12. Meeting the ex
“Why are we here?” I asked, raising my brow.
Daniel grinned at me and got out of the car. I sat there, looking through the windshield.
The hell we are going to do at a supermarket. He came by my side, opening the passenger door. “We are going to start with the basics.” He extended his hand in front of me. “Come on.”
I placed my hand on his and got out of the car. “Basic? I know how to shop if you can’t tell.” I said, rolling my eyes.
He chuckled. “You need to learn how to have fun.” I was about to say but stopped by him, “and I don’t want to ask your suitors for anything.” He said, dragging me into the shop.
I ducked my head, blushing. Shit! I knew I made a mistake saying that; it wasn’t true at all.
“So...” His eyes twinkled. “Shall we start?” He beamed.
“Fine. What are we even going to do here?” I questioned.
“Not we. You.” I frowned. “You are going to do Christmas shopping while I’ll follow you.”
“And what’s the fun it in.” I raised a brow.
“You’ll see.” He smirked.
We went through the entire store, getting things for Christmas. I never considered shopping as fun, but with Daniel, it was hella fun.
First, we bought some groceries and went to the decoration section. It was filled fill Christmas good; costumes, lights, Santa statues. Daniel kept taking weird things and trying on him. I didn’t say it out loud, but he looked so hot in Santa's clothes.
We bought decorating for Christmas but I was confused why we were getting this many things.
“Why are we buying this stuff again? Your house is already decorated, isn’t it?” I wondered.
“I never said it was for my house.” He replied, smiling.
“Then?”
“Be patient my child and have fun.” He blew sparkle dust at me, making me giggle.
“What the hell, Daniel?!” I laughed, cleaning my face.
“You have a beautiful laugh.” I halted and glanced at him.
Is he? Dare I say, flirting with me?
We stood there gazing at each other, and I was feeling giddy inside. Daniel opened his mouth to say something but was cut off by the cashier.
“If you’re done flirting, it’s your turn to pay.” He said on monotone.
I narrowed my eyes at him. He had to ruin my moment!
We paid and went out to his car. The next stop was to buy a Christmas tree.
*~*~*~*~*
We were at Mr. Henry’s barn. Everyone in town came here to buy Christmas trees. There were so many sizes of trees, I always thought that people go for the biggest one, but that wasn’t the case, they were buying every size.
“Why are they buying small ones when they can get big?” I muttered observing people. Christmas was around the corner, so the barn was filled.
“It’s not about the size,” Daniel looked at me, “my grandfather used to tell me you don’t choose the Christmas tree, it chooses you.” He finished smiling.
“That makes no sense, Daniel.” I flatly said.
He laughed. “I know but look,” he pointed at the people, “see they are looking around for trees but they get attracted to only one.”
“Because they want to buy one...?” I trailed off.
He chuckled and grabbed my shoulders, making me turn, and he stood behind me, his breath fanning my ear.
Geez, we are in public Daniel!
“Just look at those trees and tell me which one you want to buy.” I did as he said it was really hard to concentrate since he was standing so close to me. My back almost touched his chest, and I wanted to close my eyes and leaned to him.
But we are in public so shush.
I observed the trees, and I didn’t know why, but one caught my attention and I pointed at it.
“I want that one,” I announced.
“And why that? Why not the other one?” He questioned.
“I don’t know...” I seriously didn’t know why.
The tree wasn’t big either; it was just a few inches taller than me and there wasn’t anything special about it.
It’s just a tree.
“See, that’s what I was talking about.” He said, his hands falling from my shoulders onto my waist, and I took a sharp inhale.
He leaned closer to my ear, and I gulped. “You could have gotten the big one there, but you didn’t...” He continued saying, but I zoned out. I felt tingling when his thumbs on my waist started moving. His husky voice in my ear made butterflies in my stomach. It was getting difficult for me to breathe.
Out of the blue, a shrilling voice from behind made me jump out of his grip.
“I was waiting for you to come.” I turned around and saw Samantha, Daniel’s ex.
Why everyone keeps ruining my moment?!
“Hi, Sam.” Daniel greeted her.
Sam? He still uses her nickname! I hate this girl.
“I knew I’d find you here, you always enjoy buying Christmas trees.” She smiled. I narrowed my eyes at her.
How did she know Daniel liked to buy trees? Even I didn’t know that!
I never liked this girl. First, she was Daniel’s high school girlfriend. Second, they were each other’s first; they dated for 1 year. Lastly, they were really into each other.
I didn’t know the reason behind their breakup, though.
“Yeah, I do.” He wrapped his arm around me. “I came here to help Tori buy one.”
She finally looked at me. “Oh! Hey, Tori didn’t see you there.” She faked a smile at me.
Of course, you didn’t bit*h.
“Oh, it’s okay.” I plastered a smile on my face, “I’m sure the beautiful trees here must have caught your attention.” I beamed.
Daniel coughed beside me. “I’ll see you around, Sam...” He cleared his throat. “... We need to buy a tree.” He politely smiled at her. Which I didn’t like a bit.
We walked towards the tree I choose and Daniel got himself one too. After that, we went to my house.
*~*~*~*~*
“Why did we buy two trees, my grandparents already had one, you know?” I pointed out.
“I know.”
“Are you going to explain to me?” I insisted.
“No.” He smirked.
I groaned. “Why so mysterious Daniel? You are making me frustrated.”
“You’ll find out tomorrow.” He stopped at my house. “Now, get some rest. We’ve work to do tomorrow.” He informed.
“Fine,” I said, getting out. “But I’d rather sleep than work Daniel.”
“I’ll make it fun for you, don’t worry.” He winked at me and left.
What the hell is going on?
I walked inside my house and saw Owen watching a movie with Mini, peacefully lying on his lap.
“Where’s everyone?” I asked, entering.
“Grandparents are sleeping and Caleb’s out with Olivia.” He replied, patting Mini.
“Someone’s having fun, huh?” I referred to Mini.
“What?” Owen frowned.
“I’m not asking you, Owen.” He watched me like I lost a screw. I ignored him, raising my brow at Mini.
[He’s so much better than you.] She said, smirking at me.
“Why don’t to go with him after the holiday end,” I suggested stepping on the stairs. “I’m sure his frat boys will love you!” I yelled. I smiled to myself when I heard Mini coming behind me.
[I don’t like him at all, he smells like cinnamon and you know how much I hate it.] She grunted, following me to my room.
