined, rubbing his head.
“Please ignore him and continue.” She smiled at us, ignoring Caleb.
“So...” Daniel continued. “The night I met you for the first time, I knew you were different. You are smart, funny and... Clumsy you could say.” Everyone chuckles.
“More like a dumba**.” Owen snickered.
Lillian pinched his arm. “AAAA!!! That hurts, evil child!” Owen screamed.
“Excuse me?” Tom narrowed her eyes at Owen. They both started arguing, making my blood boil.
Arg! Why is my family like that!
“Shut up both of you!” Alice shouted, glaring at them. They stopped bickering and sat down quietly. Everyone sighed in irritation.
“As I was saying...” Daniel started getting everyone’s attention. “I went to college thinking that when I’ll come back, I’ll ask you out, but that didn’t happen. Every day I regretted not telling you my feelings, thinking that I lost you but when one year ago I found you again and I knew I can’t let this chance go away.” He mumbled, his eyes boring into mine.
Everyone cooed. He opened the box and ask me the question I always wanted him to ask. He opened the box, and I gasped at the sight of the most beautiful ring I’ve ever seen in my life.
“Victoria Bell Jones. I love you so much and want to spend the rest of my life with you. Will you marry me?” He gulped, looking nervous.
Everyone started shouting in unison. “Say, yes!” And even Mini barked [Say yes before he changes his mind, bit*h!]
I stared at Daniel, the guy I fall in love with. The guy who changed me. The guy I always wanted to marry, on his knee asking me the question I always dreamed about, and the only thing that came out of my mouth was.
“I’m pregnant.” I blurted, then clasped my hands over my mouth.
Everyone halted. There was pin-drop silence until Mini barked. [Shit!] Daniel sat there, gaping at me.
“I’m sorry,” I sobbed. “I know we didn’t plan this and always use protection. I was on pills and it still happened. I’m so sorry Daniel.” Covering my face with my hands, I cried.
I felt someone gripping my arms, pulling my hands down. I kept my head duck. “Are you sure?” Daniel asked in a low voice.
I nodded my head, sobbing. “This is awful-“ I was cut off my Daniel cheerful voice
“Amazing!” He said in enthusiasm.
It is?
I glanced at him and saw him beaming. “Why didn’t you tell me before, Tori?!”
“I-I got scared,” I whispered. He let go of my arms, placing his hands on my cheeks, making me look at him.
“I love you, Tori...” he said making my heart skip a beat, “... And you have no idea how happy I’m right now.”
“You’re not angry?” I frowned.
He chuckled. “Why would I be angry? I’m going to be a dad.” He whispered. “I like the sound of that.” He said, grinning ear to ear.
“Me too.” I smiled.
“You didn’t answer my question.” He asked.
“It’s a one hundred percent yes.” I beamed.
His smile widened and kissed me hard. Everyone cheered and congrats us, for both news.
[Run away while you still can, lover boy.] Mini barked at Daniel.
I narrowed my eyes at her and was about to scold but halt when Daniel answered.
“I’m good.” He answered, wrapping his arm around my waist, pulling me closer.
“You can understand her?” I gawked at him.
“Well... I’ve been living with the two of you for months now. Besides, she’s the one who permitted me to ask you.” He sheepishly smiled.
[You should thank me, twat.] Mini smirked. I stood there, blinking.
I’m not the only weird one here. Ha!
After dinner, we laid on Daniel’s bed. He kept creasing my belly, going on and on about the baby being a girl. How he is going to spoil her, keep her away from boys at which I rolled my eyes.
I was so glad that Daniel and everyone were happy with this. I didn't know why I was freaking out so much.
“We’re going to name her Amy. No Maddie. No...” and he kept going on with unfamiliar names.
“I know what we’ll name her,” I said, making him stop. Mini ears perked at that, and Daniel raised an eyebrow at me.
“I’m going to name her winter.”
[Oh boy!] Mini barked.
